Linda and I have a motion-activated day/night camera on a tree in our backyard. We love to see what it picks up, mostly deer. During a snowstorm this winter, I went out to put deer corn on a flat rock. As I bent over and reached out, I lost my balance and fell down the incline, which led to a cliff. My Apple Watch detected my fall and automatically called 911 and my wife, who then called a neig...

    I mostly agree with all that was said about both the Longwood & Wanamaker Organs by all who answered my caustic comments. Having never heard either in person my comments come from recordings only. Years ago I was back east for only a short time, before the overhaul of the Wanamaker & did catch a noon recital from the eagle. Very unsatisfying mostly because of the high ambient noise level. I think after so many years I'll listen again to my CDs of Thomas Murray & Michael Stairs on the Longwood. My one time visit to Longwood was a miss also since the organ was not being played that day & the hall was locked. Couldn't see much through the windows either.

    Terrible sound quality. The cell phone was inadequate for recording this instrument The Organ is much to big for the room. The room is very dead with very little reverb. I have several CDs of this organ, and even with professional mikes & recorders the organ lacks bloom because of the too small dead room.

    • @Salmagundiii
      @Salmagundiii 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a strange paradox of the two organs where he has appointments. Yes, Longwood is too small a space, but Wanamaker too big a space. That being said I've been to several recitals at Longwood. Although the room is almost dead without reverb, it's unusual to get to hear an organ of this size so intimately. You can hear nuances of pipe sounds you couldn't possibly hear in a place like National Cathedral, St. John the Divine, etc. And certainly not on the Wanamaker. I'd *much* rather go to a concert on this organ than mushy sounding Wanamaker. But yeah, it's a shame Dupont, with all his money, didn't make the ceiling of the concert room twice as high and made one division of the organ exposed in a pipe work case. That would have made a tremendous difference in the effect it has.

    • @charlesschumacher334
      @charlesschumacher334 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Salmagundiii I totally agree with your comments regarding Longwood & Wanamaker. I find Conte's recordings on the Wanamaker not that satisfying. I find mike placement has much to do with a recordings success.

    • @jakedarmstadter6943
      @jakedarmstadter6943 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Salmagundiii I also think that the organ is in a way small room and he said it’s not meant to be heard in the room but from out in the gardens. And also usually at Wanamaker’s he doesn’t really play it where it would sound mushy. Yes sometimes it does because it’s such a big room but I think the organ fills the space really well.

    • @Wanamaker1946
      @Wanamaker1946 ปีที่แล้ว

      …I think you mean tracker action organs which are the rage now. I would agree with you if you were so harsh. Churches are losing favor for way more reasons than the poor old Organist. We don’t time today to set aside for church, and we do attend, it’s for continuity and a stayed contemplation, and the new ideas and ways aren’t keeping that promise I’m afraid. So people stay away. As far as I know Peter Contre is engaged at Saint Clement Church, on Cherry St. why don’t you attend there? I so miss not living in Philadelphia anymore. I make the effort to attend church, but avoid the socializing. I pay my dues and slip away. Saint Clements is sublime though, and you might take part and worship there.
