I kept a Pike in an aquarium for about a year. When I caught it, it was about an inch and a 1/2 long. I was buying neons and tiny fish from the pet store to feed it, then on to goldfish, I was putting a couple of goldfish in twice a week, 1 day. I thought, why don't I make an ecosystem and he'll just live with the fish. I bought twenty-five goldfish, each one bigger than his head.Put them in the tank Thursday night, on Sunday morning the pike was alone in the tank. He literally looked like a pufferfish, completely engorged. His last meal still looking out from his throat, alive. He grew a large flat disk at the end of his lower jaw from slamming into the glass when he would miss a goldfish. He died from damage to his gills, from fins, when eating his meals tail first. He was like a dog, though he would pace back-and-forth in the aquarium against the glass when he saw me enter the room with a bag of goldfish. He definitely could see me and interacted.
