Simply brilliant! Normally Hollywood is the one that gets the last say! Now the tables has turn. It is true that the Germans lost the war but the Germans has won many battles but this is first time I have see a film where Germans won a battle. It seems all the people who make films are cut from the same Hollywood cloth cut, excellent film

If a destroyer caught a U-boat that close on the surface the U-boat was doomed. It was incredibly slow diving.

The British commander saying "What kind of navy sends a crew of children out" is kind of ironic since the British employed boy semen (those under 18) during World War 2 and in fact 134 were killed when U-47 sunk HMS Royal Oak in Scapa Flow.

Fun scene, but I'm a devil of nitpicking. The G7 torps had gyro guidance. They could've set the torpedo to turn 90 degrees as soon as it left the tube. I get the tension building though. I'm not the first commenter to point this out but the british xo would have felt ill and puked at the thought of allowing an abandoned uboat bow to point at her broadside.

I think they were going for parallels to the Capt Ahab Moby Dick story ,Capt Swinburne becomes obsessed with that damn U Boat and forgets the basics , later in this episode he follows the sub down "Moby Dick style - with the whale" his war leaving him a broken man. Clever story writing ,probably far from accurate in procedure but really glad they made this great series for us. Ray played it brilliantly as the Royal Navy destroyer Captain , a sad loss.
