No talking. Just walking.
A walk up Yeavering Bell
This walk up Yeavering Bell in Northumberland starts in the market town of Wooler. The route partly follows the long distance footpath St Cuthbert's Way from the town centre out to the hillfort, heading through woodland to open moorland and passing other Iron Age hillforts along the way.
The twin peaks of Yeavering Bell are encircled by the walls of a late Iron Age hillfort, a tribal centre for the Votadini; within the walls 125 roundhouses have been identified. From the cairn at the summit the route heads back to Wooler along the northern edge of the Cheviots above the valley of the River Glen and River Till.
It was a very windy day when I took this walk, so apologies for the wind noise.

A walk up Rubers Law
มุมมอง 165หลายเดือนก่อน
This walk begins in Denholm, a planned village from the 17th century designed around its village green. The route leaves the green and heads up a wooded valley, Denholm Dean, following roads and farm tracks, and crossing fields to reach the rocky summit of Rubers Law. The top of this prominent conical hill is the remains of a volcanic plug formed from magma that solidified in the vent of a larg...
A walk in the Borders - White Coomb
มุมมอง 922 หลายเดือนก่อน
This walk up White Coomb, the highest of the Moffat Hills, begins close to the head of Talla Reservoir, rather than the more popular start near the Grey Mare's Tail in Moffat Dale. The route ascends the steep slopes of Garelet Hill and then follows a smooth grassy ridgeline of rounded tops such as Erie Hill and Garelet Dod on the west side of the hollow of Games Hope. After crossing Games Hope ...
A walk in the Borders - Hart Fell
มุมมอง 1653 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hart Fell is one of the taller of the Moffat Hills in the Southern Uplands. This route to the smooth, rounded summit begins in a layby on the A708 and heads up the glen of Blackhope Burn past the remains of 19th century sheepfolds. After a steep walk up the upper reaches of the glen the summit of Hart Fell, a Corbett, is reached along a broad ridge. From the trig point and cairn the route heads...

The route heads down to Coldingham Sands with its beach huts and along the cliff to the village of St Abbs (originally called Coldinham Shore until the late 19th century). A walk along the River Tweed between Horncliffe and Norham
มุมมอง 864 หลายเดือนก่อน
This walk begins in the village of Horncliffe on the English side of the River Tweed. The route heads downstream to visit the Union Chain Bridge, which links England and Scotland. When it opened in 1820 this was the longest wrought iron suspension bridge in the world. It was designed by Royal Navy Captain Samuel Brown and has recently been re-opened after an extensive restoration. The walk then...
A walk in the Borders - Deuchar Law and the 'Raxed Thrapple'.
มุมมอง 1574 หลายเดือนก่อน
Deuchar Law is one of the Manor Hills and supposedly has great views from its smooth rounded summit, but not this time. The walk to the top starts in Kirkhouse and follows the valley of Quair Water, known as The Glen. The route passes Glen House, seat of the Tennant family, and the memorial to two of their sons who both died of AIDS related illnesses. Once past Loch Eddy the walk heads up a qui...
A walk in the Borders - Bodesbeck Law and Bell Craig
มุมมอง 455 หลายเดือนก่อน
This walk starts at the end of the public road in Ettrick Valley near Potburn. The route heads up the slopes above Longhope Burn and through the commercial forest plantations out onto the grassy hillside to ascend Bodesbeck Law, via Bught Hill. Bodesbeck Law is one of the Ettrick Hills, located between Moffat and Selkirk, in the Southern Uplands. After visiting the small cairn on the summit the...
A walk in the Borders - Pykestone Hill
มุมมอง 585 หลายเดือนก่อน
Pykestone Hill is one of the Manor Hills - also known as the Tweedsmuir Hills - a small group of smooth, rounded grassy summits south of Peebles in the Southern Uplands. This walk begins in the village of Drumelzier and follows Drumelzier Burn up a heathery ridge to reach the summit and trig point of Pykestone Hill. From here the route follows a circuit of other summits, each barely perceptible...
A walk in the Borders - the Three Brethren
มุมมอง 1596 หลายเดือนก่อน
This walk begins in the village of Yarrowford, west of Selkirk in the Scottish Borders. The route heads north-east out of the village passing the ivy-covered ruin of Old Broadmeadows, and crossing damp moorland to reach the summit of the Three Brethren. This hill marks the point where the boundaries of three estates, Buccleuch, Yair and Selkirk Burgh, meet; and three cairns were reputedly built...
A walk up Peniestone Knowe, Ettrick
มุมมอง 326 หลายเดือนก่อน
This walk starts from the car park just below the monument to James Hogg, the poet, novelist and friend to Walter Scott known as the Ettrick Shepherd. The route follows a path along the edge of the Loch of the Lowes (maybe used by the poet himself) to the small hill of Pikestone Rig before heading up the ridge to Peniestone Knowe. From there the route heads south-east to pick up the Southern Up...
A walk in the Borders- Ettrickbridge and Kirkhope Tower
มุมมอง 487 หลายเดือนก่อน
The route of this walk forms a figure of eight, with the village of Ettrickbridge at the intersect. From the village centre the route heads north up the slopes of Kirkhope Hill to the Kail Cairn, just north of the summit. Heading south-west through the gorse Kirkhope Tower comes into view. This pele tower, now privately owned, was probably built in the early 16th century and was once home to Wa...

