Backflow preventers are garbage plumbing scams.

The splash comes when you turn water off, you didn’t show that at the end of the video.

Are these meant to spray everywhere when turned off? I thought mine was damaged and replaced. But it still sprays water everywhere when I turn off the hose. I hate these things. Also you can drill a hole in the set screw to remove

Okay.....please......what is the purpose of this scam device. If you turn your tap off firmly, how can water back up and when you turn the tap on it flushes that small section of the pipe out and if you have irrigation like we do, it's on a separate supply source so is not in the household water circuit. I was told that local governments passed new code a couple years ago so they could get money from the federal government by telling them they were "helping the environment". I was also told it was a funding scam by local governments and since we don't live on a flood plain or have freezing temperatures, it's essentially useless and if you have cold weather you should have a cut off valve installed inside the house set about 6 inches back and that solves that problem.

That prevent leaks but by plumbing definition - is that really a 'back flow' preventer? It's just a new coupling, right?

My vacuum breaker is defective just like that one. I haven't been able to take it off because the set screw is in the back where I can't get a drill to it. Thank you so so so much for the dremel idea. I'm going to try this.

Hey guys my spigot in my garage came with a backflow preventer on it and every time I use my hose it sprays water all over the drywall in my garage when I release the nozzle. How do I prevent this or remove it altogether? Thanks.

I so glad I saw this before I called a plumber. Hell, I can do this myself. Many thanks for saving me some money. I have all the tool I need to do this one.

Fuck. I wish I would have seen this about 3 hours ago. I ended up pipe wrenching mine off screwing up the threads on the faucet. And it's sweated in. So yup. Gotta replace the whole damn thing now. Grrrrrr. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to have a breakaway set screw in the first place?

Question....Do backflow preventers get locked up after releasing back pressure? Mine sure seem to seize up pretty easily even though they are pretty new. It doesn't look like they can be reset so that water flows out the hose as it should. Thanks for the video.

This is VERY useful information. That being said, the music in this video is awful and too loud and distracting. Please use different music ...or no music at all. Ultimately though, this is EXTREMELY useful information as I NEED to change (or get rid of altogether) my leaky backflow preventer. Thank you!

I'm pretty sure this is an anti-siphon valve. It will KILL your pressure washer. I recommend bypassing if you're in an area where the pipes don't freeze.
