Titan Tornado II SS takeoff with E-Props
Listen to the Titan Tornado take off with the new E-Props propeller. Since installing it I've noticed a higher climb rate. People on the ground report the noise level as being quieter. Inside the cockpit the volume sounds the same to me. A cool thing about flying an experimental aircraft is that you can use different propellers, lights, etc.

Titan Tornado II SS with a new E-Prop! First flight!
มุมมอง 1526 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Titan Tornado II SS was down again for gearbox problems, so I ordered a new E-Prop, with the hopes of better performance and less wear and tear on the Rotax 912ULS gearbox. A friend of mine runs an E-Prop on his trike, and has always raved about its performance, so I gave it a try. I wasn't disappointed. I purchased the prop from U.S. distributor Larry Mednick, and the factory instructions ...
Another Rotax 912ULS gearbox repair!
มุมมอง 2027 หลายเดือนก่อน
After only 60 hours of runtime since the previous maintenance on the Rotax 912 ULS gearbox, it developed an issue. So off to the repair shop it goes again! Flying is fun, but as an owner of an experimental aircraft, it can be expensive. Hopefully the repair shop will be kind to me. At least I'm well practiced at removing Rotax 912ULS gearboxes now, but I'd rather be flying.

Gearbox removed from Rotax 912 ULS for its 1,000 hour inspection. I like the Rotax 912 engine. Unfortunately we have a lack of Rotax Certified repair centers around the country. The gearbox has been shipped to Lockwood Aviation in Sebri...

    That's actually very interesting it. One of the biggest Hang-Ups I've had in considering buying a tornado was that two pilots I've talked to who own one have said that it is incredibly loud inside the cockpit. If a simple prop swap is enough to get rid of that negative factor, this plane becomes a lot more appealing.

    Hi Matt. very nice channel. I really can imagine how good of visibility you should have in this plane which is due to having the engine in the back and of course the high wing being behind the pilot. My questions though is whether having the thrust-line above the CG has any noticeable effect on pitch once you suddenly go full power for example in a go around situation? or in case the engine suddenly quits in cruise. does the pitch change dramatically? do you see a benefit of lowering the thrust line more inline with CG, like the streak shadow for example? I am constantly thinking of designing airplanes (mental gym :) but haven't flown these ultralights to have a feeling for the engine placement.

    • @thisoldpilot2151
      @thisoldpilot2151 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, the high thrust line does make pitch changes if power is rapidly applied or reduced. You have to be aware and prepared for it. Practice and training are key here. Lowering the thrust line on this particular aircraft would be difficult because of the clearance from the prop to the boom tube.

    Nice to see someone who actually knows how to do wheel landings... especially apparent on 3rd landing. Often I see pilots trying to achieve a wheel landing without quickly popping the stick forward to force the aircraft to stay on the ground...which may work under calm conditions, but is unrealistic under most conditions and pilot skill levels. On my solo 100-mile X-country to Healdsburg, CA, in a Luscombe 8A, I encountered ~ 10-15mph 90-degree gusty X-winds on a relatively narrow runway, and was able to successfully land by aggressively popping the stick forward to force the aircraft to stay on the ground to avoid drifting off of the runway with the wind. I was young then...now I would instead divert to another airport. 😊

    • @thisoldpilot2151
      @thisoldpilot2151 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the compliment. The Luscombe is very controllable in crosswind landings with a skilled, proficient pilot. 40 years ago I was taught wheel landings before 3 point landings. I still prefer wheel landings. The strongest crosswind I encountered with my Luscombe was 17 gusting to 26 knots, which was challenging. I would never advise attempting a moderate or strong crosswind if you're a freshy who just got a tailwheel endorsement. Thanks for watching!

    These days, 'general aviation' is VERY MUCH a 'Rich Man's Game'; from kit prices, engine prices, flight instruction (try finding a Sport Pilot License training facility in ANY location other than Big Cities!), and fuel. The FAA has morphed from an agency whose primary goal really WAS 'safety' for those in the air and on the ground, into just another Alphabet Thug Agency controlled and operated by Fascist Thugs, whose SOLE goal is money (ever increase budgets and salaries), and POWER/CONTROL. The proof of my statement: the archaic Part 103 Rules, Sport Pilot/Experimental Aircraft Limitations. FADEC 'One Lever' should have been legal for ALL aircraft when prove as reliable, but it's STILL NOT legal; CSP is for rich people and out of reach for everyone else. Part 103 is where some of the most vicious and targeted discrimination and rampant thuggish tactics have been made: there is NO reason why the 264 lbs limit exists, nor for the 55hp limit: both make Part 103 AIRCRAFT LESS SAFE, and especially so in light of the Physics of flight, when viewed within the scope of Life Threatening Differences in Performance at Inland, NON-Sea Level altitudes exist. Those of us who live in the Mountain States, are routinely targeted and our LIVES are put in danger by the FAA's 'Sea Level One Size Fits All' approach to regulations. Our airport elevations start at appx 3,000 feet and go HIGHER quite dramatically: Casper, WY, is 5200 ft, which is in Wyoming terms, often seen as 'the Midlands' in elevation: please see Laramie as a good example. Colorado airports in smaller towns in the Rockies proper, can be nearly 2X higher. My point is that 'General Aviation' is NO longer 'General'. The dream of 'everyman', the 'average man' being able financially and bureaucratically to be a pilot and own a plane, and Fly Regularly, is no longer possible. Considering the ever growing bureaucratic power of the FAA, I have no doubt we'll see an ever dwindling number of GA pilots, and as Experimental Aircraft are now priced in the $60k-$300k range, the 'average man/woman' has now become a bunch of Post-Coital Primates, and this IS the intention of the FAA and the Insurance Industry. Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY

      I decided a couple of days ago that I'd do some 'real' videos about how GA sucks. Practically every video content creator out there is saying how great everything is. I've been flying for decades, and will begin producing videos on the downside of GA. FYI - when I started flying I could rent a Cessna 172 for $23/hr wet. Thanks for watching!

    I owned A 1946 C model, 65HP, N2569H for 6 years. Loved that plane. Great plane to fly low and slow!! 5 GPH, oil change 4 Qts! Can’t beat it. I flew Eurocopter EC135’s after that for 11 years then retired. Wish I had that Ercoupe back😢. My favorite aircraft to fly. Enjoy it and fly safe 🙏

      Very cool! I flew mine Friday evening, and it was a very peaceful flight. I love the days when I can fly with the canopy sides open.
