A long-time racer, from 1984 to 2018 ranging from Karting to Stock Car Racing. Always been an RC fan since my first RC Car (Sand Scorcher) from about 1982.
Since then I have an RC TH-cam Channel to "Document" what I get up to. There are also links for my eBay Shop for Tamiya Hop Ups so you should find something of interest.

Talking about DROOP, just to point out with the terminology, when I say more or less droop, it actually relates to the measurement, eg: 1mm of droop, more droop is 1.2mm, less droop is 0.8mm - it may have come across I was referring to the movement of the chassis. eg: more chassis movement is less droop, less chassis movement is more droop, its the difference in the measurement - sorry if this ...

Congrats on finishing the build. It would be interesting to see you run it outside somewhere to get an idea of its handling, when the weather/time permits.
Couldn't be bothered to get an actual car to demonstrate this? Why bother?
yeah sorry brother, bad choice of words. 2 years ago maybe a naïve me, as things stand, a set up video is planned using all the set up gadgets I own....
I just bought one of these and the instruction manual is a bit dodgey. Thanks for reviewing this and explaining things.
Everyday is a school day 😃
Interesting too see working on the rear for steering. I’ve always done changes too front. Could well be where I’m going wrong!!!
@@nathanwilson588 it’s how I did my race cars in general. It’s a fine balance between front and rear 12th scale don’t have tyre pressures but tyre diameter can do a similar adjustment
Nice to see something a bit different. The equipment level looks pretty good, agree the on/off switch will be a pain to use. If your a youngster this could be very off-putting, it would be worth the manufacturers spending a euro to move the on/off switch somewhere more usable! Cheap transmitter, but good for a beginner. Keep the reviews coming.
I bet you found that spring! And you found it shortly after you finished building that step!!!! Ralp[hie
12th scale? I raced those back in the early 80s.
yes, I am trying to race at my local club. Difficult finding the time due to work load - they are fantastic fun to drive
@racing393 I'm here in the State of Michigan. In the day, we had a really solid club. In the Summer months we had a section of an asphalt parking lot that we painted a circuit on, and in the winter, we would set up an indoor carpet track in an empty Mall store. Back then we used brushed motors and nicad batteries. It was a struggle to make an 8 minute race. Good memories
@ sounds like great times, 8 mins now is quite easy, but I guess it’s down to the driver to get more out of the LiPOs we use nowadays
@@kkuenzel56 8 minutes?!! We could barely get 4 in 1/10 offroad. lol
Keep em coming and keep em in PRODUCTION!
What's your favourite? Mine's the shaguar.
Prob have to pick the Ford Escort
Awesome 👌 love it
Cheers - hope some can take a little from my help just to get them heading in the right direction
I've wanted one since 86 and have never been able to afford it. Like you I almost spent a ridiculous amount just to have one. I eventually got an original RC10T but it just wasn't the same. Once AE announced the 40th I very sick and just figured I would again miss my chance to own one. I got lucky and my wife found a 40th for very reasonable price and I finally picked one up. The only people this flood hurts is resellers/scalpers. Great rant dude.
Crisp packet!!😂 Yeah,I'm seeing those eighties smiths square crisps with the additional blue salt shaker bag enclosed inside!! The thundershot family are actually a really good chassis, they really do drive well.....and what a bargain! The terra scorcher is probably my favourite of the bunch.....but like you i really aint feeling cab forward. I mean come on,where do the drivers legs go? 🤔 Look forward to seeing what you do with this one fella! As for the build videos, just do your own thing man.....whatever floats your boat. I personally try not to do many build videos for our channel, mainly because I find it takes a lot of the fun out of the build. But,if we do put any out i try and just do simple photo montages of the stages. Thats the beauty of TH-cam,we can all put our own spin on things! 😊 👍 👍
Those drive shafts are designed to work with the rc channel full rear metal kit that fixes the extreme negative camber, they won't work with the stock arms...as you've found out
yes, at the time it hadn't clicked - I have used them before but overlooked it this time - thanks for taking the time to comment 😀
I love everyone of them and (hopefully) I’ll get everyone of them and long may they continue to produce them (including the green one) 👍
agree long may it continue. I think the moaning was from people who want to collect RC10s, too many at once and cash flow. I understand, but I am sure there will be stock available for a while yet. But when you have a "limited Edition" USP and produce lots of these kits, they are no so limited.......still don't matter to me. I'll buy what I want to buy and be happy
If you ain't crashing, you ain't trying hard enough.!! 😉 😉 😁😁
The wonky 728 will drive you mad, I would change them to releive the pain. Enjoyed this installment.
