Sounds like you're making a lot of progress. However can't help but notice: Your shoulders are elevated and clearly very tense, your neck is also at an unnatural angle. These are leading to a pinched tone and jerky fingering transitions. Try to do some long tone exercises in a mirror. Focus on keeping your muscles relaxed and maintaining the same posture you have when the sax isn't in your hands. This will improve everything you're doing and allow you to play longer with less fatigue and strain.

You’ve got a good sound developing. Many, like I did, struggle with that for at least 2-3 years. I started on alto 3 years ago in March then transferred to tenor in November. Just started being happy with my sound about 6 months ago so you’re further ahead than me. If you are self-taught and looking to develop dynamics, articulation, phrasing, etc I’d look into Jamie Andersons course from get your sax together. I think the course is called Phrase like a pro. It’s helped me tremendously. Keep it up, you’re doing well.

I was willing to pay for it. Twice. But when trying to download any sheet music, it just gives a pop-up/splash screen and there is no way to get any scores. I did this twice, about 6 years apart. Would be sweet if it worked.

Thank you for sharing your bad experience with Musescore. This is a very common scam and lots of companies are doing it. They lure unsuspected victims with all kinds of promises to get them signed up with their credit/debit cards and then start to charge them immediately even though the ad claims with a trial period. If you read the find prints, you will see the credit/debit card gets charged immediately once the account gets signed up. Musescore use to give free download and now they start to charge. I don't fall for such a free scamming offer unless they change their scamming offer, i.e. We will give you an absolute 7-days free trial account with unlimited downloads sans any credit/debit card and your account will automatically be cancelled at the end of the trial period unless you update your account with payment before the trial period ends! I bet you they don't dare to make such an offer. If all you want is to get the sheets in PDF or MIDI file format, you can find some Musescore download plugins for your web browser to download the sheets and they are free sans any needs for credit/debit cards. I would prefer to download both and then import the MIDI file into Musescore for making some necessary changes/corrections. I just hope this helps.

I put my horn down a few years back but played in the US Army band, also hold a couple of music degrees. Keep up the great work man, progress is a beautiful thing. Check out The Art of Playing Saxophone by Larry Teal, has some great tips that will help with your lower jaw tension and get a more consistent pressure around the mouthpiece. That will make the horn respond more consistently, but will also open the conversation about the S tuning curve.

Well done from a alto saxophonist and having a very good mouthpiece makes a difference in your playing. Keep the practice up sounding good mate

Hey man, great playing. Squeaking on the high G is quite common, even i do it sometimes after 6 years of playing 😅. That G is when the octave mechanism switches from the neck to the side which causes it to be a bit awkward. I find that singing or tightening your embochure helps prevent sqeaking. Hi! I just signed in on Musescore . First I know that I don’t have a credit card charged on my Google account . But I am still not sure if I did the 7 days trial. When I signed in , it said if you press continue you will be charged with (this amount ). Does it mean that they will somehow take money from me or not ? Pls I need help ASAP!!!

Being an adult beginner is a tough spot to put ourselves, so hats off to you and continue having fun with it. My fear, starting sax at 68 was people expecting way more than I could produce. That kept me in the shed for too long, but then again it has worked out for my perfectionist personality. After eight years, I got past it. This is a bit of theory I learned at the BetterSax blues course you might benefit from knowing. To construct any blues scale, memorize this. Root no 2nd, flat 3rd, 4th, the blue note aka sharp 4th/flat5th, 5th and flat 7. Memorizing it this way makes it easy to construct the other blues scales without having to use reference materials. Jay at BetterSax also has a course on understanding transposing instruments, which takes the mystery out of playing a tenor sax and the others. None of the 4 common saxes are pitched in concert pitch like keyboards and guitars.

This video was interesting from my perspective, cheapest way to start, you need to find a player or teacher that is willing to help you find a good used horn that works good. You can buy a used horn that looks good and doesn’t play and can be beyond repair. A used saxophone should play full range chromatic, low b flat to high f or f sharp. Keep in mind if you quit you can sell your used sax and get most of your money back. Take care of it. I play a tenor I have had for 52 years, played an alto for about 25 of those years. A saxophone will need maintenance, pads are like tires on a car, both my saxophones have some original pads and some that have been changed up to 3 times, corks and bumpers need replacing, the whole sax needs to be taken apart cleaned oiled and put back together. Your first sax should take you a few years in even if it isn’t the best brand.

Saxophone is expensive that's for sure, but it's not much worse than electric guitar, needing an amp etc... If you can resist the gear acquisition syndrome it's not too bad in the long run.

Just today tried the 7 day free trial but for now at least no money got out of my bank account. I am scared as shit because I'm 17 and don't have a job. I cancelled my subscription but I don't know what I will do if they make me pay. I just wanted to print heart and soul piano sheet. Did you manage to cancel the membership yet?

Cyprus is actually part of the EU but heu, there's shitty business practices here too x) Maybe try contacting your credit card company? I liked the music notation software but was annoyed at their new business model, yet another good thing ruined by a subscription model (and dark UX patterns to top it off)

I've been playing tenor saxophone for 5 months and got scammed by this company. I'm sharing my experience to this community in hope that it A) hurts the predatory company and B) saves the saxophone community from loosing money. Beware of Musecore.com - They are an online sheet music subscription service. They have scammed numerous people including myself by offering a "free" 7 day trial by promise. They charged myself and numerous others for a year subscription instantly and would not refund my money or change me to a 7 day account which is what I agreed to. They are based out of Cyprus in the Middle East and in my humble opinion, a predatory company. If you want more details, watch my 5 min video where I explain what happened to me and other musicians.
