I spent $170 on Hobbii Toucan Yarn so you don't have to! 🧶 A Crocheters Honest Review!
มุมมอง 776วันที่ผ่านมา
At the start of the year i bought $170 worth of Hobbii's Toucan yarn when it was first announced, and have now pretty much used it all up. Here is my very honest review of this yarn. I crochet pretty much every single day prepping for markets and running my crochet business so great yarn is important to me. I love watching yarn reviews and hope this information helps you :) Let me know what you...

I got confused when you mentioned your pattern test because I also did that test along with you on Bulbasaur but now I understand. That was awesome to see your adventure at Supanova, it’s a dream of mine to do a convention ( I’m in Brisbane) Loved all your makes and omg I didn’t realise craftonline had the retro velvet, I’ve got to try that. You have such patience to do flowers, I so want to do them but I just can’t do it, I am easily side tracked. Great to have found another Aussie crochet artist
Thanks for your comment! :) Oh have you thought of giving the brisnova a try? They book out quickly thought so best to get in early if you can! Craft online and also craft2u stock the retro velvet! :) Heh yeah the flowers can take a long time (especially assembly) so I usually don’t have a huge amount of them completed before my events 😅
Hey! Stumbled upon this by chance. You mentioned some dolls getting too chunky with chenille - have you ever tried the Ricorumi Nilli Nilli? It's a tiny chenille for a 3mm hook. I'm using it for the first time rn actually and it works up nicely. Oeko Tex 100 and careful frogging no issue so far. Unsure if you can get a hold of it to try it in Australia? Cute Pokémon! :)
Oh thank you for the recommendation! I just did a quick google and there is a few online stores in Aus selling it! Do you remember what price you paid? It’s $4 Aud for 25g/ 60m here, which is a little expensive given the amount of yarn (but that’s probably just the Australian price after conversion). However the colour range is fantastic for dolls! If I see any around I will definitely give it a try! Thanks again for your recommendation! ☺️
@TheCottonFlorist Unfortunately Rico tends to be on the more expensive side i guess :/ I paid 1,69€ in my local yarn shop for 25g/65m. For reference non-sale price for 8/8 cotton friends 50g/75m on hobbii is 2,15€ for me. I would maybe try see if there ever is a sale on the rico if you DO like it and then get a lil stash^^' I will probably be doing that to make some smaller keychain amigurumi in the future
Ah that sounds like a plan! I’ll definitely see if I can get a skein or two to try! I like to give all yarns a try, regardless of price in case I find the ultimate yarn 😆
What did u burn
I burn the back post of the safety eyes so they slightly melt and become flat so they will not be able to come away from the front of the safety eye. Basically preventing the eye from slipping out of the bee :)
Oh well thanks I'll try this cuz mine fell out I'll tag u if u I can to show your work
I find the chunky yarn will sort of put pressure against the eye backs and pop them off eventually. Definitely give it a try and let me know how you go! :)
I didn't like Toucan :c It makes my hands hurt so bad and so fast! I prefer Honey bunny, specially pastel colours, MR with these ones is so easy to make! And my hands feel so good even after hours
Oh I’m sorry to hear toucan hurt your hands, it was a very dry catchy yarn! :( I’ll have to give honey bunny a try! I should give it a try whilst there’s sales on! Thanks for taking the time to comment :) 🌸
Im also in aus! So Thank you for the review! I have been looking at the site for ages but just didnt want to bite the checkout 😅 i have alot been checking out parfait chunky! Im a beginner and spotlight just doesnt have enough for my liking and thats the only craft shop we have unfortunately!