I think of better ways to do something usually after I have already mucked up. It's annoying, I'll probably wait as it only bothers me when i look at it, currently it's on the shelf facing out so I can't see the sides.....A very important detail.......to get wrong! - happy you enjoyed it 😀
Have been running my GT12 for about a year on and off. Have just this week had a fresh set of tyres trued and I'm going to race the GT12 tomorrow at our Saturday club meet. It will be intersting to see how the car now handles. Very opertune to see this video on tyres.Have set the tyres to 42mm, Have been advised to go for 41.5mm, so will try this next time!
More shit.. 😂😂👍👍
AE are hurting the real collectors rereleasing kits way too fast. Yes we want the rereleases just slow down.
maybe they will stop rere's all together once they have finished - collectors will still have that edge won't they in originality? Having the original Gold Pan from a certain location will always be a collectible. People like myself (you) can still collect - Don't think stock will get too thin on the ground, with new Kits and availability, in the UK you can still buy a RC10 Clear. You have to also remember the RC10 buzz only really ticks the boxes of fans from 40 years and above, I know it will bring new fans of course. Whilst AE have the machines turned on they may as well keep going - if the 4x4 appears, I am a bit worried on the cost!
Lol.... Great rant man!! 😅 We are well and truly spoilt for choice these days, which in my mind is only a good thing for all us middle aged man kids! Tamiya, kyoshos, Schumacher, team associated...... so many choices!! The issue is not with the RC companies, it's with the bloody Gov for keeping us all skint so we can't afford to buy them all.... but don't get me started on that one!! We can now enjoy building and racing these vintage classics, and like you say, get new parts to bring our old cars back to life!! I agree with you 100%. I still don't own an original RC10 (yet)...... Just an RC10B6. 2,but being a huge vintage guy I know that this will change very soon! 😊 👍 👍
@@yodadarksideGreenHawksRC cheers man, just so many moaning RC fans We should embrace the releases And Yeah I am with you on the GOV, don’t get me started lol
@racing393 Spot on mate! 👌 They all need to stop moaning about having loadsa cool vintage RC kits being made available, and put their energy into protesting against this ludicrous dictatorship that we are loosing our rights and country to!! 😩 The RC hobby is about the only thing that is keeping me sane right now!! 😂 👍 👍

Just out of interest, have you checked the weight of the car? It looks heavy ish! With my M06 and GT12, if I can shave a few grams off here and there, its a win. Have you ever worried about the weight?
@@AndrewBorrill1 1/8 nitro buggies are a lot heavier than 1/10 and 1/12 race cars, also “ vintage” nitro buggies are more likely to be quite heavy. I haven’t weighed it but it must be 3 kg Even at 30mph you wouldn’t want it hitting your ankle Modern 1/8 buggies are lighter but still a lot more than the aforementioned M06/GT12
The build is progressing well, amazed to see the oil hopper for the rear shocks. Quite something! Hope you get the motor/esc sorted.
@@AndrewBorrill1 errrrr yes, that’s another story 🙄🙄
You’ve done more racing than I have - the pursuit of perfection is just such a turn off for me in general I can’t deal with all that stress 🤷♂️ I can relate to going around town eyeing every bit of open dirt wondering would it be a good place to rip cars or not 👍
The racing scene in RC or any competitive environment involves commitment, I like your RC channel as it is fairly mimics how I think, the building up of vintage kits and trying to find that part, I guess you have a 3D printer wade? I do, but I haven't set it up yet - again finding time ! Cheers for watching or listening - keep up your good work mate
what tyres and wheels are in the video? they're very nice. thank you.
The wheels are vintage wheels from JC Racing and the Tyres are Schumacher Honeycomb yellows from most good model stores
Nice honest video. Painting is always a nightmare,
Good Start to the build. I was interested to see the diff being put together. Have done a few diff builds for M05/M06 Mini's and they quite often suffer from diff failure while club racing. Had a failure today on the M06 which took 1hr 20mins to fix and missed 2 qualifier races! It can be a complete pain. I think Tamiya diff quality is an issue, hence the failures. Keep going with the build, it is interesting to follow.
