I love this couple so damn much.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Where can we find the full audio?
Splendid! Thank-you.
I worship this man. Heck of a writer. Not a bad sentence in the lot. Ariel is a delight. John Little is a hero for sitting them down before a camera. And you are a good person for having shared it with us.
Mom read Will Durants books when I was a kid. Im 3/4 century today.
I am a Jeet Kune Do Concepts adherent.
Excellent!
Glad you liked it!
Great job, as always, James! Thanks!

they married at 15 and 28. and both died a few days apart in 1981. an extraordinary partnership. i shudder to think of what modern police state America would have done to them today, a long prison sentence, sex offender registration for life for him and a crushing DEI re education victim's institution for her with possible prosecution of her mother. the human condition has improved in some ways over the last hundred years however you would be untruthful to yourselves, dear readers, if you believe you are more free...
Great job, thanks, James!
Thanks for this, I started listening to the audiobooks for the story of civilization a few years ago. Having read and revisited the whole set by now, I've probably consumed more of his writing than I have of any other person. It's an oddly emotional feeling to finally see the man (and woman!) behind the masterpiece
Good example of how screwed up the first m16’s were. Thank you Robert MacNamara
Your editing is top notch, Sir.
To Will and Ariel Durant the best writers I've ever come across 🥃
Explendid!!!!!
They authored an amazing series. I don’t have enough years left me in life, I don’t think, but if I could I would try to finish the entire 11 volume series on the history of civilization. It’s wonderful.
Very underrated work. Thank you very much for clarifying those for us fans, Mr. Bishop! 🫡
Glad it was helpful!
I thought the NVA-VC used green tracers?
Green tracer 7.62x39mm ammo was used in AK-47s that I witnessed in 1967 & '68. I have heard accounts that state the DShK 12.7x108mm also used green tracer (similar to the .50 caliber M2). The possibility exists that the MG in this event used different ammo and thus maybe orange tracer (like US ammo). Another possibility is the narrator just assumed all tracer is orange.
Why do they always use photos or videos in these videos that are NOT from the actual story. For example....There is NO place in the "old" South Vietnam with terraced rice patties! In FACT, there ae very few places in Vietnam that have terraced rice patties! The photo at the beginning of the video might be from China?
This is why bruce didn't open up world wide schools cause he kno this stupidity would happen.
One quote I've seen attributed to Bruce Lee several times that I've wondered about/doubted the authenticity of is the "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks but the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times". To me that sounds like something folks might think sounds Bruce Lee-ish, but to me sounds like it's trying a little too hard to sound "deep", to me it doesn't sound like Bruce Lee. Am I wrong about this one? Is it a verifiable Bruce Lee quote? Regardless, I feel where you're coming from with the disappointment with Shannon & the Lee Estate for having no problem with falsely attributing numerous "words of wisdom" to the Little Dragon. They're clearly trying to sell him as some kind of spiritual self-help guru while at the same time keeping absolutely silent about some of Bruce's all too real human weaknesses (has Shannon not seen the Bob Baker letters or is she just ignoring them until they go away?). I'm a Bruce Lee fan but at some point I realized he was only human after all!
This statement by Bruce Lee seems to be adapted from a latin statement "Timeo hominem unius libri", generally attributed to St. Thomas Aquinas, where it is commonly translated in its entirety as: "I fear the man of one book; I fear the man who knows one book (or subject), and knows it thoroughly." It appears Bruce adapted it to give it a martial arts application. Although it may draw its inspiration from the Aquinas quote, Bruce Lee's version is so significantly adapted that it is still fair to call it a Bruce Lee quote.
Welcome home Sir you are a true hero
Very well done! If you have a second: Do you know this quote: "Stop wasting time in playing a role or a concecpt. Instead learn to actualize yourself, your potential" If yes, do you know if it was actually said by Mr Lee? It was posted on his official Facebook page in 2016.
The quote you mention can be found on page 177 of the book "Bruce Lee: Striking Thoughts". The full quote is this: "Stop wasting time in playing a role or a concept. Instead, learn to ACTUALIZE yourself, your potential. The main thing is to listen. To listen, to understand, to be open, is one and the same." The quote is a paraphrasing of the following: "This is why we are far from realizing the fact that we are playing roles. There are no bombs here, there is no killing, there is no little girl, these are only images. Most of our whole striving in life is pure fantasy. We don't want to become what we are. We want to become a concept, a fantasy, what we should be like. And the main thing is the listening. To listen, to understand, to be open, is one and the same." - Frederick S. Perls, "Gestalt Therapy Verbatim", page 245
@@passionatemindinstitute Thx very much!
Wow. Mr. Bishop was a patriot and a badass. Respect.
AS an American Vietnamese from the South we know the young American soldiers. To me (and all of us)they are just young man, nice and easy to be friends with although some time they are so naive. some of them died there, thank you and welcome home. to us they have a special place in our hearts. GOD bless THEM
I went over in Nov '66, I never heard about this soldier before, however, deeds like his were something to envy for sure!!!! May he live forever, in this countries heart and sole!!!!
Obviously, you need reliable weapons…or you’re dead. I thought that the Army, at the time, failed to emphasize good weapon cleaning.
So I took my wife out of Bellevue and we lived happily ever after…next slide: THE HISTORY OF CIVILIZATION…
The Sergeant should have made sure his recon team had cleaned their weapons prior to the mission, were well lubricated and kept lube with them. Otherwise, great work keeping your team alive.
When Chuck Norris goes to sleep he checks under his bed for Sgt Bishop
Thank you for your bravery sir , welcome home.
Awesome 👌
if the 3rd highest award for bravery is Silver Star . . . what is #2 ? no disrespect, very impressed w this guy's coolness under fire. fancy Medals rarely pinned on enlisted.
Second highest valor award is Navy Cross (Dept of Navy). Distinguished Service Cross (Army). Distinguished Air Cross (USAF). Fourth would be Bronze Star w/ combat ‘V’. V stands for valor. In the USMC for example below the Bronze Star (which is much more common) is Navy Commendation with combat ‘V’ for Officer/SNCO and NAM, Navy Achievement Medal with combat ‘V’ for Sergeant-Private. Hope this helps.
DSC Distinguished Service Cross
Number two is the Distinguished Service Cross; number one is the Medal of Honor.
“Fancy “ medals are indeed pinned on enlisted. The difference is officers get medals easier as they are “ ticket punching”.
the Silver Star pure bravery. if I'm not mistaken the DSC awarded to staff officers, desk jockeys on their way out after 20+ yrs of service. in important, significant roles w dedication & devotion. counter measures involving technology or logistics & procurement, etc. the Silver Star pure bravery
500 rounds of 5.56 in 20 round mags. Outstanding.
help me w the math; 500 divided by 20 = 25 clips. and you're not allowed to call time out while switching clips. He almost melted the gun barrel
Thank you for your service.
A good story, well told. Glad you made it home, hope you are well. Many of us have gotten old.