Hi!, and thanks for your comment! ☺️ Spotlight really doesn’t have the range the US have, and it’s such a shame! : I think if the conversion from aud to usd was better the yarn would be better value from Hobbii, but given the horrid exchange rate I don’t think it’s worth it. Definitely give parfait chunky a try! 🌸
@TheCottonFlorist 💕💕 thank you! I will definitely be giving them a try 💕 love you videos! I wish I had the confidence you do to do markets I just don't know if I could! But in my area there isn't anyone that crochet so it just makes me want to do it more! As I love making the little animals! And my kids love them and of course my oldest when he has birthday parties is asking me to make them something 💚
Oh I really hope you will give it a go! It’s really daunting at first but super fun, and after a few markets it will seem like a walk in the park! I watched a ton of market videos to prepare myself before my first event. You got this! 🎉🎉🎀
Now you got me curious about Parfait Chunky and I might try it. I am also in Au and Toucan is my go to. I love the colour selection. I have made a lot of plushie and yes it can get tricky but I love it. It is the best for me. Better than Honey Bunny and the Snuggles one. I have learned a few tricks from Crochet Me Zaddy on how to do the magic circle and how to sew and frog. Have a look at his videos maybe that can help in future if you ever got another order. They are having a massive sale now and I just bought 100 skeins😅 I think am good for next year. But thanks for honest reviews, now I need to place another order with Parfait Chunky because I'm curious. Love your work 😊
Thanks so much for your comment! 🥰 I’m so glad you are liking toucan. I really hope that I just got a bad first batch. I ordered as soon as it was released. It seems very mixed in the reviews on their website so might just be that my batch was horrible :( I had to do the ch2 method for magic rings with toucan! Definitely give parfait chunky another try. I find their quality can be up and down with regards to the consistency of the fluffiness of the yarn on the strand. But always so easy to work with! Hehe always fun to buy yarn when it’s on sale, you will definitely be set for a while! 😆🎉
@@TheCottonFlorist I find that Toucan is stickier (it sticks to itself) and there are definitely tricks to working with it. It's not one I see myself replenishing in my stock. Parfait chunky does slide better and I find it nice to work with but the quality seems spotty. I've had skeins that are fantastic and others that weren't as consistent in thickness. Crochet me Zaddy just came out with 'A Really Good Chenille" yarn and I'd like to try it when they get a restock (the initial release sold out). It might be a really good one for AU creators since it's locally distributed.
I’m hoping to give crochet me zaddys yarn a try once he gets in more stock too. It looks great! Theres nother Aussie crocheter who also has a yarn company called “Scarli”. I really like her yarn too, very comparable to parfait chunky but ever so slightly thicker.
I liked the whale and the frog so cute 😍
Heh Thankyou! Frogs and whales are always a hit! ☺️
😂 That is gold, exactly how I pose after catching a fish.
Ahaha thank you! 😂
thanks for sharing! I think I might go hunt for a DJI Pocket now 🤣🤣
Haha they are so worth it for the inconspicuous recording 😂😂
Great idea!
Thank you! 😊
How does this only have 11 likes?!?! That is incredible!
Awe thank you so much! 🥰
What yarn did you use for the multicolor rose?
That was a novelty acrylic yarn that was stocked as spotlight for a couple of months at the start of the year. I think it was limited as I haven’t seen it since!
@ thank you!
For cotton yarn, how about Bendigo Woollen Mills? they have cotton for a great price. Not sure it is perfect for your purpose but could be worth a try
Oh thanks for the suggestion! I just took a look at their site and they actually have great prices compared to my local yarn store! I will definitely give them a try! :)
@@TheCottonFlorist I knit all my garmets with BWM wool yarn. Love it. Great wearing.
I’d love to give wearables a try so that’s great to know their cotton is nice wearing too!
Hi im tina
Hi Tina :)
Love your set up❤❤❤
Thank you so much! 😊🌸
There so cute
Thank you! :D
Can you post the link to the felt you purchased from Amazon
Hello, I have just updated the video description to add my Amazon Storefront. You will find the felt i purchased there :)
Oh love, the flower tutorial in the beginning that was great. I will definitely be making these for the spring im the US.
Glad you found it helpful :) happy crocheting! 🌸
How?? I crochet all the time and I can’t get that much done in a week you must be pretty talented :0
Heh Thankyou! I’ve been crocheting for 16 years now, so once I’m in the flow of things my crocheting can be quite quick. But I definitely have my very slow unproductive days!
