7 days through Death Valley (Impossible Route Documentary)
The Impossible Route: Death Valley is a 7-day EPIC gravel cycling adventure over one of the hardest courses in the world. Two riders, Jeremiah Bishop and The Vegan Cyclist, attempt to ride bicycles along a well-established motorcycle course called “The California Backcountry Discovery Route (CABDR).
Using the Strava Route Builder (www.strava.com/subscribe/impossibleroute ) the riders charted a 760-mile gravel course inspired by the CABDR. Their route starts in Yuma, Arizona, traverses the Mojave Desert and the heart of Death Valley, and finishes in the shadow of the Sierras. This course had never before been attempted on bicycles, Both JB and VC had to carry all their tools, food, and water from start to finish of each stage. Each day has its own unique hurdles to overcome, from cycling through sand to finding water. This film follows that story. This may be one of the most grueling weeks of gravel bicycle riding that has ever been captured on film. This is episode 1, season 2, of a cycling documentary series about finding the hardest multi-surface roads in the world.
Everyone has their own personal "impossible route." It might be climbing a volcano or just finishing a single mile. The Impossible Route documentary series is all about capturing the story and the adventure of cyclists trying to accomplish what might be considered IMPOSSIBLE. This endeavor is not about racing; it’s about finding adventure, pushing the limit, and then going beyond what is thought to be possible.
///FAQs\\\
Q: Did you have full SAG?
A: The rules we set for ourselves stated we could NOT take ANYTHING from the crew DURING the ride. But we can get anything from strangers along the road if they offered or we could buy supplies from a store. Problem is, no stores…ANYWHERE.
Q: Why gravel bikes?
A: To see if it could be done! We each ran our own Canyon Grail for this expedition. I truly believe they were the FASTEST option, but boy was that sand deep! I recommend a motorcycle if you plan to do this route. Kidding, but you could try the Canyon Exceed.
Q: What tires did you run?
A: We ran IRC double cross, 42s in the rear and IRC MTB 2.0 tires in the front.
Q: How did you fuel on the bike?
A: It was EXTREMELY difficult to eat and drink while riding the gravel sections. But we had Flow Formulas in all of our bottles, gels, blocks, and burritos from chef Biju Thomas. We consumed around 4-5k calories each day while on the bike.
Q: What was in the bags?
A: Apidura supplied the bags and we loaded them down with as much water and food as possible. We also carried a spare tire, C02s, tools, and a satellite phone that never actually worked
Q: Where did you sleep?
A: JB and VC slept in a tent every night except two. Two of the nights the whole crew got hotels.
Q: What was the gearing was used?
A: VC ran a 1x 42 -10/50 Sram eagle and JB ran a 1x 34 - 10/34
Q: How hard was this REALLY? Don’t lie dude!
A: Whatever this looks like on film, it was 1,000,000 times harder in real life.
Q: Can we donate?
A: I cant stress enough how much that helps (www.paypal.com/paypalme/vegancyclist)

Climbing Mauna Kea - Impossible Route HAWAII
มุมมอง 35K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Mauna Kea is the world's largest volcano and has the objectively the hardest road climb up to the top. This cycling documentary looks at the gravel road up to the the top, which had never been done before. What makes this route so difficult is the combination of all factors. Distance, elevation gain, elevation peak, gradient, and road surface. With a peak elevation of 14,000 ft, the oxygen is o...
Anyone know the song at 1:30:24? I can't find it anywhere!
VC Adventures rip off
Lol i feel it in my taint after 100 miles… how did you both do that day after day?
you guys brought wrong bikes. mountain bike with lockable suspension or fat bikes would be better
Wuling Pass is in Taiwan, not Thailand. The event is known as Taiwan KOM. It's one of the most scenic climbs in the world.
I remember riding from Kona over the mountain to the windy side of the island and wanted to ride back , but the winds killed my strength. Had to call my brother to come pick me up in the car. haha
Considering that much better choices for bicycles and clothing could have been selected for this adventure, these must have been ignored for the drama that comes with poor gear choices. Better choices; 1.Fat tires bicycles 2.loose wearing clothing 3. More sufficient water carrying capacity.
too much talking i do not want to see your face all the time
51:00, you are asking an existential question, "Who are the two voices in my head?" One is your egoic, lower self mind. The other is your higher Self; the one you always have been and will be. Great job on your channel and following your passion.
Well done you 2 @vegan Your expressions at 1h14 when you did that self talk is exactly what drives you all the time That is the talk about future you I now learn in that Deepak Chopra book called MetaHuman. You and Jeremy and team are the benchmarks in adventure biking. Much love and respect for sharing and inspiring us .. BTW.. the Views and soundtrack..❤
Apsolutly Apsolutly awesome 💯👍
wild seeing ya'll get to stop at cero gordo.. probably one of the most random/unexpected yt cross overs i've ever seen looking forward to more impossible ride videos in the future. great stuff guys thank you
I love it all 😊 awesome 💯👍
This is the kind of route I dream of being able to ride some day... Awesome film!
