Car now is a tool, usually taken in some kind of long-term lease and replaced every 3-4 years without any sentiment, it takes you from a point A to a point B and that's it. Everything now is like that, remember when people where excited about presentation of new smartphones to see all the the new features? Well, now it's hard to tell if a phone is just released or it's a model from 5 years ago, it's all the same shit

I agree with him, some brands lost touch but we also have to understand we have to evolve as technology advance or stay behind. We just have to enjoy the things we have as long as possible.

Back in the 50’s and 60’s you could shut your eyes and reel off the name of each car going past just by the engine sound. We did this as a game when we were kids. And visually of course they were all very different. Not so these days.

Old people prefer to stay with the known things. Fact is if we think like this, there is no future and improvement.

Car manufacturers are in survival mode right now. With the instability of not only having the world government ringing the combustion engines noose tighter and tighter every year, And customers who at one point were raving about fully electric cars, and are now preferring the convenience of a hybrid system. Even the fact that women are taking a larger share of the automotive market which means more SUV’s, more safety, more niceties, more luxury, more comfort, and fewer compromises, which all add up to really pretty, but really heavy, numb, and bloated vehicles (especially sports cars) that the minority first and majority second and 3rd hand purchasing enthusiasts have to just take what they can get, and scour the aftermarket to undo as much modern crap as possible to return the car back to a state where it should have been all along.

Alright, somebody has to say it. Half of all executives and managers at auto manufacturers are now women. Women who have no particular interest in cars, and don't enjoy driving. This is why all of the cars on the market today are mom-mobiles: SUVs, crossovers, and cars that look like SUVs and crossovers. Few cars come in manual. There are very few sports cars on the market. And nothing is fun or cool. You would think that car companies would be run by car enthusiasts who know their car enthusiast customers. But they aren't and they don't because half of them are women.

Cars lately are like cheap toasters: they do a job, have fancy overbuilt controls, and you throw them out when they break. Of course they are electric.

This is all by design, if the population is to accept autonomous travel then the population needs to lose interest in driving. This all started 20 years ago when steering feel was engineered out of cars, bit by bit. There is zero reason why modern cars cannot posses steering feel. Zero.

My newest car is a 2012. I hate all new cars.

Modern cars are white goods. Through technological advancements they might do their primary job a bit better than they used to, but they can’t and don’t do anything else, there’s nothing interesting or worth mentioning about them.

For me the north american cars from 60-70th are absolutely the best cars ever. Petsonality, caracter, elegance, size, luxuary.... Nowdays cars are.... boring things

There is absolutely nothing cool coming out except maybe what, the Mustang GTD? The AMG-One is kinda like the CLK GTR which has been done already, but it's kinda cool I guess since it's really fast? The McLaren W1 is a more powerful P1. Cool.

Today what rules above anything else in the automobile industry is quick mass production, to satisfy the clients but above that the manufacturers themselves, thanks to the benefits obtained through mass production. The easiest way to achieve that is taking the same mould and make just some minor aesthetic changes here and there on lights and windows for example, while the rest remains the same (including the wheel hubs). That way they save a lot of time and money, because they have nothing to research, just copy and paste. In the past (up to the 80s I'd say) each brand had its own appeal and seal. Now what rules is globalization on wheels. Probably the company that suffered the most with this mutilation of identity and personality is Citroën. We all remember unforgettable classics like the DS/ID, 15CV, 2CV, Dyane, Ami 6 and 8, Mehari, GS & GSA, BX, AX, CX... You only need to look at the car itself to know what it was. But now... you need to look at the logo on the bodywork or the steering wheel to realize about the car that you are looking at or driving, and still, classic brands today have nothing to do with what they used to be in the past. They have all lost their personalities and have all converged into one single pattern. To be honest, whenever I see some piece of advertisement on a "new" car, I laugh out loud at the label "new". In addition, since manufacturers today earn way more money through quick mass production than through having reliable products that can be repaired and last for decades or anything else, the perfect strategy is to mass-produce things with a scheduled or pre-programmed short living expectancy, to the point that when they reach the age of 10 (if they do) they are already too old and it becomes more expensive to repair them (if possible at all) than to buy a new one. Just the perfect excuse to aid mass-production. That is what I call "Kleenex cars": "use once and throw". I don't agree with everything that Jeremy says, but it seems that this is one of those points in which we see eye to eye.
