This was from 1999 When the Salton Bay Yacht Club still existed but was long deserted at Salton Sea, CA. Not much exists on TH-cam about it. Wish it was still there to explore. Shot with my shoulder mount big vhs camcorder....no easy cell phone videos in 1999.

So to eliminate a good amount of sagging it’s better to make the sections out of 5 feet of piping instead of the full 10 feet?

Have you noticed any sagging? One of the more expensive systems said they don't reccomend piping because it sags over time. I have to wonder if they only said that because they want us to buy their products and not diy.
Replying from different account. Doesn't seem to be sagging much if any. The cable has a turnbuckle to tighten if needed, but I haven't had to touch it since install

8 mo update? May need to try this. Dog keeps going over to neighbors. Guy says confuses him for mountain lion.
Still good, she has never gotten over wall, and doesn't even try anymore. Neighbor with her small dog is very appreciative

She's never jumped gate. Too slippery to get traction. Has yet to climb wall with rollers.

For our dog it has worked fine. From what I can tell, she had never tried to hang in the wall since i out it up. I think 1 inch would be good, but 3/4 seems to work fine.

Wow. Just wow. I live in Florida where we have waterfront canals everywhere. Down here, everything is green and lush while this looks post-apocalyptic. Great job!
Should never have been allowed to develop that sight. Even back in the 1950s people know the Salton Sea would turn into a hypersaline lake.

Yeah when I took this, the gate wasn't locked, was just half closed. . Surprised it hasn't been knocked down.

@@ChiefExecutiveOrbiter I think so, if you Google earth it, it looks like there's a dirt road just to south of it that runs along the bottom, there has to be a way in there. Impossible to fence off that whole property on all sides
Salton Sea is such a cool place, I hope I’ll see it’s recovery in my lifetime, but they better hurry up. I’m 66 and not in the best of health.
I read that this was used for military training, 1940’s ish for WW2 pilots. Many Navy planes at bottom, left majority of pilots inside. Do you know anyone about that? Just curious. Thanks for sharing!
The training was mostly done on the south part of the sea by the old air force base, south west to be more specific. This area is north east side, pretty sure that the ruins are just from flooding. Yeah there are 20 or so reported planes still in the sea. Crazy

What happened to this place?? Every time I have visited all I can think is there is something very mysterious about why this once bustling seaside region was left is shambles. Any theories?
@@sallyamiller4337 nothing too mysterious.....the sea level rose in the late 70's due to big rain years and flooded out the shore line resorts and neighborhoods. Wasn't worth it to rebuild.

I wonder what this was back in the day. I guess the falling water levels are now exposing stuff that was submerged even before the 1950s-60s heyday of the Sea.

@@chrisdavies6137 thanks! I've been fascinated by the SS for years, but never got my head around how the water levels have increased and receded over the years. If this was built during the 1950s boom, was flooded (like much other beachfront property) in the 1970s / 80s, and is only just now being exposed, why have other places such as the Fingers, Varner Harbor and North Shore Marina, that were presumably built at around the same time / water level, been dry for a few years now? Fabulous historical photo anyway. I love the old wooden speedboats - just a little cockpit, a massive engine, and a lot of varnish :) It really was a 'miracle in the desert', if all too short-lived.
This video is 2 to 3 years old. I went there and filmed again about 4 months ago. Much more exposed now.

@@chrisdavies6137 yes, the receding of the lake seems to be accelerating :( I'm in the UK but going by Google Earth, the North Shore marina is now entirely cut off from the water. Salton Sea archaeology is fascinating, but also depressing. Unless they can find a way to refill it by pumping water from the Sea of Cortez, I suspect I'll never get to see it - it will be a nothing but a gloopy, dank puddle in the middle of the desert before I make it over there :(

The Salton Sea area had two very destructive hurricanes come in 1976 and 1977 (it is north of the Sea of Cortez). As if the hurricanes were not enough, there was year-over-year flooding in mid 80s. I believe that is when the beach was abandoned and the earth levee was built after that. The residents now are Mexican immigrant farmworker families and the men work in the nearby agricultural fields. The average BB income is the lowest in Imperial County. From what I see, the people are proud of their homes and take as good care of them as they can.
Help me build Heaven on Earth and we can revive the Salton Sea, create employment by building garden dome homes and water cleaning power plants, to fund employed education into space exploration...Join me in the Green Party... lets be the good changes we want to be...

I get a deep melancholy feeling seeing this video. I was at this site less than 6 months ago. I am 61 years old and other than my career in the military, I have was born, raised and lived in CA. I finally decided to visit the Salton Sea and was deeply saddened. Even though I never vacationed there, my cousins did and would tell us how fun it was. It was right out of an Elvis movie. It is kind of analogous to where this country has drifted and decayed since our own government whacked our President.
