No Frills No Skills Guitar
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 พ.ค. 2012
Guitar videos without the extras. Just the important stuff. And riffs you can actually play-no virtuosic solos or 9-string sweeps at 340 bpm just to test a distortion pedal. And I'll never ask you to "smash that like button" or even subscribe. I hate that corny nonsense.
My name is Stu, and I'm one of the guitarists for the metal band Arcomplex located in Lexington, Kentucky. I also have a solo black metal project called Saxo Grammaticus. Welcome to the channel.

Ordered a Hello Kitty Guitar PLUS the Hello Kitty Fuzz
I've not given my Rage 158 the acknowledgement it deserves. Thanks for your review
Would be really cool to see the process of the mod done.
B definitely had a more clear and defined tone while still maintaining the same level of “distortion”.
Did you make the pickguard yourself or buy it somewhere? It looks great! The colours, the matching kill switch. It looks straight out of Miami '87. Would love to build a similar one myself.
Only about $300 total for the build. Tons of companies make custom pickguards. I got mine on Etsy!
Cool, thanks! You really nailed the whole thing
Great video! I'm a bit surprised, I have to say.
The riff is exactly like every pop song out there.
did you removed the inlays? or just paited the whole freatboard?
Neither, but I explain it all in the video.
In 2020 bought one new on sale for $350 as my first guitar
Nice guitar.
Keep it up great video my man and not bad on the guitar.
Wow, thats nice
Thanks for the review. Great stuff
It has come to my attention that the trem is a Kahler and not a Floyd. Obviously, I don't use trems much. Hardly ever.
Those guitars are ash but they are not swamp ash.
@nofrillsnoskillsguitar365 did you have to block the tremolo for drop d? Or did you just lvl it out by adjusting the spring plate?
You don't need to do anything like that to tune a guitar to drop D. You just change the tuning at the tuning machine on the headstock. Plenty of vids on how to do it if you're a beginner. Rock on!
@nofrillsnoskillsguitar365 I know how to change to tuning with the tuners, but with the floating tremolo your supposed to have to block it or adjust it so the tremolo is lvl to the body..I'm trying for dadgbe
@@WilliamCampbell-t6x No reason to ever mess with the springs / claw / trem system in general when going from E standard to drop D. Just tune down and play away! You only need to fiddle with the trem system when drastically changing string gauges (like 9s to 11s) and/or drastically changing complete tuning (like E standard to C standard). In 95%+ of all situations, once you have the trem set where you want it, you never touch it again in your life.
@nofrillsnoskillsguitar365 thank you for this info..I just got a js22 and only had fixed bridges or hardtail bridges and ppl are telling me everywhere that it takes adjustments to down tune even to drop c but alot of them are referring to different guitars
@@WilliamCampbell-t6x Unless you have the most sensitive trem system known to mankind (which the $150 JS22 doesn't have...) you'll never need to worry about it until you change string gauges. I've owned tons of trems from $40 Chinese knockoffs up to my $1800 Fender Am Pro II. Only time I have ever adjusted the trem itself was moving from 9s (factory shipped) to 10s. Even then, it was like 2 - 3 minutes. Nothing difficult about it at all.
are you a lefty? im always looking for new lefty guitars to try out
I'm not, my phone just records in reverse like that.
Ta for the overview of this pedal.
I had the same one. I put Seymour Duncan JB and 59 8n it. Full fret level, crown and polish.
DUDE! This was the first pedal my dad got me when I first started playing guitar in 97, I didn't know how to set it up much but .. lol, I ran this into a Peavey Rage 1x12 combo amp my dad had from the 80s. I was into Malmsteen and Def Leppard at the time... a newb trying to get tones with this one lol. DOD had some cool pedals, still do.
That is a B-E-A-utiful looking guitar. Nice Legend of Zelda theme! Loved playing it as a kid back in the early 90s. Awesome review of this guitar dude. These are wayyyy out of my price range unfortunately 😅. Keep on keeping on dude. 👍
Can the tremolo be blocked by tightening it up against the body just like a Strat?
