In 2017, Joel began the 2-year soloist graduate programme where he is now following his dreams of developing a new bass instrument; The Swedish Harp Bass. The Swedish Harpe bass The double bass can be more than a rhythmical foundation. It can be a voice, a choir and a symphony of tones - this was Joel’s vision. A vision that is currently developing into the The Swedish Harp Bass; a fusion betwe...

Joel Illerhag - HAUT/Catch/Click Vision I would like to work spatially with my instrument (the double bass) to make collaboration with other artistic forms relevant and hopefully somehow linked through interaction. About the technology I have developed 39 resonance strings to accompany the original four of the double bass. This new instrument I call: The Swedish Harp Bass. These strings will no...

Randi Pontoppidan, Johanna Sulkunen, Lo Ersare, Ania Rybacka, Elina Silova, Joel Illerhag I assembled a CHOIR last Tuesday and my friend and great photographer Andreas Omvik recorded our first meeting. This great band with these amazing singers should soon be recorded! Here is the video from the staircase-session:
also, keep up with what you do. this is great stuff and i hope you make it out here in the interwebs.
was there ever a video made with how this was done?
nice work!!!
intriguing, though I wish I could experience it in person :)

Could you share anymore information on the MIDI controlled electromagnetically prepared sympathetic strings? Schematics or resources? I am interested in making some kind of drone box or adding something like this to my lap steel guitar. Thanks!
I looked at different projects for inspiration. Please send me an email and I will give you some documentation. info@joelillerhag.com
Amazing sound!
i've seen many videos of so called "future musical instruments" but this one here is for sure an instrument of the future
This is so amazing! Can I buy one?! Love your playing!

what the scale use for the harp tuning?
It can be tuned in any scale. I use Gmajor and Gminor in the video
great drone sound
Maybe you could tune the E string to C. Probably with an orchestra B string. But anyway, I love what you are doing. It's so beautiful! I'm watching this video over and over! Best M
Hi Michael, I am glad that you like the instrument and the video. Yes, I have tuned it to C a couple of times. I have some ideas of making my own double bass with 6 strings so that I can play like a violin but at the same time have the deep bass.
GENIUS!!! Awesome player, too!!
BRAVO, sir, BRAVO!!
Far out! In a good way.
Amazing design, sound and great playing too!

Thanks Tapani
