Taking a look at the Box Turtle automated filament changer, Part 1
มุมมอง 8Kหลายเดือนก่อน
So many filament changers, so little time! We're starting a build of the Box Turtle by Armored Turtle- it's an open source automated filament changer that swaps filament using a motorized respooler. This means you don't need to use a filament buffer to take up the excess when filament is retracted from the printer. We'll take a look at the major components of the system and how they work, as we...

Where do you buy the kit? Can't find it on the website. Is it still available?
got my installed but it does the mesh and the purge line then start the print but stops saying extrude below temp. so it stops there.
no matter how i install KAMP i have moonraker issue and will not connect, it used to run fine
Really look forward to the Part 2! This is a very helpful video, thanks a lot!
This looks like a great option, but for that price point, i would rather wait for the btt VVD to come put, already built and by what they have said might be cheaper than just the kit of the box turtle without the printed parts, 500 plus with printed parts is a bit too much
Seems like a motorized version of filamentatlist
Can't wait to see this actually working, good luck
Would it be worth lining the 4 extruders up so they point at the hub to minimise the amount of curves that the filament has to go through?
Subbed. i cant wait to see this thing in action.
Love mine, they are awesome, the best opensource mmu so far imho.
Trident needs a stealthchanger equivalent
I tested polydryer and it would not go above 55 c. I sent it back
MineTurtle!
nice
How does the filametrix work with the reaper hotend? I don't see how there's space with the long ducts. Can't wait to see the series continue as I prepare for my kit.
I dont beleive Reaper has a filament cutter option. It was mentioned a while ago, but it never actually appeared. You may need to go back to a toolhead that supports pre / post extruder filament switches and a cutter for now... (Like a StealthBurner)
@@EricDraven79 I'm using the Dragon Burner, but the video author previously showed building the Reaper toolhead in preparation for this project.
So many MMU's coming out! Exciting times! Can't wait to see this running.
Im printing parts for it now! Absolutely stoked on this, i have 2 p1s and the ams has been a game changer for 3d printing for me. My primary concern with this project is the fact that they claim open source yet release no pcb files. I understand they dont want clones, but im tired of people saying open source and not understanidng what thay means. I will juat design a pcb from the schematic they relased i suppose, but it goes against the spirit of it when you cant take their files and make it yourself
Can Milo V1.5 do 3d surfacing? A lot of mills on the market can do 2.5D and they can't machine curved surfaces on Z axis.
I misses the live but watch it on replay amazing Box Turtle really works well
I missed it too. I had a concert that I was in that I could miss. :)
Nice project. What is the minimum bed size to print the Box Turtle parts?
waiting for next layer to do his nice to see how it works great breakdown I want to make one myself I especially like the aluminum extrusions for the frame it's nice. I see the colors on the site are amazing for the order non dyi version.
You should try the open alphas next. You can find the cans on thingiverse. Highly recommend the 3.5mm version on thingiverse over the original.
Will there be plans for a 5 spool board or will it be like the Bambu AMS where you just need to get another kit to have up to 8 spools
These sound way too good to be 3D printed. There's a couple of remixes in thangs that make the open back versions easier to print with different patterns (gyroid, diamond, voronoi)
how are the heatsets dark grey in color? are those just anodized like that or are they a different material
waiting on a 5 spool kit to fit on top my 350mm voron. any word?
I'm curious about how it'll handle the "poop."
klipper HI AMS hi can i come in? Klipper yes you can ! AMS ok im coming
start 00:05:00
What are you doing to address the change in "spool" dia. as the amount of filament changes in regards to the spool drive wheels and their speed? Without some solution in place, this could be a source of a "tangled up" mess!
Great video, as always. Is there a continuous PTFE path from the entry point of the respooler to the motor, or do you have to lift up each lane to do the initial spool load?
There's a section of PTFE that goes from the bottom of the respooler to the extruder. I'm going to wait until I'm futher along in the build to install that. No lane lifting required!
