Ri3D @ Purdue
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 ม.ค. 2024
"Robot in 3 Days", or Ri3D, is a collegiate robotics challenge where teams build a robot in 72 hours that is compatible with the current FRC competition guidelines. We are a novice Ri3D team based out of Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. Like other Ri3D teams, we strive to provide resources and inspiration to high school FRC teams all across the world.

Although not the ending we were hoping for, we still did our best and arguably mostly succeeded with our limited resources this year. We go over the mechanical aspects of our robot, as well as the challenges and roadblocks that led us here. Thank you to our donors for making this year's Ri3D possible: AndyMark Penn Robotics (FRC 135 & 328) Adambots (FRC 245) Harrison Boiler Robotics (FRC 1747) ...

Great job bringing it together. Solid work!
Purdue is literally one of the GOAT in college robotics comps
Neat build!

What would this be used for?
It is for their robot in the robotics program FRC or FIRST Robotics Competition, moving these green balls and white pipes to different objectives gives you points. you compete against other teams and whoever has the more points wins. I can explain more if you’d like
What coral?

Might be a frc robotics class???????
It's Ri3D, where FRC teams make a Robot in 3 Days for smaller teams to build on.
We are a team "competing" in the Robot in 3 Days challenge, where we attempt to complete a competition ready robot for the FRC season in the 3 days following kickoff so that other teams can use our findings and resources for their own robots. If this interests you, go check out the many other Ri3D teams who have done the same this past weekend! - Daniel
I’m not understanding what this is used for lol

Great way to stay a virgin
Horrible design. Inefficient af hahahha
What team are you from?
Team yo momma. My five year old builds better projects than this wtf??? @@JHolmes-v8g
Although inefficient, we settled upon this design as it was very easy to build and replicate by other teams with minimal required resources, and could be integrated along with an algae intake to reduce complexity. This also helped streamline our design and build process as we were also operating this year with very limited resources. -Daniel
Hey, quick question here. Did you guys check if the top/bottom plates of the cage are magnetic?
Yes, the cage is made out of metal and is magnetic. - Daniel
@PurdueRobotIn3Days thank you
Cool pc case but its a little loud
Idk if you were joking but in case you weren’t it’s a robotics comp for high school students where teams compete against each other, it’s really fun and it has a bunch of backing like Amazon and Lockheed Martin. If you’re in high school or know anyone who is I would highly recommend
@@JHolmes-v8g Amazon and Lockheed Martin, two fantastic sponsors lol. Also sponsored by NASA, Google, Ford, etc historically. This year the season is sponsored primarily by Haas
Hello
Ur whiteboard is low contrast
Pajamas in the lab, what a novel concept.
How do you plan to get the Algae off the reef? Something to knock it off to the floor? Or are you using the same mechanism raised in elevator to engage the algae?
We plan to utilize the coral mechanism to knock the algae off of the reef. We believe that fine motor control over the algae while on the reef is unnecessary if you can just knock it off and then grab it again once it's on the floor. We plan to do this by spinning in place, hopefully pushing the algae off with the rod. -Aaron
@@PurdueRobotIn3Days yep, that would work. If your intake for coral utilizes spinning wheels, you can manipulate the wheels to spin the algae also. Any plan to climb?
Yes, that is roughly how we plan to utilize the wheels. We will be attempting a shallow climb. - Daniel
thats the best thumbnail
Do yall have a CNC?
The ri3d does not own one but we built this robot in the Purdue Bechtel innovation design center which has a lot of stuff including multiple different kinds of CNCs, laser cutters, and a 5-axis water jet. The hooks are 1/8 steel cut on a laser cutter in Bechtel. - Joey
Damn yall getting loads of hate, but for a first year Ri3D team this really isn’t bad, slap a shooter on there and get some good auto and drivers and yall could be comfortably in the 2nd alliance pick range.
Thank you, if u look at our other videos u can see the ground intake and shooter are already on this robot. I also highly recommend you to watch our robot reveal video and robot demos to see the full robot in action. - Joey
Has the robot or climber cad been released anywhere?
Great job team! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much!!! - Joey
These are really cool hooks. Are they the favorite from what you have tested. What would you change about them. Downsides.etc.
These hooks work the best from what we have tested and are quick drop-in replacements for AndyMark climber-in-a-box hook kits. Some changes that I will be fixing in the CAD soon is to add a centering mechanism on the hooks to try to center the robot on the chain. - Joey
Is the orange things belts? Is that what is moving the game peice. If so can you do another video displaying that please would be super helpful.
The orange thing is a belt that allows one motor to drive two smaller rollers, which control the note while it is inside the shooter and pushes it forward into the flywheels when shooting. If you would like more info about our mechanism as well as to see it in action, check out our "Shooter Mechanism Upgrade" video. - Daniel
Climber looks simple and effective ! nice work
holy hell what a beauty
Will the CAD for this robot be posted anywhere?
We do not have a full robot CAD but we will be posting the super sketch along with the CAD for the laser cut parts on our Chief Delphi thread over the next few days. - Joey
Guys i still don’t understand what ried is. What is that weird orange thing
Ri3D or (Robot in 3 days) is a challenge that some groups of mostly colleges and/or mentors build the First FRC challenge in 3 days. This challenge is for high school students to compete but they have 1.5 months to prototype, design, and assemble the robot. This year the challenge is called Crescendo where the team has to score the foam orange rings into a goal that is over 6 feet in the air and at the end of the game they can earn more points by climbing the chain. You can learn more by looking up "frc crescendo" and watching the game video. - Joey

Im so confused. What is it grabbing
a rolled up hot dog
A foam ring that feels kinda of like a stress ball. We have to intake it and shoot it into a goal that is over 6 feet in the air for the FRC 2024 challenge called crescendo. - Joey
Wait what is an amp
The amp station is the squarish cutout lower scoring station on the side of the field that can be seen and described better on the FRC 2024 Game reveal video at 1:32. - Joey
Wait why is it climbing
It is climbing to score points in the FRC 2024 challenge called crescendo. - Joey
Guys whats cad
We do not have CAD files of the full bot but we do have a super sketch that we based everything on and CAD of the parts that were laser cut. We will be posting Cad and more write-ups over the next few days mostly on Chief Delphi. We have just been very busy for the 3 days and now we are starting to recap it all. If you have any more questions u can ask them here, Chief Delphi and the FRC Unofficial discord. - Joey
Cad is an abbreviation for computer aided design and is the way that engineers produce accurate digital designs in environments such as solidworks or fusion360
Yeah, do you have a CAD file?

I'm from Ri3D at PSU. Looks good! I love the use of all brushed motors, since that is most likely what newer teams will use
Thank you, your bot looks amazing as well. We used brushed motors for that reason and we had a lot of them donated from teams all over the midwest. - Joey
Looks good Joey. I keep watching to make sure you don't use any duct tape!
There is some but not to much lol. - Joey
do you have a CAD file? Looks like a great bot!
