I nearly got lost a few times, nearly went down a few times, nearly got stuck once, and stalled it halfway up a steep hill, but the old adage saved my butt several times on this amazing day of riding: When in doubt, throttle out!! . These Manistee National Forest roads are open to all vehicles with a license plate, so all of this riding was 100% legal.

I sold my 2021 Kawasaki KLX300 and bought this bike because I wanted to switch to something that could do longer rides (on primarily rural paved roads) in comfort while still retaining a reasonable amount of off road ability. How has it done that job over the first 2,000 miles? In short...brilliantly!!

This big, heavy bike is surprisingly good on mildly challenging two tracks! But where it really shines is during relatively high speed cruising and exploring on gravel roads. The neutral seating position, great wind protection, and long wheelbase make it such a pleasure to ride long distances on a variety of road types.

The seat that came on my 2023 KLR650 S was just a little bit too hard and uncomfortable, and the distance from the seat to the pegs was just a little bit too tight.