This walk begins in Selcoth in the valley of Moffat Water about five miles north of the old spa town of Moffat. The walk follows this route into the plantation forests around Ettrick He...
A walk around the Devil's Beef Tub
มุมมอง 4058 หลายเดือนก่อน
This walk begins in a layby of the A701 north of the small Borders town of Moffat. Here I pick up the Annandale Way and follow that above the Devil's Beef Tub, a 500 foot deep hollow where the Border Reivers used to hide their stolen cattle. The route heads over Annanhead Hill and along Chalk Rig Edge before descending through the Corehead Forest where the Borders Forest Trust have begun restor...

Enjoyable video and a lovely walk with a hint of autumn about. I really like this part of the borders, its a treasure trove of ancient settlements and forts. Following the Scottish side of the border sw, I remember Moat Knowe and Woden Law being quite magical places. Cheers
Thank you! I will have to check out Moat Knowe…
Moat Knowe was a little east of the Roman camps at Pennymuir. Cheers @@stephenwalks
Great video, great editing and beautiful scenery. Also lots of useful info. I’m new to hiking and this is an area that I’m trying to explore. Do you know approximately how many miles this walk is?
Yes this walk is just over 9 miles long. Thanks for watching and best of luck with the hiking!
@ that’s great, thanks very much!
Subbed, nice editing style, slick and professional, wishing you well. Harry , flying haggis films TH-cam.
Thanks Harry! Glad you enjoyed it!
That’s a lovely local walk for us. It’s a wonder we didn’t bump into you as we are often up the Law. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we do. Thank you for sharing your day with us😊👍
You’re welcome!
A great walk in fantastic scenery. Camped and walked here in the 70s, it gave us a taste of what the Highlands might be like. We 'climbed' Hang Gill from Capplegill pretending to be mountaineers then up over Swatte Fell to Hart Fell. There was always the wind blowing across the tops. Cheers
Great story, thanks for watching!
Lovely video and what a great walk in from Talla Linfoots. It is great to see the wide open spaces and unique names of the Border hills. Cheers
Thank you!
Stephen walks, Wow, this made my day brighter! Thank you!

