You control the number of cards/gold you get by choosing where to place things. For example, lumberyard gives the number of cards equal to the number of adjacent forest tiles. In the beginning you'd better place it next to 2-3 forest tiles. Later in the game it's too much, and mostly you need to place it next to 1 forest and periodically - next to 2 or more forest tiles. (You may run out of cards if placing lumberyard exclusively next to 1 forest) Another example is field. Always place it next to same field type tiles to maximise gold. Finally, bakery - always place it next to 4 house tiles to maximise gold. One more tip - some cards can be placed on top of the previously placed same card. It's especially important for mill, lumberyard and quarry.

When inside the lodge, your opponent is 'X'. But when outside the lodge, your opponent is 'O'. I didn't figure out the game's win conditions, but since the opponent is winning both when he's 'O' and when he's 'X', you can use his moves information against him. Exact steps are the following: . . . . You start from outside, take a note of your 'O' opponent's just one move (let's call it 1st recorded 'O' move). Then go inside and repeat the recorded 'O'-moves (at this step, just one recorded move) and take a note of your current 'X' opponent's next move (2nd recorded 'X' move). After that you go outside of the lodge again, wait for opponent's 'O'-move. If it's not the same as before (1st recorded 'O'-move) - just restart the match until it's the same. Repeat 'X'-moves (just one - 2nd recorded 'X' move), wait for just one more opponent's move and take a note of it (3rd recorded 'O' move). Then go inside and repeat the recorded 'O'-moves (1st recorded and 3rd recorded) and write down one move 'X'-move (4th recorded 'X' move). Then go outside and repeat the 'X'-moves (2nd recorded and 4th recorded), wait and record one more 'O' move (5th). Go inside, repeat the recorded 'O'-moves, record 'X'-move (6th). Go outside, repeat the recorded 'X'-moves, wait for opponent move, and make the only possible 'X'-move left - you should win.

The rule is that just always put your mark on the opposite side.
