I just discovered Brenda today and I just finished listening to the entire Cognizance album and am taken with everything about her performances and talent. Her voice reminds me strongly of another singer whom I've also always admired and who has always flown under the radar - Nikki Fuhrman. She started off in the 70s as a gospel artist and went on to secular music and country but never had much success and disappeared from the recording industry for the most part for the last 20-plus years. She had an engaging songwriting talent and unique tone to her voice that I always found captivating - and Miss Carsey here has an even stronger voice yet and has a much higher register than Nikki and more precise vibrato. I'll be buying this album after I write this. And I don't listen to modern music, so that's saying a lot.

I am conflicted Brenda, first very stunning voice. I am bringing my son of 10 years of age to solitas where you are performing tonight Tues Aug 8th. My son enquired about live music and being over in the Santa Clarita area I put in live shows around here. You came up and we agreed no alcohol marg and tacos. Do you consider yourself universal or strictly im a fckn artist and I do what my expressive talents are? I am fine with both just would you bring your kid to see you? I trust your opinon and no response is nes, if you read this can you sing crystal ship like a 2 minute song by the doors and you will know who requested it as I will say I love you BC my kid needs a mom marry me. LOL
What I do as an artist and what I do as a hired musician for ambience at a restaurant are two completely different things. The cover gigs I play at restaurants are exactly that, not an expression of art but just simply background music and how I pay my bills. ;-) I am more than safe for children to come see and watch and in fact children absolutely love me. The entire set is designed to be inclusive for all. That being said I won’t be playing Crystal Ship as I don’t feel that that song is appropriate for children/all though I do frequently play another Doors song. And in regards to my art, both this song and this music video are completely appropriate and important for all people to hear and experience. My art is all about acknowledgment, contemplation, self improvement, growth, responsibility, and honesty. Art is meant to push boundaries and is meant to offer pause for reflection, feeling, and processing. Not all music is art, not all musicians are artists. I am very grateful that I am able to do both. And I am extremely proud of my talented friends such as the person I worked with to make this incredible video.
