Thanks for the video. I just heard about your channel through the video made by Many Roads No Rules. Your artwork is beautiful. I do mostly watercolor, but I have done some acrylic paintings and gouache. And I want to start doing some oil painting. My channel is mostly about my travels, but I do visit art and quilting museums.

It's understandable that imitating and replicating a famous illustrator can be a useful tool in one's development as an artist but we need to stress the fact that copying the drawings of others should not be the end goal, merely a tool for practice. Emulating another person's style is a teetering fence to be on because as creators we each should find and explore our very own graphic "look" and flavor, and not borrow too heavily. Each of us ought to create our own character designs and settings. Just wanted to put that out there. I enjoy Mr. Gorey and his artwork tremendously. I really ought to buy a big print of that 1980s poster featuring his lovely and macabre drawing for the PBS Mystery television series intro. Although to be frank about Gorey, his personality and opinions often verged for me on being too wry, curmudgeonly and catty (catty ... that's ironic, haha). I suppose we must call him an eccentric, which is a term that was used on someone who was, well, a smidge wacky or even rude. Do they still label people with that word nowadays? Haven't heard it in many moons. Anyway, he clearly didn't give much of a hoot about what people thought of him!

Hello there! What a wonderful video and so helpful for me as a self-taught artist as well. Though self-taught should sound more like self-teaching haha because I'm quite the beginner. This is so encouraging for me to see because your art is gorgeous and to know that you've learned it all on your own brings hope! It just proves that I don't need all the fancy stuff to be able to become good at it. Thank you!! I've never tried gouache but seeing how it blends so beautifully together makes me want to try it. Does it have kind of the same feel as acrylics? Do you have an opinion on what biggest difference between the two? Loved watching you create and listening to your thoughts. You CANT beat the cottman pocket sketch box with 12 colors. This is assuming that there us no difference since they changed where they make them. But they are highly pigmented, a little goes a long way. The color selection allows you to paint anything. They mix perfect, the price is right, they are easy to find anywhere and replace colors as you run out.

Sonoma County is heaven on Earth.

Hello, how well does your sealed palette work with the acryla gouache you mentioned was in it? How long do you have to use it, how much do you add? I've only seen it used with regular gouache. Loved the orange.

It is fascinating how you give life to the subjects you paint and how I can see them going from a bare smudge to a real thing full of life! I think an artist develops"an eye" for details that are crucial for that process. I also believe today's schools are, many times, just businesses. If you are lucky you might get good training but if you are not, you will spend a small fortune and they will annihilate your own particular creativity. My daughter suffered that, her trainer would disagree with her choices of colors, to the point when she stopped trying to learn. That was sad. I think you are so good at what you do... thank you for being so honest!!!

Lake Tahoe, although beautiful, is a "pond" in comparison to Lake Erie here in the great State of Ohio.

The yellow flower could possibly be a tickseed coreopsis a wildflower that grows in almost every State.