@@AndrewBorrill1 yeah for racing Tamiya Ball Diffs can be hit and miss, for just running I think they do ok.
This was my first racing buggy in the 90s.

Did you do a review? Interested in this one, hard to find any impressions, people either go for aliexpress cheapos or top of the line radios and I'm aiming for something in-between
@@ninotocka it’s a very good radio, I haven’t don’t a proper review but it’s good for racing my LMP12, or just running old vintage nitros Had a lot of requests to do a review video. Now that I am more familiar with it, I’ll see what I can do
A good first run, you know your ebay cash has not been wasted. Keep going, looking forward to the electronics install. Its interesting to see this nitro rebuild as I only know about electric RC's which by comparison are a lot simpler to get going (in theory)!
@@AndrewBorrill1 thank you Andrew, rebuilding Vintage Nitros is very satisfying when it all seems to work
Interesting to see you using warm water to change the paint temperature. What I do is heat the body shell with a hairdryer and get it quite toastie, then spray outdoors. The paint dries very quickly.
yeah this works providing the outside temp is not damp. This was a hard body so the finish is important, Lexan is more forgiving
Good to see the engine rebuild. Are you at all worried about the fuel tank being very close to the exhaust? Could it be a melting plastic situation?
Yeah, it's not ideal, the tank isn't the correct one for this Buggy. From a just run it occasionally perspective it won't be an issue - a race buggy however would be a worry, as you say a tank which could melt and the fuel being hotter (I always thought cooler fuel is better for performance in full size cars?) If i can get the Buggy running ok and tuned, I probably source a different tank, as I need to drill the chassis anyway as I don't think I'll find an original
The metal top brace that has a break in it. You could try some solder to hold the crack together or even try some type of 2 part Epoxy like Araldite.
Been thinking of doing gt12 nationals and have similar thoughts
Concise and well thought out guide.
The music that keeps coming in is annoying
@@hunterrider349 ok, I’ll look at what I have done and change what I do All feedback is good Cheers
You don't get much more early eighties than the Super champ!! The SRB chassis is one of the few Tamiya chassis that i am yet to build.....mainly because i am patiently waiting for them to re re the Ford Ranger! Often thought about making one up from a sand scorcher re re kit and a blackfoot body.....but ideally i want the Ranger in its full box art glory, blister packs included! I love their blister packs from back in the day,the presentation was so much better than the modern thrown into the box approach . Although saying that,it does make them hard to build as it hurts cutting into all that lovely packaging (hence why my egress and avante black special havent been built yet!) Im loving all the hop ups you have got for this one dude, you didn't hold back did you ?😅 Especially liking the carbon chassis and aluminum wheels. Thats guna look so cool once built......it will be hard to drive it!! I was only saying to someone the other day about how expensive bearings used to be,we are very lucky now how cheap they are these days.....electronics and radio gear to for that matter! I love the rear shock on this model, with the oil bottle fitted it looks so quirky ! Looking forward to seeing the build. And yes,the UK totally sucks these days.....not just the weather ,the whole country is broken!😩 👍 👍 👍
I bought a Ranger back in the day from my local model shop - Built - lovely model, I sold it at a car boot for £80 I think back in the early 90s. The Super Champ as I refer to it is a cool Buggy. Limited on the Motors due to the gear casing and or course the gearing. (like all SRBs) Yep don't get me started on the UK, My channel would look totally different if I did. lol

Interesting little chat there fella! Im fast approaching the big 50 myself and can certainly relate to much of what you say. I was heavily into rc from 1985 to 1992 when i fell out of love with the hobby and discovered the early 90s rave scene, music, partying and girls!! Didnt even think about rc for nearly 30 years until covid struck in 2020! During lock down i decided to restore my original midnight pumpkin that i got in 1987.....and consequently got on TH-cam and ebay and was shocked to see rc was still actually going strong, and all the vintage cars of my youth were getting re released!! Found so many great channels (rc kicks,Tamiya legends ,mark bryan rc,pete wylie rc etc) The fire had been re ignited! My original plan was to shelf my restored pumpkin.....but very soon started learning about the new generation of radios ,esc's,lipos, brushless motors etc. Before i knew it i had pumpkin out up our local park and had an absolute blast driving it! Yes,as an adult you do tend to get a few strange looks.....but at 48 years old you no longer care what people think,if they want to judge you for being young at heart then thats their problem not mine!