Fly it anyway! ultralight flight.

I decided to get the Ultralight back up in the air with the 11x5.5 prop. I tested this prop earlier and it did ok but not great. I just wanted to fly the ultra light even if it wasn't optimal.
More ultralight prop testing...

This time I'm testing a 11x5.5 propeller to see if it gives the plane the power it needs.
New prop and horizontal stab on pusher 1.

I'm trying a 5x5" prop to see if we can get and more speed with this plane and also testing longer horizontal stabilizers to see if it flies smoother.

That is serious thunder. It's time for the SIM and to wait for the clear blue sky without the blasting sound.
Be careful with those batteries.. had a bad experience myself. Great flying!
@@capnhardway yeah, I got lucky. I'm putting a top on the battery compartment so it don't have to worry about it anymore.
Looks good 👍, always got to be scoping out new locations!
@@keepyourairspeedup thanks! Yeah I'm hoping at least over the winter we can fly here. It's really big and open.
Nice new spot! And the battery flying out that was crazy, good thing you saved it!
@@A.M.-RC ya, I need to make a lid for the battery I think 🤣
Nice, it always helps to have a new location. I'm happy to see. Love you home made planes.
@@capnhardway ya, I'm hoping this spot works out. We won't be able to fly at our current location much longer. Id really like to stay in this hobby! And thank you it's been fun designing and flying my own planes. I need to start putting out designs for others to build.
Thanks for the video, enjoy your new field. Suggestion, it would be informative to include a brief summary of the setup used with your flight models. With this flight, with the side arm launch, are you using a flight controller? Thanks again.
@@bobflyer4346 thanks. I can add some information for sure!
nice save , that required good flying skills
@@kostasp-ef3pu thanks! Yeah I had to think fast to get the plane down safely
NIIIICE 👌
You are lucky with that battery. Velcro tape will help, I think.
@@AVIATOR-by4kk yes I've done Velcro tape before. It's a good idea. I may make a lid for the battery tray. Can't have that battery come loose again!
So nice to fly at new locations. Hopefully there's no KAREN'S around to ruin your flying. Your airplanes will last much longer landing on that soft fluffy grass, instead if that dirt road. Also, the airplane in this video is my favorite one that you've built.
@@gisall8205 I agree. Hopefully we will be able to fly here without issues. And thanks! I love it. I'm really happy with this plane for being the first pusher plane I've built.
That thing is a screamer, 75mph Is pretty dang fast…
@@EJ-74 ya it's definitely fast enough to be fun! 79 is the fastest so far. Whenever we get a break in the weather I'm going to try 4s! See if we can break 80mph
Dang that was crazy 😂 You got super lucky, Glad it happened when it did. Nice flight other than the battery falling out 😂
@@EJ-74 lol ya. Super lucky. I gotta secure the battery for sure lol. Especially doing tricks. That could have ended bad!
Nice flight field and flight. That plane is awesome…
@@EJ-74 thanks! It does pretty good! I think it will be a round a long time!
Man I’ve been trying to figure out how to change the mixing on my transmitter through my IPhone using the Bluetooth toggle the last couple days and I cannot figure it out to save my life lol I’ve watched every video I could find and none of them explain how to change the mixing. I’ve pretty much figured out everything except the mixing which is my only problem… I wish I could just factory reset it to the Aeroscout set up… That worked great on every plane I’ve built. I’ve only had to do very minor manual adjustments. Would be nice to be able to adjust the mixing though so I can build a V tail etc… I need help figuring out the mixing bad, If you could explain where to go in the settings to change the mixing or reset it back to the Aeroscout configuration I’d really appreciate it? I’d actually like to do away with the throttle to elevator mixing in SAFE… My whole problem is the elevator is going down instead of up when I throttle up. I’m dying to maiden my big yellow plane but I can’t do anything till I figure this thing out. It’s really pissing me off and driving me fricn nuts 😂 Cant believe nobody has a video explaining the mixing using the Bluetooth toggle and APP 🤦🏼♂️
@@EJ-74 what controller do you have?
@ DXe Sorry guess I should’ve mentioned that lol
@EJ-74 spectrum dxe?
Me enamore de tu avión y no pude evitar construirlo .. puedes regalar tu WhatsApp para enviarte las fotos
@@josealfredojuliobautista1138 I don't have one but I can do a video on the specs. It's something I made up like all my planes I didn't draw up any plans. But I can take the measurements and do a build video or post on it to give you enough information to build your own. Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoy it.
I built the regular size FT Simple Scout. With an under-cambered wing it will always climb as it goes faster. The problem I had was that I could never get it to trim out while flying it. I was always adjusting the trims. Also, servos just hot glued to the foam core would come loose, ending in DEATH!
@@mikenadler7118 oh no!! Well we had decent luck with ours. It's a good flyer for a beginner in our experience. We also have a xl scout I built a year ago. But I've never flown it. It's just hanging up in the garage. I need to get it in the air some day.