I'm interested, but not at that price.
what price range would you want for an open source AMS?
@@jerrysmith6798 175 for a 4 color kit.
If it works, worth the price. But it almost reaches pallet level price which probably would be more reliable. The issue i had from one of the open source project was retraction and basically the filament would jam it my extruder not being able to leave. For this price you'd expect it to work flawlessly. I am following this channel since I am also looking for a solution with klipper and am interested in his end result and will then commit to 3MS or this one.
250 bucks is nothing, 3d printing reliably is not a cheap endeavor.
Do you need a filament cutting tool head or no?
It's highly recommended. The least likely to leave strings in the hot end. There is a mod for a cutter on the back of the box. Tip forming is an option of last resort.
Nice! Missed that the spooler is also a filament sensor. Prompts the extruder to take filament from you. Makes loading super easy. Look forward to seeing more!
The LDO kit is so good!! Tomorrow mine gets powered up 🎉
I have an LDO kit on preorder and am starting to print some parts in anticipation.
I'm waiting for a 5 lane board... I seen someone on Discord make one and now I can't unsee the logic of 4 when 5 fits perfectly on top of a Voron 2.4 350
Voron also have 250 and 300 sizes.
@Nuttavoot are you serious 😮 how did you come by this information 😂😂😂
I think projects like these need to just go for broke and toss in a bunch of uninstalled optional headers for real flexibility. Nobody wants to be setting up multiples of these, it needs to all be down to one AUX MCU to control 16 possible filament paths. Pay just a bit more for PCB space now, or plan for daisy chaining.. and you won't need 4 different USB devices to not only plug in somewhere, but also get confused which is which when addressing them in the future.
@@Rooboticsit can be extended like that, watch the box turtle videos
I order mine from your website... Excited to get my hand on this filament changer system 👌🤙
Because 5 lanes only fits on a 350 What about the hundreds of other machines out there. And most multi color models out there are 4 or less colors because the dominating brand in this space, has 4. Gotta make a call somewhere.
Useless for now . To much trouble with very little benefit but maybe that will change in a few years.
Thanks for the video. Been in the process of swapping out my XOL for a reaper and you've helped answer a few questions I had.
what ebb36 mount is this? Looks better than the one in the Reaper STL folder.
Picked up a pair or those vyndr 5015 for my new reaper and they're crazy. When they kick in its a literal turbo charger.
I purchased a BTT pi 1.12, that acording to the manufacturer is equivalent (even better) than a RPI 3b... MY ASS! It's pure crap, setting up the OS was horrible, the stability is a **** shit and the optimization of the OS is horrible also... Dont buy cheap chinese clones garbage, just go for a RPI. Im running kliper with no issues in RPI3b even in old smartphone with linux deploy without problems.
how are your input shaper graphs lookin ? i got the exact same setup ( im just using their new carriage system) and with the wwg2 with dual sensors ( filament inserted ) i get terrible input shaper ghraphs and belt tension graphs, if i move to a sherpa mini i have good graphs again, somethin is off here
might be the 5mm balls doing that, they are loose in there
@@nathan22211 with filament in it i got terrible results and only on reaper moving to xol, a4t or archetype the inputshaper looks normal again, so its 100% a reaper issue some others had the same issues with that toolhead, the steelballs are not moving when filament is inserted
Love the app! Greetings from Hamburg
Really respect your business, such a solid resource for custom built printers. Pricing is great, shipping is great - awesome to see! Thanks for the sucker as well
So good! Turned out amazing ❤
Thanks for the thorough guide, we're glad you like it!
I like your intinity palm tattoo (the aleph-null)! Nice taste=)
Already downloaded the files. Thanks a lot! Any change community could get a „universal hotend mount“ to Substract my hotend (cleality spider Pro V3) plus the nozzle tip location to match the fanducts. Thanks
When filament cutter???!! Just kidding, I know it’s on the to do list.
Same here. I'm definitely interested in this, but I'll stick with my dragon burner until I see a filament cutter added for the reaper.
