USAF Combat Systems Officer T-6 Graduation Video
A video from an Undergraduate Combat Systems Officer Training (UCT) T-6 graduation. The theme was "The Dundees" from the show "The Office" - held at Chili's in Pensacola. This is some of the cool shit we did while in Primary.
Our Primary phase of UCT is modeled exactly like the Primary phase of Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT), with a scaled back number of sorties, and you navigate in the back seat.

UCT Class 12-13 T-6 Graduation Video
Naval Air Station Pensacola
9 Jan 12
-UCT is a flight training program with the US Air Force that replaced the Undergraduate Navigator Training in 2009. It stood up and graduated it's first group of "CSOs" in 2011. Aviators in this program can go to many C-130 variants (AC-130, HC-130, EC-130, etc), F-15E, B-1B, B-52H, RC-135, E-8, E-3, any many more aircraft.

What is a Combat Systems Officer? I created this video in 2010 to explain what the "CSO" (pronounced cizzo) career field is. Mind you, some of the video is outdated: we do not go to ASBC anymore. But I hope that this can help for people who are thinking about this career, students in OTS/USAFA/AFROTC who just got this AFSC, or for current CSOs to show their family the stuff they did/are doing w...

    Question for any CSO out on TH-cam: What motivates someone to be CSO over being a pilot? It seems like you'd have to have a passion for aviation and probably thought of being a pilot growing up. But it seems like this path really limits your civilian options when you get out. Why be a CSO over pilot? Is CSO is an easier slot to get? I'm an Army Guard MP officer so I have no dog in this fight, but I just want to understand why someone would get in this career field but not be a pilot.

    • @burmavalley7860
      @burmavalley7860 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pilot is "only" doing the piloting job. CSOs are mission commanders. It is a more strategic job vs. a pilot job, which focus on short-term maneuvers. A CSO can develop impressive organizational and management skills that can be useful in a civilian job.

    • @SuperSetright

      CSO's tend to be pilot recruits who didn't complete pilot training or people who want to fly but don't have the aptitude to be pilots.

    As a CSO can you choose what aircraft you get assigned to? Or is there a ranking process in school? I can't find much on this topic lol I'd love to be a bomber CSO

    • @Natehanibal
      @Natehanibal 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a CSO in training, you put in a dream sheet for the airframes you want. They (The Air Force) choose you an airframe based on your class ranking and the needs of the Air Force. B-52's drop regularly and B-1s are very competitive. If you eventually go through CSO training, be the best you can be to increase your chances of getting the airframe you want. I am currently here in Pcola in training.

    • @jmetz207
      @jmetz207 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Natehanibal Thank you for the information! So are all the fighter frames pretty competitive too? I'm just hoping if I go for CSO to get one of the two frames haha but like you said it's all about performance! Good luck in your training man!

    • @alanhirayama4592
      @alanhirayama4592 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the F-15E, the CSO's cockpit does have basic flight controls such as the stick and throttles, so Capt Cook can theoretically fly the jet. However, her role as a CSO is to operate the weapon systems. aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/23628/f15-e-pilot-incapacitated-can-the-wso-take-over

      Nav is a CSO and yes, they are rated

    • @calebdemarco
      @calebdemarco 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Old glory CSOs are not rated pilots. They do not manipulate the controls and their experience does not translate over to to the civilian world as far as getting a pilot certificate. With a couple rare exceptions of CSO, WSO and NFO's actually having a civilian rating that they obtained outside of the military and having access to the flight controls inside the aircraft, they cannot log flight time which counts towards any FAA requirements.

    • @Unmedicated_Moments
      @Unmedicated_Moments 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Caleb DeMarco WSOs are CSOs. They are rated and get flight pay. Also, the F-15E has controls in the back
