Single player, specially for speed runs? Totally allowed. Multiplayer, to gain an unfair advantage? No.

Calling it "cheating" comes from a sense of entitlement by the person throwing the accusation out there. And that's really all I have to say on the matter because it gets a bit more nuanced when it comes to things where there's no real gain or if it's a victimless crime. Also, you beat this game 100% without using these techniques before, sooooo...It's not like your experience is getting diminished because you're doing things in an unintended way.

I love these types of things. It really makes you feel smart when going on a different path than expected. Finding bugs is cool. If you are lucky and report these bugs, the devs (usually indie ones) can make secret areas only accessable by using these janky moves.

I think that as long as it is a single-player game, it's up to the playerbase, and if the game's developers want to patch the skips/change the mechanics or not. Even so, these sorts of skips or skilled tricks can be used in speedruns (version specific if patched) or as a neat party trick to show your friends. Unfortunately, a lot of the discoveries that come to mind for me are finding unintentional softlocks in a spooky ghost puzzle (character runs opposite direction when get too close to the ghost's 3-tile line of sight.) I was pissed when the solution straight up didn't look possible! 😅

If its not intended, then it is cheating. HOWEVER if its a single player game do whatever the hell you want. So what if you sequence break a game, your playing how you want and thats all that matters.

Reminds me of that Knuckles glitch in Sonic: Boom! or whatever the shit ass game was called where you could fly if you were patient enough lol

I think I can name a few games that have other ways of getting items.

Personally I believe that if you have the skills to use harder jankier methods then it's all good
