Sept 5 2024 update on delinquent property taxes in Mount Vernon, NY
มุมมอง 2163 หลายเดือนก่อน
In December 2022, the city comptroller reported that $25m in property taxes were in arrears. The city offered "amnesty" on interest/penalties to those who paid their back taxes. It did not work. In August 2024, the comptroller reported that the amount of taxes in arrears has grown to $54m. This video is a brief review of the situation.

    These poor people. In just 4 square miles, we should be able to do better. The different council responses are particularly interesting. CM Browne’s response was direct and actually offered solutions, which as a resident, I appreciate.

    I wonder if a productive middle ground would be amnesty ONLY for the late fees and any related additional penalties. And if that still causes issues, maybe require reasonable explanation for financial inability at the time that those taxes were originally due, and require homeowners to submit the requested information in a timely manner in order to still qualify for the late fee amnesty. Social workers might be useful to help advise any families that continue to struggle to make payments after already being granted such leniency. I feel like some sort of cooperative approach like that would result in the highest odds of the city actually receiving the funding they are needing while reducing the risk of unnecessarily pushing people onto the streets

    • @csmcd
      @csmcd ปีที่แล้ว

      Good thoughts, thanks. Given the issues with the prior comptroller, amnesty for late fees/penalties seems totally fair to me. Actually, I don’t think the current comptroller has any expectation of collecting late fees/penalties and those amounts are not included in the $25m. I think he may be looking to sell the debt Wall Street. The new Financial Empowerment Center should be tasked with helping families get through this.

I felt in my heart that the animal shelter wasn’t priority because i was told the other municipal buildings are priority. Very sad how so many people get fooled by any administration. This is terribly sad. It was not impossible it just seems impossible in Mount Vernon. Another failure of the city, they certainly did this on purpose. How did they not include the community? Sickening. The city doesn't do much and its going to get worse. They probably want to sell the land/lot to a developer.

    • @csmcd
      @csmcd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The community needs to keep the pressure up. The city either commits to fixing the shelter and managing it properly, or allowing a not-for-profit to take over the facility, fix it, and run it on behalf of the city. Without a shelter in the city, the already tenuous welfare of neglected, abused, and discarded animals will almost certainly decline.

    • @Bond.girl.007
      @Bond.girl.007 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@csmcd absolutely agree! The city knows very well and has had enough time to send out RFP's for this. They need to feel the pressure from the community. I adopted my cat from here a few years ago and know just how much this shelter is needed. It is a terrible thing the city is doing.

    Do not do this procedure without conscious sedation! It hurts beyond words. I know - I had over 30 of them done on me over a 13 year period. Don't let them fool you with the "numbing shot". The shot only numbs the skin. the real pain is them drilling in your bone and then sucking out the marrow. Also DEMAND pain meds (Lortab, Vicodin, etc) for afterwards. You'll hurt like hell for about 3 days afterwards. A horrible, barbaric test!!!!!

  • @lin.lilium

  • @Colnagolon
    @Colnagolon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Contrary to what the heartless docs tell you, it hurts like no other. They'll try to tell you they will give you some numbing medicine and all you'll feel is "a little pressure". The numbing medicine is worthless, it only numbs the skin where the big ass bone drilling needle passes -it doesn't numb the bone. The real pain is when they drill into your bone and then suck out the marrow. It feels like your knee is being crushed in a vice. The pain doesn't stop after the procedure done - it begins. You'll hurt like no other for about 3 days afterwards. Two things - 1) DEMAND SEDATION - don't do this thing wide awake. 2) Demand pain meds (Lortab, Norco,etc) for the pain afterwards. If they try the hard sell on you ask them if they ever had done on themselves or would they volunteer one of their children to have it done on them. WATCH OUT FOR YOURSELF!

  • @Colnagolon
    @Colnagolon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another doctor who thinks this procedure is painless. When are they going to learn that patients should, no - MUST, get sedation, preferably conscious sedation. This procedure hurts like no other and the pain lasts 2 - 3 days. Patients should also get pain meds (Lortab, Norco) for the pains afterwards. This is coming from a guy who had around 35 of these things done on me. I did them without any type of pain meds or sedation courtesy the barbaric animals at MD Anderson hospital.

    Do not do this procedure without IV sedation! I had over 30 of them done to me between 1975-1988 without any sedation or pain meds. It is extremely PAINFUL! If they say they will give a numbing shot beforehand, tell them NO!! The shot only numbs the skin where the big@$$ needle goes in. The real pain is them drilling into the bone and then extracting the marrow -this hurts like no other and it makes your knee feel like its getting crushed in a vise. Make then be humane!!!!!

    Just watching this makes me nervous.. :'( my doctor's say its not necessary to fully sedate me (last time I had my biopsy and bone marrow aspiration done in 2003 and 2007 they sedated me..) and they said they're going to use local anesthesia on the site instead.. Been on complete remission for 6 years straight then lab results go cray on me.. Crossing my fingers that this won't hurt as much and the results will be ok..

    Bone Marrow helps us if we have Leukemia. A Leukemia is a blood disease that makes Abnormal production Of White Blood Cells. It need the Blood from the Bone Marrow because it's the location where is blood produced. If there's more WBC than Red blood Cells, that means he/she has a Leukemia. I don't know, there is still no anesthesia for the Bone.

    @isaacpeterson3620 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    My theory is that the pain is so brief it doesn't really warrant analgesics, though if requested they could be provided. Lidocaine is injected generously around the area so you hardly feel much until they actually pull the marrow out. For a few seconds though it can be very painful. I've had 4 or 5 myself.

    As some may have noticed, the needle (Snarecoil by Ranfac Corp) is rather unique, as it has a lever that is switched over. What is the lever doing? Inside the needle is a coiling mechanism that, when the lever is switched, grasps the bone marrow specimen and safely retains it inside the needle. This proprietary device was made to eliminate the need for multiple needle manipulations to dislodge a sample and to secure such an adequate sample that the pathologist may not require repeat procedures.