Are the propellors the same profile ?
Different size and pitch.
Looks like a solid flyer, i like the triangle spar support you did for the wing. Hopefully they slow up on building off in the distance. Dont want you to lose your nice flying area.
@@keepyourairspeedup thank you. We've been lucky to fly a year before they started building. But they are building fast. We may be done flying at some point. There's other places but farther away and some of my planes I can't fit in our car. Right now we can walk to this spot and fly. I'm not sure how much longrt we will be flying
Look at that beauty! Nice scale speed, in my opinion. Subscribed for sure! 👍
@@Garrett053 thank you! This is one of my favorite planes I've built. I'm still working on optimizing the motor/prop combo but it's a great plane. Thanks for watching!!
Hola me puedes regalar las medidas. Gracias
@@josealfredojuliobautista1138 sure, it has a 44" wing span. Anything else you need?
excellent work!!
@@kostasp-ef3pu thanks!!
Looks like you need to add a wire about 3 inches above the wheels to keep the landing gear from spreading. Shouldn’t create enough drag to even notice… I’m thinking you’re going to need a bigger motor to cruise at decent air speeds and have enough thrust to pull out of bad situations… That thing is going to be awesome once you get enough power to play around a bit. At least be able to pull off a couple loops 😁
@@EJ-74 definitely. I need to strengthen up the wheels. On this flight the landing gear was already broken so that didn't help. I think I'm going to put the larger tires back on as well. For power I'm going to try to go back to the 12x4 plastic prop again. It was the one that did perfectly when I tried it before. But if it has over heating issues I'm going to have to swap motors again and probably go to 6s.
Well, it flies well, just a big plane... I salute your perseverance.
@@capnhardway yes sir. She's big and heavy! I'll get it though. I really enjoy trying to get it right, it can be frustrating but it's all a learning experience. Thanks for watching!
Once again, love your video’s. Got a suggestion. On your next build, locate the landing gear 2 to 3 inches more forward. WAY up in front of the balance point. The landing wasn’t that bad. If the L/G was positioned more forward, it wouldn’t have nosed over. Love your perseverance brother.
@@gisall8205 I may go a little more forward when I fix this landing gear. Also will try not to land on that part of the road. I'm also going to put the larger foam wheels back on
@@gisall8205 I'm still trying to figure out exactly if I'm nose heavy or not. Or if I'm just needing more air speed. I find I'm pulling back on the stick a bit to make the plane fly level. I don't think I needed to when I had more thrust and airspeed. It is a heavy plane though. About 5.5 pounds.
Never Stop!🎉
NIIICE 👌
What size and kv motor are you using ?
@@williamobrien5689 currently a 2826 1030 KV motor
Nice flying 🤘🏻
@@EJ-74 thanks. The GTV2 is a blast
Really cool….!!😎🦾
@@RoryHollarTURTLERCRACING thanks!
Definitely may need a bigger motor for that beast to cruise at 50% - 60% throttle…
@@EJ-74 I did it with a 12x4" prop same motor and battery without the landing gear. It flew perfectly on 50-60% throttle. I need to buy a couple more and try them again. I tried the same size with carbon fiber and it over heated. But maybe I'll have to try a bigger motor. Or 6s.
Nice flight👍
@@AVIATOR-by4kk thank you!
Looks like it still had plenty of thrust.. Nice flight…
Yep. It does good with the 6x4 but I may go to a 7x4 folding prop.
Just for a little extra power if needed.
Have you tried a folding prop. That plane floats really well.
@@SnoMoJoe1 Ive been meaning to order one. It would work great
Well done in getting the right setting for the plane, nice flying with beautiful sunset in the background
@@AVIATOR-by4kk thank you. It was a fun flight!
Looking good in the sunset.
@@SnoMoJoe1 thanks!
Question. Do you have some kind of Hard Spar in that wing, along with that Foam Shim. Wood or Carbon Fiber.
I have a thin wood wood spar in the wing
That is awesome flying
@@AVIATOR-by4kk thanks! Its a fun plane!
Sometimes it can be nice to have
@@capnhardway this was the first case I realized I may need it. I'll have to give it a try. I haven't messed with reverse thrust at all in my builds.
Put some timber or aeroscout tires, you probably wanna save weight.
@@capnhardway these are as light as I can put on here without being to small.
@@FlyTimeRC yes you want light I get it.
@capnhardway also a lot of real ultralight planes have tiny wheels. So I want to keep the look. I do have 4" foam tires. I may just throw them on and it will probably do better on those bumpy landings
That's a nice wing!.
@@capnhardway thanks!
Belly up, it was a perfect landing in China, lol😂sorry couldn't resist. No real damage right? We can laugh.
@@capnhardway no it's fine. Would have been a good landing but the road is super bumpy.
@@capnhardway luckily I built this plane really good. It's had much tougher "landings" 🤣
Nice inverted pass.
Thanks! This plane does it pretty well!
What a backdrop, Are you in Alaska?
@@capnhardway north Idaho. It is beautiful!
@FlyTimeRC very beautiful.
Home built ? I want to do something similar. What size motor, prop, and weight
@@2435qwerty yes, all of my planes are home made and my own design.