30:36 Even with the huge wheels and gravel tires you couldn't get traction? The terrain is just like the sand of a beach.
Thank you mate great video. Very inspirational
I used to live on Hawaii, and rode the route, including the wapio valley, to the summit at mauna Kea, and then back to Hilo weekly, it's not that tough. I also used to ride the east side route which is the reverse direction. Again not so tough, get a life, you make more of the ride than it deserves
bishop legs femur looks long and leverage looks always strong!!
would the ride be better with a a coolre vented helmet and different hat wear for the flatter safer roads. or bear head!!
Thank you for such a wonderful inspirational video. Great job! 👏 👏❤️❤😊
Absolutely mind-blowing. 😲
Whatever you think your limit is its actually so far beyond what you think it is... Damn motivated! Great production, great scenery, great riding. Good job guys.
I think you need a shorters crankarm
How does this film only have 1k views in seven months?! This is great. Well done, team. Can’t wait for then next one!
Tell your friends. 🤷🏼♂️
VC Adventures and u can see the originals and more
Is this supposed to be high production? I feel like it’s a miss opportunity here, it’s like the sound quality and video is shot on iPhone 4.
This is reposted, watch the original on the vc adventures channel. Not sure what this channel is about but it certainly isn’t Tyler. Sound and video will be better. I will say that, with the vibe of this kinda thing it won’t always be perfect but it is better in the actual upload
Real nice route and vídeo. 💪💪👏👏👏
Lower gears? Sometimes racers don’t understand. Eagle cassettes small front chain ring. Pride is tough to negotiate with.
Wuling is in taiwan
big sad this is over shadowed by some other content but i'm glad i found it!
Michlob Ultras on me! Keep your complimates coming.
you tried to not lose it when the saltwater came…also doing this clipped in -chapeau. But just curious. why clickpedals and why road pedals? 😳
Jeremiah is a douche
The one guy reminds me of Chandler's insane new roommate Crazy Eddie on Friends, which is probably why he felt like WAY TOO MUCH.
A friend and I hiked down mauna kea not on roads to our houses on the Hamakua Coast using a compass, no trail ...about 10 years ago. It took 13 hours. I lost both of my big toe nails and my pants were ripped up by the lava. Also Ive thought of a bike route from the saddle road turning off downhill on the mauna access road to the mana rd. above the hamakua coast direction. It's dirt road, no jungle (not going all the way to wiapio via mud lane and wiapio is local traffic only no walking or bikes now).. This doesnt include riding down from the top of mauna kea but one could. There are great views with the site where Botanist David Douglas (Douglas Fir named for him) was killed 200 years ago. Something of a cold case. There is a monument, sequoias and douglas firs planted there in his honor at about 6K ft. There are the rustic keanakolu cabins that can be rented thru the state parks, maybe midway, and near the cabins the road is really rough for a bit like 4 wheel drive, high clearance essential. The mana road eventually comes out near wiamea. Air is real thin up there at the top of Mauna Kea. Also vegan. ;) ...
Tyler on acid there at 55:50 was the best part!
My friends and I used to ride Mnt bike down and up Waipio Valley Road often in the 90s. Back into the valley too. Mud Lane was way worse back in the day. We would downhill Mana Road from the Mauna Kea access road. I always wanted to do this route but life got in the way. Another ride was the Mauna Loa access road. The goal there was to do it entirely in the big chain ring. Good times. I've been on the summit of Mauna Kea in 100+ mph winds. It's no joke. Set up water and food stashes along the route to do this without a SAG vehicle. If it wasn't windy the heat would have done you in. I can't believe you allowed your feet and bikes to get soaked with saltwater. All you had to do was start from the high tide mark which is the beach/tree line. The health issues are more about people going from sea level to the summit in less than 2 hours. Your climb was as gradual as it can get 🙂 Congrats on this feat. I can relate to what it was like. I've done numerous extreme hikes and rides on this island. Wish you two were around 30 years ago so I had someone to take this on with.
The fact that you biked up Waipio is absolutely insane lol...what a leg burner that must be! 😭
@@mattyb808 Honestly, if me and my friends could do it any bike rider could. It's a short climb and yes, a leg burner. Riding from Otech to the top of Kaloko via Palisades is way more challenging in my book. Then there's Kaloko to the summit of Hualalai. All fun climbs 🙂
Epic!🤙🤙
congrats!!!
,,,, I moved to Hawaii 25 years ago and, sad I can't enjoy this islands anymore........White people has invaded this lands and their own lifestyle demands completely change this place! All our mts are hard to climb....MOTHER NATURE is so SMART! Great job you guys! But please keep it quiet! We need NO CROWDS here, thank you! Though though climb!!! Congrats!
Wuling Pass is in Taiwan not in Thailand and it's a part of the usual appx. 100km route of Taiwan KOM Challenge.
You guys are amazing!!!
Amazing adventure as usual
Watching these videos is very inspiring. Thanks guys for sharing your experiences with us
Oo. Is Impossible Route getting an independent channel? If so, very cool!
aww yeahhh!!
