This is a great video post. Thank you
I was there during excavations in 1978
I'm shocked to see so many significant finds lacking signs or information. The climate was considerably warmer during the Roman occupation.
Very interesting. I remember a little about the Cups Hotel and the massive hole for the basement floor of what was to become St. Nicholas House.
I sometimes wish I would go back and live like them for a day, then I remember they didn’t live like they did in movies. Then I swiftly reconsider 😭🤣
The Romans were very good Road Builders.
Victorian Era 1837-1901.
I love the overt Colchester pride on display. Great presentation. Keep 'em coming.
Thank you for this, Payrick. It's very interesting and I do think Colchester has an interesting history. I grew up there myself. I do hate the Roman so-called civilisation though. They were exceptionally cruel, enjoying watching people and animals being murdered, like the shitty Spanish with their torture and murder of bulls even now, and, as you say, not even considering babies and young children as "people" and just throwing their bodies into a hole in the ground. I remember reading, years ago, that one Roman , whose slave had given birth to his baby (as a result of rape, no doubt) threw the baby into a fire. They may have been good at making roads, building construction and underfloor heating, etc, but they were not civilised. I heard somewhere also that, while they were in a lot of places, there is very little of their DNA left now. I hope that's true.
Roma = CIVILIZZAZIONE, la grandezza, la potenza, la magnificenza e la GLORIA DI ROMA EST AETERNA, ROMA INVICTA ET LUX MUNDI (SPQR) 💪💯
Fascinating! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 An excellent documentary….thank you 😊👍👍 I grew up in Sudbury and visited Colchester in the 60/70‘s…I‘m glad to see that so much work had been done to preserve its heritage and so much knowledge has been discovered in the meantime. Cap off to all those archeologists, historians and council town planners involved! Congratulations to Colchester on becoming recently a “City“ aswell 😄😊
Very interesting indeed. Thank you Patrick.
fantastic, thank you
Glad you liked it!
Very interesting video, had the weekend in Colchester and been interested in the Roman history. Thanks for this great informative video..
Glad you enjoyed it

Glad to hear you enjoyed it
Super interesting. Will subscribe and order these books. Thank you.
Lol he shoulda told his wife to build your house like a roman ampatheater and I might be able to hear you.
Very interesting, worth my time!
So interesting! So much I didn't know about my old hometown. I find it hard to believe that no-one died in the fire. The paintings were amazing. Thank you for all the research you did and for sharing it with us.
Nicely done. Roman's were good at rebuilding things. But better at destroying them. Lol. I could imagine being there watching the games how far we have come from swords to bats. From arrows to rifles. From shields to tanks. Lol. Seriously we actually thought we were civilized . These guys killed babies for silly reasons. Oh yea we do that still today. But we are civilized. Lol Sorry joking ofcourse. There work has been a world of construction for us. We advanced alot from the Roman's piling and mortaring stone.
any plans to do a video about colchester being camelot?
No plans in that regard at the moment
I think Colchester is Camelot.
Ye had me at the wife quip, about having only 1 tongue but 2 Ears, to listen twice as often as we speak!) Only successfully married Men get it!))) R there any old maps that show the stream that wrapped around the northwest part of lil hill above the circus? Not the main river! Ur Gwen was Roman Icini, He never set foot there. She was 23 with 2 kids already when he came up river 1st time n he was 18? N 2 wives n 4 kids already!)))) He built it for them!)))))))
I'll see if I can find a map Lance showing the stream
Oye! Happy Holidays from the Emerald City, USA. +-3 years after defeat o the Huns in France. Grandson of Magnus Maximus named short term emergency governor o Britain. Look to the lil hill where once had been small hill fort from time of Camuludunum?) He built Inn-famous Villa that becomes Monty Pythons Came-@lot?) We Agree....No One should have to "Push their Pram-@lots!))) Een older remains may yet be found under base of that hill. North by Northwest?) Atta Lad!

Just found you! This is brilliant Patrick. Thank you SO much.
This is great! Thanks so much Patrick. Very nicely described. Do you know where to find the Time Team Special on the Circus? I cant locate it anywhere...
Hi Kevin - try this link, but it looks like it might be a subscription service. www.imdb.com/title/tt0960056/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
@@patrickdenney3244 Many thanks for the response Patrick - that link is just a listing site, so you cant find the actual program there. Seems like its no longer available. If anyone knows where else to look, do let me know. Thanks!
Thank you for the fantastic and informative summary of the research at Roman Colchester. The surgical tools are intriguing. Have they been further analyzed? What evidence is there that they are anything other than Roman? Is there any evidence of Druids or native Britons having that level of medical sophistication? I will share your wonderful video with others on our site about Ancient Rome. Thank you, again.
Hi Bart Glad you enjoyed the presentation and for your kind comments. Obviously this is quite a big subject and I could only provide an overview to whet one's appetite as it were. You could try the following links for some further information Firstly: 'Move over Doctor' link below cat.essex.ac.uk › reports › MAG-report-0010 And also: www.academia.edu/2135694/The_doctor_s_game_new_light_on_the_history_of_ancient_board_games

i live in Colchester and it was very interesting knowing the stories behind some of the old ruins i see around the place! thank you for a lovely video :)
Glad you enjoyed it
Hello Patrick - thank you very much for this, it’s very informative. I didn’t realise how the new layout shows where Roman structures are situated underground? On my last visit to Colchester I went to the usual visible sites but now after viewing this, I will do as you suggested and read up on this so that on my next visit back home (I live in Canada), I will take some dedicated time to visit all of the Roman sites in Colchester. Thanks again!
You are welcome!
Brilliant stuff, thankyou :)
Glad you enjoyed the video
Fascinating, Thankyou :)
Thanks.
So interesting, Thankyou :)
Thanks David
