Vortex tie back Test.
Using the Vortex as an anchor frame for a ground controlled skate block. Testing tie back of the Vortex. Vortex being used as a high directional. Leg movement is from the raising of the load. A COD pulley was placed at the head of the Vortex and was setup as a skate block down to a Petzl MAESTRO that was used as the lowering device and progressive capture. The tie back of the Vortex was first done with an AZTEK and then with a single 1/2 static rope and 8mm prusik. Both test used a load cell between the tie back and the anchor. The load was 195 pounds. The max loading was 236 pounds and this was during the raising of the load using a 3:1 MA.

Clove Hitch on Stokes Basket
มุมมอง 266ปีที่แล้ว
This short video was done to show how I tie clove hitches around the top of a stokes basket for a low angle lower or raise. Not shown is the finished loop using a bowline. This is just one option to use, there are others. You need to find something that works for your team.

LDH Large Diameter Hose Limitations
มุมมอง 246ปีที่แล้ว
This video is intended to illustrate some disadvantages and issues associated with using LDH or Large Diameter supply hose unsupported connected to a hydrant. I go over the basic friction loss formula to work backwards to determine the approximate available GPM based on the pressure in the water main and the friction loss in the 5-inch supply hose.

Would you use 2 z rigs to get stokes up to victim and then change it over to a lower by just keeping the clutches?
Yes, we could use two or just one 3:1's or even just a 1:1 to haul the basket up, then change over to a lower.
Very Boring, so on par for firefighter classroom training. Thanks John.
Think you meant 1 1/8
Jason, I believe you are referencing the one nozzle where I said it was a 1 3/16 inch. If that was the case, I did not miss speak. I was referencing a 1 3/16 inch tip for a 2 1/2 inch nozzle. Here is a good article that speaks to the advantage of the 1 3/16 inch nozzle (www.hydrant2nozzle.com/1-316-nozzle) If you were referencing something else could you be more specific so I can make the correction. However, thanks for watching the video.
@@johnnovaktr2fd677 Chief, I could have sworn that when I watched the video the other day that your 2.5" example showed a 1.25" tip at 265. All good with 1 3/16 tip idea, we've played with that as well as the 1-1/16 Shupe tip for 2" lines! Thanks for the video.
Dual Pumping has been actively used by the San Antonio Fire Department for over 23 years. (Since April 1, 2000) Results in numerous safety and efficiency benefits.
Excellent video! I am currently studying for my c16 this is exactly what I was looking for.
Awesome me too find anything else helpful ?
Liked, subscribed and shared your video and channel
Thank u heros people dont know the work fireman have to do to be ready.
Thanks for the video.
Please tell me there is a second video coming from this fire? Good operation!
This is the only dashcam video that the chief gave me. Fire was knocked down and extinguished with the 2 1/2". Some roof deck fire was extinguished with the tower.
THANK YOU!
john Novak TR2FD ... How does water get to the 1,000' level from sea level? Certainly, with gravity, it would take tremendous amount of pressure to pump water to that level. My thought is there would have to be reservoirs at graduated levels to pump water from one reservoir to another. for example, each floor of the World Trade Center was about 1 acre. The demand on water would be such there must have been several direct pumps to satisfy restroom, restaurant and sprinkler needs. I would also like to "think" if you pumped water to the 10th floor reservoir then the 20th floor etc. the weight of the 20th floor could use gravity to service the lower floors. As the holding tanks become depleted they would be refilled not unlike a toilet holding tank. The Roof of the WTC would hold a reservoir with water flowing down under pressure. Sea water is about 1 ton per cubic yard.
ok.. but why post over an hour of clear air garage for no reason? cut the vid down to just the smoke.
Why do you suggest shutting down the fire pump once the FDC has been supplied? Is this your department’s SOP?
Steve, the fdc is connected to the system up stream of the fire pump. There is usually a check valve between the fire pump and the distribution side of the system. Once the FD connects to the system we usually pressurize the system at a higher pressure than the fire pump. This would close the check valve and the fire pump would be running at "Churn" (no water flowing). If the fire pump is not set up to shut off if running at churn then possible damage could occur. It is important to know your buildings and systems in your response area.
Very good explanations!
Who didn't like the video smh always 1 hater
Pro tip; attach a 3 inch line from the hydrant to the second Engine to maintain the residual pressure that the hydrant can provide. Re-enforce all hydrants by attaching 2 1/2 Gate Valves.
This is excellent if you are studying the IBC and want to have an understanding of these systems.