😂 The funny thing is,people of my own age or older all tended to be interested ,and would come over and chat/reminisce !! The thing that surprised me was the kids of today showed absolutely no interest what so ever in general . Fast forward 4 years and i now have 40+ cars, most vintage re releases,or vintage ones that I have restored fully to their former glory! I started bashing /racing them with mates, and we started a figure of eight circuit night up tescos car park where we time trial against eachother regularly .....once again, not caring what people think about these grown men and women playing with toy cars at 10 o clock at night in supermarket carparks!😂 Somehow, before i knew it we started a TH-cam channel to- Green hawks rc .....where we have forged so many new friendships with the awesome rc community ! Check us out mate, you may enjoy some of our stuff.....especially if you like the retro side of things. Great video fella, and keep driving those cars.....it keeps us young!😂 👍 👍 👍
Fantastic story, and pretty much aligns my RC journey to a degree. I will defo sub your channel. It's good to hear your thoughts and yes, the younger generation nowadays have what seems zero "interest" in Rc cars. Most RC clubs I have been to are grown men, hardly any women or kids and the funny this is, without women and kids there would be no "Men playing RC" - cheers for watching
Cheers for the sub fella..... Subbed back!! And yes, totally agree..... most of us of this age went down a similar path, and I think a lot of what drives us now is nostalgia based, a chance to re live our childhood from what was definitely perceived as a 'better time'. The modern tech, and having more disposable income also now helps as 'adults'!! It's great fun putting modern gear into retro platforms, retro mod as it were..... and pushing them to the limits, which are considerably higher than what they were designed for in the eighties! 😅 It's actually quite shocking how much faster electric rc cars are now in comparison to nitro! I also think the whole TH-cam thing has given the hobby a whole new spin- Being able to film and share builds, restorations and racing, and even competing in worldwide speed competitions from the comfort of your own locality is a blast! Like I say, enjoyed the video..... and never feel embarrassed to run that hotshot etc..... your never to old to play!! 👍 👍 👍
I have this vehicle and it's one of my favorites.
One of Tamiya's flagship buggies from the 80s
I liked the hop-ups you went for. The ball diff looked interesting. Which country did you end up buying the kit from?

RC 10s were always Race cars. they weren't for toy hobbyists. my first rc car was a Clodbuster... I Know the difference between a rc10 graphite and the fan rc wolds car. Most of th difference is the shocks, the longer front arms, and the stealth tranny. The FanRC is a race car.... if you can find the original rc 10 Team car set up for the tie rod lengths and set them at that you got aa great starting point. The manuals were always wishy washy. Ive been building these things for like 30 years lol
Its a knockoff of tjhe WORLDS edition, with a graphite chassis...
No Fan RC is coming out with the replica of the RC10 Worlds Car with a graphite chassis. Yes Im getting one
Good to hear
I remember buying a Mardave for one of my lads, it had the old mechanical speed controller, basically a large potentiometer! This was early 2000's. Then catching the bug myself in 2006 and buying a Tamiya M03. This was the start of RC racing for me. Joined a local club and I now regularly race a Tamiya M06 and when I can a GT12, usually with the LMP class. So have been racing, on and off for 18yrs, but now I go weekly. Still enjoy the whole experience. The only thing that worries me is the cost for youngsters to start up racing. Its not cheap and is one of the drawbacks of the hobby. The other worry is the lack of women who race. I think today we had two women and one girl racing, which honestly is quite unusual. Its usually just us blokes!
Yeah, it can be expensive to race in the hobby from scratch, the lack of women in motorsport has always been there It interesting to hear how people get into the hobby
Hi: i have not built my kit yet, but I know the kit is mostly a “worlds” edition, with a graphite chassis. I suggest you download a copy of the worlds kit….the long bolts for your steering, look to be the front shock mount screws which attach to the shock tower….
yes, all sorted now. Car built. Next steps will be electric etc. Then a few local club visits in 25
How did u swap the throttle linkage/attach it to the carburetor
It's the same as the GT, the linkage between the servo and the brake lever needs a slight kink, can't remember if I used a slightly longer linkage as it was years ago I did this. But it's pretty much the same set up. The servo horn is a T (upside down) and I used a linkage with a ball cup and spring so the carb can be pulled
Tamiya makes a ball diff for them now.
