Routine vs Vacation: This mind shift will ensure you reach your health goals! | Nightly Stretching
When we treat our health goals like vacations, we cut ourselves short because we can't see past the goal. Once a vacation is done, it's done, and then, what?
Routines, rather, are things we've built into our lives that are now automatic. When something becomes routine, that is when we are on the verge of changing our lives! The cool thing is that all of us have experience with creating routines in our lives, so even if you don't currently have healthy routines, you're able to create them, and therefore, to turn your health around.
My goal is to stretch every night. Stretching is underrated and extremely important for maintaining posture and mobility, and for preventing injury.

My knee pain decreased significantly after a 48 hour fast
มุมมอง 82 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
After completing a nearly 48 hour fast, I noticed that a nagging ache in my right knee decreased significantly, to the point that it was almost gone. I can't say for sure that fasting did the trick but it definitely seemed to help. I've learned that fasting does a great job of lowering inflammation in the body when it lingers, so I am wondering if that was what was at play. *References* *Free R...

Lifting weights but not gaining muscle? Doing cardio but not losing weight or getting in shape? Stretching but not actually getting more flexible? It could be that you're simply not dong enough. don't forget to breathe deep while stretching.
Thanks. Yeah some of my especially tight spots lead me to tense a bit sometimes. You're right about the deep breathing; I sometimes intentionally take a deep breath and increase the stretch as I exhale, as that is a technique to increase flexibility.
Bro I'm glad I found your video. I'm a 70s baby and I was doing some tiling last night and today my whole body hurt. My knees, back, ankles. everything. So I said to myself dam I need to start stretching because everything is tight. I used to go to the gym regularly, but I haven't been since covid started. I have a small bench and some 25s. Ill stay tuned to your channel bro and go on the journey as well.
That's what's up, man. Yep join in and get this daily stretching! I realize that I could sorta get away with it when I was in my teens and 20s, even though it hampered my performance and did result in a couple of injuries. Now I can feel the tightness when I don't stretch.
Would you take better care of yourself if you knew you were going to live 120 years? Stretching? More exercise? More vegetables? Comment below! 👇🏿
❤ there is no record that most flexible lived longer. Even not cat or monkey 😂
I am not implying that at all. I'm specifically asking how we would live our lives if we knew that we would live 120 years. I believe that being flexible well into old age would be quite valuable and could be an enhancement to one's quality of life.
The hardest part is starting, but this video makes it feel achievable. Great message
Indeed. Thanks!
Good reminder. Thanks
No problem!
100% agree. Stretching is v v v important. When ive done it consistently every day ny muscles were literally injury proof. Im very tight atm and feel like i could get injured in the gym. Nice to see someone else do the stretching. No one in my day to day life does it ro this extent. Peace ✌️
Thanks for your comment! Yeah, I've been consistent off and on, but I'm striving to make this a nightly thing now for real. I feel the same way...that I am more likely to hurt myself during a workout, and sure enough, I've pulled a couple of muscles in the past year. Minor pulls, but pulls nonetheless. Let's stay consistent with this stretching! 💪🏿
Thank you for sharing this... It was so real👍🏻
Great...thanks for you comment!
Such an interesting perspective! The idea of living to 120 really puts into focus the importance of self-care and longevity.
Indeed...same for me. It's another way of planning for the future that I actually want!

What do you think about liver? Do you eat it? 👇🏿
I do think eating liver is a great idea from the studies I have read, but I have a hard time preparing it just for myself. I "feel" like I should eat it a couple of times a week, but usually about once very other week.
@@lesterlewis3024 yeah, even though I like it now, I haven't gotten to a point yet where I cook it regularly. I'd probably do similar to what you're wanting to do, but realistically for me, it'll probably be 1-2 times a quarter.
@@shawnb2bfitness Yes, sounds the same. I get it when I eat out is about it.
I wonder what could possibly be the reason ?
I honestly think that many of us in these younger groups had a poor foundation as far as our diets and other health-related aspects of our lives go. I feel that the way we grew up is a lot more unhealthy on average than the baby boomer generation and others before it. Way more processed food, way less fresh vegetables, poorer quality food overall, and a lot more of a sedentary lifestyle than other generations had, again, on average. I believe this is catching up with us.
Thank you for this video 💪🏿💪🏿
Absolutely...thanks for your comment and for watching!
Thank you for unpacking exercise science in a short video. I have a 2 year client that I do massage on and she stopped training which time her body felt flaccid/fatty. When I first had her I felt muscle but it’s crazy how fast someone can lose lean muscle and gain body fat.
Thanks for your comment! Yeah the more I learn about strength training, the more it appears way more important than I initially realized. Especially since muscle goes away faster with age if not used, I really hope to help people get into resistance training!

also you should never buy the new nokia ones, those are just the reskins of the chinese aliexpress phones, with the prices jacked up

@BenjaminConnelly-f2k that's great. And yes, I agree with you regarding the texting. Although I'm used to slow texting, it does feel burdensome sometimes.

