This is a really cool video, and a great help to a novice like me… thank you 😊
This looks amazing, what do you recommend using to re fix the boards? Original type Cut nails or screws?
I can see little brass heads of something in some spots?

Appreciate your work ! I’m interested in Mosaic restoration, also a trade desperate for talent !
Thank you
Hello, I need some advice. I live in a home where the boards need some love and care. They are also from the 1800's. I need to sand them as they look tried and not in a good way. I don't want to lose the patina however.. Can I still sand them and will the patina remain if I have sanded them?
Hello, you mentioned that you have to sand the boards, this may not be the case based on my experience. I do hope to film a video covering this very topic when i'm next able to, if you feel your question needs further elaboration then I do offer a virtual consultation
Fantastic job. Thanks for sharing
You're very welcome
The blue paint looked way better than darkened wood. Wood panelling in white, light blue, blue or similar colours looks perfect. Nobody wants a dark brown room, that's why people back in the day used paint and colour.
In this case the original finish of this panelling was clear. The paint was applied incorrectly in the 1970s. However there are many other examples of 17th century panelling with a painted colour scheme. Thank you for watching.
Loving this video series. Was it not possible to buy new pine floor boards or what is the main reason for needing to restore the existing boards?
Hello. Yes it was possible to purchase new pine boards. However it is always best practice to conserve and restore the original boards if you can. Thanks for watching
It’s so beautiful 😻
Thank you Amelie. Im glad you share my passion. Thanks for watching

Many thanks!
Beautiful work. A true master.
Thank you
What are some pathways one could take to enter the realm of fine restorative carpentry? Absolutely fascinating by the way.
Thanks for watching. I would contact various companies and off your services at a reduced rate. Its all about getting you foot in the door.
Oh well.. Back to my porn 🏃♂️🏃♂️
If you can pull up an old floorboard with some 4mm screws, over the original (rusty, grip like you wouldn't believe) flooring nails, then you will be able to lever the board up with a crowbar and a wide metal blade such as a 4" paint scraper, to protect the adjacent board. without screw holes in the face. If this doesn't work, there are more aggressive methods to use, that do their best to protect the face of the floorboard but may help you lift the floorboard
Yes this could work. You just have to be careful not to break out the existing hole. The screw also tend to break free sometimes when you use this method. Thanks for watching
I fitted new boards in my bathroom, and I screwed the boards down. I later decided to get new central heating installed. The so-called heating engineer didn't bother to unscrew the boards, he ripped them out with a crowbar destroying my work. I had to replace all the boards he had damaged. A costly job.
That sucks. Sorry to hear that bud.
It’s amazing how many builders actually trash a house in the course of doing their job. I’ve spent two weeks trying to fix all the damage caused by a bad plasterer. It’s absolutely ridiculous what these cowboys get away with in the U.K. When I lived in NYC it was easy to find good tradespeople because they didn’t want to get sued, so did their job properly. Hooray for a litigious society, lol.
@@8jaime8 How right you are, Trying to find a half-decent tradesman can be very difficult. They talk a good game but they are unable to do the job. I have lost count of the cowboy builders I have had. Not many firms train apprentices now. They do 6 months at a skill centre then call themselves tradesmen.
Yes unfortunately this happens all to often. Thanks for watching
V cool. I have always loved a red door! Thank you.
Thank you
awesome. thanks!
You're welcome thanks for watching
This worked really well for me. Thank you.
Thank you I'm glad this worked out for you.
The tongue and grooves between the boards would surely be an issue??
💯doesn't work with them. Apparently you gotta cut the tongue both sides
There’s no tongue and groove in many Victorian (and older) floorboards. I’ve lived in a half dozen Victorian houses and none of them had tongue and groove. If you do have tongue and groove, then you have to remove the baseboard on top of side where the floor lay finished, and lift from there.
If you're working with tongue and groove boards, you have a couple of options. First, you might attempt to lift the last board laid that's closest to the wall. Alternatively, you could use a multi-tool to cut off the tongue along the entire length of the board you wish to remove. Thanks for watching
Methylated spirits it seems. In the US known as denatured alcohol. 😊
Correct
Just tried this, worked like a charm for me. Thanks 👍🏻
Im glad this was successful
Useful approach. Cheers
Thanks
Thank you for this video. It will be helpful for me for restoring my www.reclaimedflooringco.us/product/genuine-victorian-pine-floorboards/ flooring. I hope it work for this flooring as well?
