Making decisions about medical treatments
As my ALS progresses, I have to think about my current and future medical needs and the impact of each decision I make. My decisions determine how much longer I will live and the quality of that time. However, these decisions impact those around me. My decisions determine how much time they have left with me, but it also creates additional burdens on those that have to take care of me. Making these decisions are very difficult to make, but I have to make them.

Restroom Challenges

ALS creates daily challenges and uncomfortable situations. Basic necessities like showers and potty breaks become major undertakings. These things will only get more difficult and frustrating.
End of life and Estate Planning
It’s important to have your end of life wishes in place, but it’s certainly not an easy undertaking. Making these decisions are very overwhelming, even when you’re not sick. People often die without having anything in place and this creates a lot of legal issues for your loved ones. I’m hoping it does not take too long to complete everything, including a will, healthcare proxy, power of attorne...
Are medications really worth taking?
The side effects of medications are scary and often skimmed over. I seem to have issues with almost everything prescribed to me. I’m not sure it’s worth taking something that has no real benefit, but can create other issues.
Life Accomplishments
I do not believe that anyone accomplishing anything by themselves. Successes occur when we work together and don’t care about who gets the credit. I’ve never accomplished anything in my life without the guidance, support, and assistance from the people around me. Thank you to all of my friends, family, mentors, and coworkers for helping to make my life an accomplishment.
My love of public speaking
Public speaking became a passion out of no where. After being shy throughout my childhood, I never thought that I’d intentionally get up in front of large crowds. If you let yourself, you can discover so many things about yourself and find a lot of joy.
Of course I’m emotional

My mental state of mind and well-being is what you’d expect it to be, but I’m pretty good at keeping myself in check. So for those of you that want to know, here’s a brief explanation.
The paperwork avalanche
It’s amazing how much paperwork is involved with every life event, but I have discovered you win the jackpot for tons of paperwork when you are diagnosed with a terminal illness. Just about everything I need or have to do requires a mountain of paperwork asking the same questions. It hasn’t stopped since I was diagnosed and there doesn’t appear to be an end. Is dying not enough, do we have to t...
Tightness, twitches, and spasms
Can you imagine having constant muscle twitches all over your body all day, every day? What about severe muscle extensions that makes you feel like your joints are going to come apart and your body to violently shake? Frequent and massive Charlie horses? These are a just a few things I deal with every day and it gets worse with time.
Are families going extinct
The importance of family seems to be going extinct. We have a broken society because we have so many broken people and families. We can repair so many things just by listening and taking action. We have to revive the importance of honoring yourself and your family. The older generations need to lift up the younger generations and the younger generations need to support the older generations. Th...
Friendships are so meaningful and enriching
Each person that comes into our lives teaches us valuable lessons, bad and good. They help mold us into the person we are and will be. Choose your friends wisely, cherish them, grow the relationship, and enjoy the moments with them. We grow as human beings when we have friends and the more diverse the better. I love my friends.
Celebrating my stepdad
The love that I had and still have for my stepdad, George Andrew Zeigler, Jr. is indescribable. Even this video does not define it enough. I wished we could be celebrating this day with you in person. I hope you knew how much of an impact you made on the people that knew you.
Balance and falling

I no longer have the ability to keep my balance and fall very easy. I have to always be alert and cautious. Unfortunately, Brian stays anxious about me possibly falling.
Overheating and constant sweating
Overheating and constant sweating is something I deal with daily. I’m not sure if it’s a side effect of ALS, my medication, or something else.
Asking for and accepting help can be difficult
Asking for and accepting help can be difficult, especially when you’re accustomed to being the person who prefers to do the helping. People have been asking for ways that can help. I reluctantly put together a few things people can do, if you want to and can help. We deeply appreciate the kind gestures, encouragement, support, and prayers.

Great info, making the excess sweating stop within 2 days was so much more than I expected, I went with what I talked about last week and after the first day or so I was very surprised to start feeling much more comfortable and dry! I went ahead and go'ogled the latest by Cynthia Yulesin and after 72 hours I now sweat like a “normal” person lol

Have you considered spending some time fighting for access to new ALS therapies as well, that we should have access to right now? Thanks for your work.