All your creations are so pretty!😊 I like the voice over instead of text as well it’s nice when you’re multitasking
Aw thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 Oh I’m so glad you like the voice overs, they are my fav in videos too! Love being able to multitask 😄
I am on the Central Coast, so not far away from you 🙂 I don't do markets as I would never be able to make enough inventory (at this stage anyway!) Your flowers are absolutely gorgeous 😍 Love the voiceover as well. Jenni
Hi Jenni, thank you for your lovely comment! 😊The central coast is such a beautiful area! It’s really hard to build up inventory, but if you start small you can definitely do it! :D
@@TheCottonFlorist thanks Amanda, it's definitely something to consider ❤😊
Your crochet flowers are beautiful!!!
Aw thank you so much! 😊
Wow I'm surprised the turtle didn't take that long! Where can I find the pattern?
It’s a great quick pattern! This is the “no sew crochet turtle amigurumi plush” pattern on the “The Friendly Red Fox”’s website. :)
@@TheCottonFlorist Ok thanks!
hi there,i make flowers too, am also an aussie, thought i woud let you know my stems are 30cm :-) not sure if that helps you x
Hey! Thanks for your comment! 🥰 30 cm is a great length! My mini bouquets are around 30cm and they are much more popular than my longer stems! (Although I have reduced my regular stems to around 50cm now) :)
Underrated
Hi I just found your channel it's great I am also in Australia hoping to do markets selling crochet
Thank you so much! Wishing you lots of luck when you start selling at markets too! 🌸
They’re all so cutee and well made, I’m surprised that more people didn’t buy them. But hey, hopefully the next time it’ll be better!! Unfortunately it usually depends a lot on your luck with who is there at the moment :,) So good luck next time, you’ll surely be very successful in the future <3 Btw, could you please tell me where is the Pom Pom Purin pattern from? Perhaps if it was made by you, is it going to be on your shop sometime in the future? ^^
Awe thank you so much for your kind words! 🥰 I think a lot of people were feeling the crunch of living expenses this time of year also, it seems quite a few people mentioned spending was down which I totally understand too! PompomPurin pattern is from lovelee.crochet on instagram (and it’s a free pattern!) 😊🎀
Omg you are so talented! I recently started but all I can do is make squares 😭 This is so cute and I need one
Awe Thankyou!! 🥰You should definitely keep at it! If you can make squares you can absolutely do amigurumi, give it a try! 🎉🎉
Is crocheting easy I'd like to learn
I personally found it’s not too difficult to start, although it was a lot to learn in the beginning. It’s all muscle memory now and very relaxing :) give it a go!
Me and my sis have the same yarn and also made a bee!!
Heh smart minds think alike! It’s the best yarn to make big bees! 😊
Cutee i love chrochetibg
Me too! :)
@TheCottonFlorist :)
Where did you get it from?
Hi, all pattern details are in the description :) (This pattern is from Beary_bearnita_ on Instagram)

Awe thankyou! :D
if you had a bulbasaur i would have sold you my soul
I usually bring Bulbasaurs to my markets, but I completely ran out of time to make one for this event!
@@TheCottonFlorist oh yeah i bet they take forever- they look so perfectly fluffy
Can you give a tutorial on the mini bouquets?!
For sure! I will definitely get some tutorials up soon!
Yay!! Love seeing another Aussie crocheter here on TH-cam! Glad your market went well!
Yay Thank you! Hehe we are slowly emerging! :D
Pretty sunflowers 🌻🌻🌻
Thank you! :D
I love how the giant bee came out with the black wings! <3
Awe thank you so much! I think running out of white yarn was a happy accident! 😆 These big bees are all inspired by your giant bee free pattern! 🙌
If it was cheap i would take the pom pom purin 100%
He’s my fav too! 😊
Those are all so cute!
Thank you! 🥹
Lovely video 🤗
Awe thank you so much! 🥰
I have the exact same mouse mat 😂
Heh it’s such a great mouse mat! 😆