Thanks mate. We are heading there 2moz so it's good to see the terrain we are likely to encounter.
Cheers, thanks for watching and enjoy the trip!
This is one of my favourite border valleys, a really lovely walk. And yes, the views from on top are fantastic when its clear. We finished this walk very late one summers day, I still remember the stunning evening light streaming across the hills. Cheers.
Thanks, yes it wasn't a great day for views from the summit!
Thank you for sharing that lovely walk 👍
Thanks for watching!
Lovely borders hills ,please could you tell me how many miles and how long it took? Thank you for sharing.👍
Thanks for watching! It's about 7 miles, and should take roughly 4-5 hours
Enjoyed your video. Lovely views looking down into the Carrifran Burn and across onto White Coomb. Spring kickstarting into life on the hillside, those young trees are beginning to stand out now in Carrifran. Cheers man
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks agood walk were did you park
Thanks for watching, I parked in Drumelzier; there is a small car park next to the burn off a no-through road south of the B712.
What a lovely walk even in February. I have only walked this in summer starting in Drumelzier and coming round down to Stanhope. Met a shepherd on horseback that day on the reivers track along the top. Great landscapes all around although there were no turbines then. Cheers
Thanks for watching! I met some fellow walkers on the way up Pykestone Hill but didn’t see a soul (not even a shepherd) until I was on the path alongside the Tweed.
☹️ Promo sm
Very nice impression, thx for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ive walked around there 20 + times, never bumped into anyone. That’s the best thing about it.
It was pretty quiet when I walked there too. Thanks for watching!
I enjoyed that!. Im thatbway tomorrow. Xan i ask where was the end part with the broken fence across the stream? Thanks
Thanks for watching, glad you liked it! The broken fence and the stream are next to Nether Hindhope, where the route joins the public road back to where I started.
@@stephenwalks brill thanks. Did you park at or near the junction of Tow Ford Centre? Reason I ask is I'm going also soon for a hike. Thanks
I parked on a patch of grass just next to the junction east of the ford itself. Enjoy the hike!
What a brill video Stephen, great editing with natural sounds along the way. I love these border hills and vallieys, they all have nooks and crannies showing some bit of history. This Reiver valley is full of it going all the way back to ancient times. Cheers man.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it
Looks a really nice walk with some good views.
It was, thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video Stephen! Thinking of doing this on Sunday. Where is the best place to park?
Thanks for watching! I parked just off the track south of Blinkbonny wood - I think that’s probably the best place to park. Enjoy the walk!
so lush and beautiful and green. heres all brown and dry.
Yes it was! Thanks for watching!
Great video. Doing this walk tomorrow. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed the walk!
So relaxing to watch 😴

Lovely walk thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
I walked this last weekend and it was very very dry.
Did you pass by a place called Dalchruin along the Ruchill on your venture?
Not on this walk, but I think I passed Dalchruin when I walked up Beinn Dearg from the Glen Artney church car park.
Interessante e suggestivo... Grazie! E Buon Natale! 🌲

Nice video, Beautiful Hills, i’m your fan 🙏
Grazie per le tue meravigliose passeggiate nei posti bellissimi che ci fai vedere. Sono molto professionali e fatte veramente molto bene, sembra di essere lì con te a passeggiare. Inoltre credo che siano anche dei bellissimi documentari storici. Saluti dall'Italia. Thank you for your wonderful walks in the beautiful places that you show us. They are very professional and very well done, it feels like being there with you for a walk. Besides, I think they are also beautiful historical documentaries 👍🏼 Greetings from Italy 🙏🏻
Thank you Vincenzo for the kind words!
Even on a wet day, it’s so beautiful!
I agree, thanks for watching!
Awfully long boat ride.
Thanks for the beautiful walk and for showing us the MacGrego's Cave 🙏🏼
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
I having watched full video yet so I might be being lazy but what's the walking distance from the car park to cave please I'm thinking of going this Friday 2nd June ✌
Lovely, peaceful video. Is that waterfall at Dandi Geo(Gjo) a sheer drop?. I'm a Shetlander and I've never been there! :(
I don't think it's a sheer drop - more a series of waterfalls down to the sea. Thanks for watching!
Lovely walk, but you missed the actual "Grind" at the Grind o da Navir.
Next time!
Thanks for sharing the journey. Such a remarkable structure. Was it rebuilt, or is it original?!
Hi, the broch today stands almost at its original height. It hasn't been rebuilt but I think it has been repaired and 'stabilised' over the years to secure it and make it safe. Thanks for watching!
Interesting place
Fantastic 😍💋 💝💖♥️❤️
So Nice 💘💘💘💘💘💘
