Using AI To Get Software Recommendations - Prompting Tips
In this video I provide some of my thoughts and tips on how to use AI (specifically large language models) for conducting software evaluations. Whether you're looking for a particular type of technology for your own use or for your use at work, you can use some of the inherent advantages of LLMs over search engines to conduct quite detailed technology searches. I also touch upon the question of how long prompts can be and show some suggestions for how you can formulate detailed prompts providing output formatting instructions to ensure that the outputs from the models adhere to a prescribed format

    Oh sweet, you aware of the 1.01 over 1.02 firmware stuff? 1.01 works with Mike MKB (intentionally spelt wrong) while 1.02 is an attempt to patch against ripping. Worst of all, nobody selling these mention or are even aware which firmware they are so I bought an LG disc drive instead because there's a few sellers that actually firmware flash them to work with the program.

    Are the Deklin Devices Archival Gold discs basically the BD version of UltraLife on CDs, gold coating and all? Also, if normal MABL blurays are so good then why am I having problems with Last Airbender Disc 5? I can't read a specific missing episode and when I finally did, my disc drive decided to straight up fall and it all went down hill from there. I need a new copy so I can make more back.

    Oh my gosh, that reminds me of this HD-DVD of Happy Feet that has a DVD on one side and HD-DVD on the other. Yes a double sided disc that contains two separate versions of the same movie. Pointless-download the Ama... (TH-cam won't allow that) uh... Tuunebotto will download the best 1080p24 (NOT 1080i LIKE BLURAY AND HD-DVD!) at a neat 5+mbps plus E-AC3 from Ama... Dang it, I wish I can mention it. There needs to be a 4K bluray release for Happy Feet.

    Do note that between CDs, DVDs, and Blurays. The CDs are actually read as 700Mib that is Base 2. DVD/Bluray use Base 10-not accounting for the extra 24 bytes in a kibibyte. Your DVDs will have a real world capacity of 4.38 and 7.96 gibibytes respectively. I can;t remember the bluray capacity however. I calculate 48.8GB but I'm sure that's correct.

    Here's a consideration: the data layer itself is inorganic, but a common failure mode of discs is that the plastic layer is scratched so can no longer be read. This can be fixed to some degree with CDs and DVDs because the plastic layer is thick enough to be buffed somewhat to remove light scratches. With a Blu-Ray disc the plastic layer is much thinner and I don't believe scratches can be buffed out of it without compromising the ability of the laser to read it. This isn't a problem for long term cold storage really, but it might be a problem for wanting both long term storage and reasonably frequent usage. The lifetime may then fall to the lifetime of the plastic's resistance to the very light scratches gained from being removed from storage and played. If the sandwiching layer is still polycarb then that's a lifetime limiter in itself that even in the case of DVDs is usually lower than the data layer lifetime.

After watching and trying Arandr I finally understood the logic nehind the built-in feature - Idk why but it is kind of messy if you want to set up a 4kTV (60hz) via HDMI and a FHD (144Hz) monitor via DP simulatneously (but showing the screen on only one of them). I noticed that no one in here addressed the "AZO" dye on CDs and while I'm not an archivist, I do remember blue dye CDs being the "premium" option, if you see an AZO(which is literally just a class of dyes in chemestry) dye'd CD without the gold layer, you can see how written data has a lot more contrast compared to most CD-Rs with an inorganic dye.

    Excellent idea on the TXT repository for personal info on relevant categories. I'll implement this. ChatGPT has customization tabs for desired conversation style & personal info, 1500 characters each. These are supposedly set as default for every new conversation. I have iteratively configured & condensed these tabs by interviewing ChatGPT and having questions asked back. It will infinitely ask for "clarification" though when asking "are any of these instructions unclear? if so, what do you want clarified?" Do you have experience with optimizing this? ChatGPT frequently & blatantly ignores these instructions and jumps to the default response. This is annoying because I'm trying to make it maximally truth-seeking, yet it keeps being agreeable and trying to please me instead of answering the question.

    Doesn't chat GPT remember all of it's outputs, and it can refer back to all previous outputs with each new one?

    • @danielontech
      @danielontech หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, yes, you are absolutely right that ChatGPT specifically does save previous chats. However I still think there are reasons to maintain your own output vault. The first is that the memory that you're referring to is relatively limited and in my experience at least it's quite easy to fill up the memory which not only affects the context retention also begins affecting the coherency of the outputs. The second reason I'd point to is that gathering the outputs in your own system (for business use cases specifically) also makes sense for using those in secondary workflows. Finally, I personally like the idea of working beyond single platforms, so keeping your own copy of prompts and outputs is very useful if you want to work across different LLMs or indeed different access platforms. But of course, your point is correct and everyone has their own way of doing things.

      I don't think ChatGBT has access to all conversations/chats at the same time. Each conversation is independent. I could be wrong but an example would be: I tell LLM about my mother's birthday and come up with gift ideas. In a separate chat, about a year later, I am trying to decide what to buy my mother again and the LLM will not pull from previous chats if the output is not in the current chat. Does that make sense? Thoughts? I am pretty sure I'm correct.

It's kind of ridiculous that AZO is popular yet pretty vague as to what they specifically do to make AZO as good as it is. Difference between layers please. I personally use a ASUS BW-16D1HT mostly picked it because I like to archive and rip my blu-rays and 4k blu-rays and this drive was the best for flashing the firmware to do that. So far this drive has been reliable for me although I haven't yet tried burning blurays or m-discs and have only done DVD's and CD's as I'm realitivleity new with archival on optical media but hoping to make my first M-Disc soon. I got a really good deal on some verbatim ones since my local store was trying to get rid of them on clearance so I was able to pick up a pack for cheaper then the normal blurays. Also me personally I was never a fan of the slim drives they generally feel cheaper then the normal desktop ones Pioneer is a good brand but even slim ones from them have to have some compromises to fit in that size but we'll see how it goes for you. Hoping my ASUS one lasts long.

    The biggest problem with the M-DISC is the lack of drives. I have a whole series of old CD and DVD drives, all my DVD burners can even read and write DVD-RAM. I made sure that they can do this when I bought them. But not a single one can read a BR M-DISC, and I don't know whether they can also read a DVD M-DISC, but it doesn't help because you can't buy a DVD-based M-DISC anymore anyway. Today there are only BR M-DISC available. So I could buy a new burner that can also read and write BR MD-DISC, but that would be my only drive then. What will I do in 30 years when the drive no longer works? With a CD-R I would at least have the opportunity to try out a whole series of old drives. Even DVD-RAM, the number of old drives available would be greater. And even if you don't take my own drives into account here, the same applies to the drives of friends. Some people would still have a drive that can read CD-R and DVD-R. With DVD-RAM the number is already significantly smaller, but with the BD MD-DISC it is vanishingly small. The writable BD was simply introduced far too late, there were already USB sticks available with a capacity of several GB for little money. That's why there aren't enough PCs with BD drives. Consoles are something entirely different, but consoles are not designed to read private data and then copy it over to some PC.

    It seems my BD-R discs are the short-lived LTH type, the worst type; I burned a little over a decade ago, but they still work fine as I recently tested them all except for one disc that I couldn't copy all the data off. I'm considering possibly buying better discs and re-archiving those LTH types, plus the new stuff I need to archive. I really should do this more often than once a decade. A decade before that, my stuff is still on DVD+R discs; maybe I should consider doing something about those, too. To my surprise, all those still work.