It IS a strat, so sure. Pretty much any normal trem can be easily blocked or decked.
@@nofrillsnoskillsguitar365 thanks for the information gentleman.
Yay finally. A single coil test. Ive been scrolling for some time now
My student who owns the amp exclusively plays a strat, and it sounds good every week!
Thanks for making this video. 🎸 🤘🏼
Buddy good job! Did you drill anything or made a hole in the guitar? Does it require battery? Thanks a lot
Really appreciate your honest opinion !
Great review. Just got my Blackie strat last week. Fantastic neck, great guitar. 👍
US= unsung plant korea factory, theese where not limited !, only the USA made 30th anniversary are signed by dean zelinsky and are limited and numbers out of 100
Cut me some slack on the Cemetery Gates riff. I looked up the tab about 30 seconds before sitting down to film the video, and I am also bad at guitar.
I have the Abasi 6 string set on a 30" baritone, 90-15 tuned down to drop E. It is ridiculously thicc af > th-cam.com/users/shortsH6ChbDSgywg
Gang gang Stu
Love my Eart, great neck, great frets. Haven't tried the steinberger yet. Not sure I need a fifth headless.
La vidéo est à l’envers 🤨
I just bought one - and love it and was playing with Spark 40
Sounds actually fantastic for the price... i think i want one now. Plus the gate? No brainer
Honestly, for such a cheap price... I really struggle to think of anything that tops it! Just a wonderful little pedal!
They were never conceived as travel guitars. The originals back in the 80s had active electronics and EMG pickups and they were used by the likes of David Gilmour, Mike Rutherford, Daryl Stuermer and Edward Van Halen. They were proper, professional instruments, made from carbon and graphite and the later ones had bridges that could transpose the whole guitar equally. These new Gibson ones are based on the Hohner copies from the 80s and require some work before they're bang on. The pickups and trem posts need replaced asap although if you just lock the bridge you can overlook the posts. Ned Steinberger's original prototype bass from, I think, 1978 (he was a bassist and conceived it as a solution for bassists before rolling out the six string version) is currently for sale for somewhere in the region of £81,000 or maybe around ninety thousand of your US dollars.
The neck on mine makes me more acurate somehow.
Were the new tuners exact fit? No new drilling? Great job!!!
Love your musical playing style. Where did you learn?
I was taught by Spencer Funk of the band Wild Carrot for ~10+ years, then mostly learned on my own and from friends. Cheers!
When it's cold, and when it's dark, the freezing moon can obsess you!
And then it is Amorphis, right ?
@@johnrambothemighty My man :)
Men these customization are cool
I would of added that on off switch to the back plate
is it out of box setup or did you change things like intonation
At time of filming it was like 50% out of the box. It came pretty flat on the neck, so monster buzz everywhere. I got rid of most of the buzz quickly, then filmed. After the video, I went and did a full pro setup on it and got it playing like a dream.
@@nofrillsnoskillsguitar365 thank you so much I am also getting one so i was worried
That's an awesome mod man. Great job.
Thanks!!
are those the emg h4/h4a?
I'm fairly positive they are.
Those are either in high demand or the stock is low on purpose so people are forced to buy higher end Strandbergs.
Very much high demand. Tons of people, especially in the metal scene, have been wanting to get into a Strand for years and now finally have the chance.
@@nofrillsnoskillsguitar365 Yeah, now I'm standing in the bandwagon of waiters too
excellent review bro, much appreciated!
Thanks!!
My guess was A was active because it was more distorted and undefined, and that B was the passive because it was way more defined, clear and powerful sounding. I don`t own any Fishman active pickups but will buy one now after hearing you say the active was B...it sounds way better than I thought an active would sound. Thanks for your video.
Did you ever reveal which was which?
Only a 6 min video. Just watch to the end :)
B has the common compressed active pickup sound I guess, could cheaply fix that with EQ/compressor pedal. Thanks for the comparison!!
