POLOKWANE -A 27-year-old woman, Madjadji Flora Shokane from Moletjie Makgofe has appeared in Polokwane Magistrate’s Court for bail application. She faces multiple charges, including, six counts of murder, money laundering, receiving proceeds from unlawful activities, twelve counts of fraud, and defeating the ends of justice. The accused Madjadji Flora Shokane was arrested on 17 October 2024.
According to the court report, it is alleged that her mother, Rachel Shokane fraudulently took out life and funeral insurance policies for multiple victims and has claimed a total of R10 million as the sole beneficiary. The payouts were made by various service providers, including ABSA, Standard Bank, Capitec, Hollard, Assupol, Old Mutual, Onelife, and Clientele. The proceeds were shared amongst the mother Rachel Kutumela and her daughter Florah and aunt Annah Shokane.
The matter is postponed to 07 February 2025 for further investigations and the provisional date for bail application is 12-14 February 2025.