So essentially what you're saying is we have to pick our struggle. One will help us and one will hurt us.
Yeah that's sorta what I'm saying. It appears that if we don't choose to get uncomfortable in our pursuit of something, we'll end up being uncomfortable in a way that we didn't choose.
@@shawnb2bfitness thats a veey jolting statement. I have to now choose better.
@@Ehhmm yes, definitely something to make you rethink things!!!
I am into basic calisthenics. Push ups and squats after work every other day for the past 2 years. I gotta say I love this manly thing of maintaining a record in pen. I do it in my phone but I prefer your method. Also, keep pushing man! Basic clean push-ups build so much strength.
Thanks for your comment. Your routine of every-other-day push-ups and squats for 2 years is awesome. Calisthenics have been great for me over the years! And yeah, I prefer handwritten journaling since I've done it for so long.
keep up the good work man
Appreciate it!
Diet positive attitude also different variables from working out with other people who do nothing but push ups. Hang in there my brother, you will overcome your mental blocks.
Hey, thanks. Yeah the chair dips and tiger push-ups that I'm doing now are making a noticeable difference in my triceps muscle without causing me shoulder pain, so I'm definitely excited about that. That, and also making sure my volume is high enough (something I realize I didn't pay enough attention to in years past).

Congrats. I need to throw in some 135 AMRAP into my routine. If you keep at it you can get 50 reps in no time.
I appreciate it. Yeah, I think I'm gonna incorporate more AMRAP weighted stuff here and there to periodically test myself since I do only calisthenics. I'm definitely not concerned about maxing out these days like I may have been in my teens/20s. And yeah, 50 reps will really be something!

135 lb Bench Press Number of reps - 14 (I had bout 1-2 more in me but I had no spotter) My weight - ~177 Other details - I bring the bar down until it's about 1-2 inches from my chest so that my elbows don't go past my back since that causes shoulder issues for me. Oh, and remember, I don't lift weights; I usually do push-ups and dips and stuff 👀) Post your stats below!
2 questions, do you have any problems with range of motion and does you shoulder still make popping/clicking sounds?
Thanks for your questions! No, I don't have any problems with range of motion that prevent me from doing the exercises I enjoy the right way. I will say, though, that I have a little stiffness with external rotation with the shoulder I dislocated that I need to stretch out more. Again, it doesn't affect my exercises at all, though. And no, my shoulder doesn't pop or click. It did a little in the months after my dislocation when I resumed exercising, but now, it doesn't at all, thankfully.

A good way to progress is to do pull ups whenever you pass by your pull up bar so your body gets used pull ups.

If you knew that eating way more vegetables would dramatically improve your health and reverse your health issues, would you do it? Let me know below! 👇🏿
Yes!! In fact, I have been plant based for 40 days now. I’m learning different recipes now.
@@ericawhitfield7876 40 days is great! Yeah, that will definitely help you see a lot of the really good creative plant-based dishes out there. There's a whole lot you can do with vegetables.
No because you can't reverse health issues through plant based dieting alone. It's a incomplete macro and micro nutrient diet which often leads to malnutrition and or secondary complications of malnutrition which is why most patients end up return to a animal I aspired diet. Now Keto or Carnivore sure but plant based or I creasing plant based foods which increases your level of phytochemicals and antinutrients... No thanks.
So many years later surely your shoulder can manage dead hangs if you're able to do pull ups and other such exercises? Just dislocated my shoulder 2 days ago, hope to not give up dead hangs forever. Thanks for the alternatives
Thanks for your comment. Yeah, I probably could, but I just have opted not to do it right now. That may change, though. Main thing I was concerned with was getting back to the pull-ups/chin-ups. Keep hope alive! Take your time and have a great recovery!
Thank you, taking my time may be the hard part @shawnb2bfitness
Love your statement "It's called working with what you have". Thank you for demonstrating that you do not need fancy equipment or gym memberships to do a great workout!
Absolutely!
Really enjoyed this video! I have a question, what is your thought on 45 days to break a habit? By this I am asking by doing exercise or eating healthy for something for 45 days that it will build that habit and thus helping with motivation?
Thanks for your comment! I believe that 45 days of consistently working on a new habit is great. I always recommend that people work on a new habit for at least one month, based on my personal experience adopting new healthy habits, primarily to see how it works for the body, so 45 days definitely seems like a good idea to me.
@@shawnb2bfitness Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate. I volunteer in men groups and have worked with addicts, and this is where I had heard about the 45 days to change a habit and watching this latest video brought that back up. I have been a fan since I found your video where you ask if tech tools doing auto correct and auto fill are hurting us or not and I have to agree that it isn't helping at the very least. @@lesterlewis3024 Awesome. Thanks for staying tuned!
I also dislocated my shoulder while swimming it's already been 6month I feel ok while doing chin ups but little uncomfortable and pain when i hang for pull-up. Pls reply
Thanks for your comment...I think you just gotta listen to your body and avoid hanging too much. It may still be healing. I avoided pull-ups for a long time just because I knew they put the shoulder in a more vulnerable position, but I eventually added them back. Hope this helps!
From Indonesia. Even your video is so brief, but what u said & explained are so encouraging for me. I also dislocated my right shoulder 1 year ago due badminton accident. Still doing my therapy, however, sometimes I lose my spirit to heal my not-yet normal right shoulder. Thank for your positive sharing.
Thanks for your comment! Yeah, I definitely understand your discouragement. Just stay focused on improving and strengthening your shoulder and try not to focus on how long it might take to recover. You'll get it!
