The Best Way to Save Time Assembling Sheet Metal Parts - Cutting Corners Episode 7
🔩 Understanding SendCutSend's Insert Hardware and PEM Hardware: The Key to Fast, Efficient Assembly! 🔩
In this episode of Cutting Corners, Jim and Jake jump into the world of insert hardware-specifically PEM hardware, a versatile, time-saving solution for fast assembly in sheet metal projects. If you’re tired of traditional nuts, bolts, or welding, insert hardware offers a better way to achieve clean, strong, and repeatable connections.
Learn more about SendCutSend's insert hardware services:

What You'll Learn:
Types of Insert Hardware: We cover the three main types-nuts, studs, and standoffs-and explain their unique applications in thin materials and high-torque environments.
Why Use PEM Hardware?: Insert hardware is ideal for quick disassembly, repeated use, and thin sheet metal where threading isn't possible. We discuss how this hardware provides a strong mechanical bond without the hassle of welding.
Installation Tips: Learn about the precision involved in installing PEM hardware, and how to avoid common mistakes when designing your parts.
Material Compatibility: We explain which materials are compatible with insert hardware, from aluminum and stainless steel to G90 galvanized steel.
This video offers practical tips and shows you how to integrate PEM hardware into your SendCutSend projects for faster, more reliable assembly. Whether you’re working on custom enclosures, electronics, or other metal fabrication tasks, PEM hardware is a game-changer.
Watch now to learn how insert hardware can simplify your assembly process and improve your project’s durability. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more!

    Here I needed just two brackets to do a test run to start replacing my prototype. After no local metal shop would respond and custom fabricators had no user friendly system, I thankfully found you guys. I’m still in shock because not only is the online system super easy to use and informative - but the pricing is surprisingly affordable - which incentivizes me to order more parts. Then you have incredible customer service as I was immediately shown how to add a simple parallel line to locate on the press bend which actually improved the part. They arrived early and even the packaging is top tier. My mind is blown because I just can’t wait to make all my personal dream projects into reality - with a goal to mass produce. BTW your videos are perfect. Love the outtake intro and candid format! Thank you!!!🙏🏼👊🏼🤙🏼

    What machine do you use to press fit self clinch nuts? I'm currently using a round die and hit it with a hammer. It works okay but I know that's not the correct way to do it. Mc Master carr sells a tool for $500, would you recommend it? Thanks

    • @sendcutsend
      @sendcutsend ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@carlosrios3452 we can’t giveaway all our secrets 😉 The key is consistent even pressure! Hammers are hard to keep square and precise which is needed for any pressed in hardware. Any press (manual or hydraulic) would be a better fit for a diy application. We would recommend it having a pressure gauge to know the pressure you are applying and match it to PEMs recommended pressures.

    I’m surprised to hear you don’t do stainless PEMs in aluminum. My customers almost always spec SS hardware for 5052 and we’ve never had any issues with it (unless it needs to be chromated after). The most underrated PEM has got to be the TPS pilot pins: solid, smooth, stainless shaft with a chamfered end. Basically a dowel pin that actually stays straight in sheet metal. I use them constantly in jigs/fixtures as locators, hard stops, even short axles.

      G90 is not intended for welding. It's a cheap pre-galvanized sheet steel intended for forming. The coating is also not as thick or abrasion resistant as batch processed hot dip galvanizing. The reason for this is because they need to ensure the coating won't crack during the bending process so it's a compromise. Furthermore, any cutouts or holes you add to your pre-galvanized sheet will no longer be galvanized so it kind of defeats the purpose of having it pre-coated. If your intent is to weld then use uncoated steel and send it off for hot dip galvanizing as the final finishing process. You'll end up with a much better and more durable coating.
