    “There is a cult of ignorance… and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'” - Isaac Asimov

    A decent summary of Saladin's achievements but why no mention of that other great leader Richard The Lionheart who defeated Saladin at The Siege of Acre, decisively routed his army at The Battle of Arsuf and effectively ruined Saladin's reputation as the military greatest leader of the time. Without this part of Saladin's story the account is somewhat one-sided.

    Misconception, Patroclus was Achilles' lover, not his cousin.

    • @emilybarclay8831
      @emilybarclay8831 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They were both. They were first cousins once removed. Incest was common in Ancient Greek myth. Zeus slept with his granddaughters, Hercules slept with his half nephew, and Zeus also slept with his great grandson Ganymede. Being cousins doesn’t mean you weren’t lovers in Greek mythology. Even in actual Ancient Greece, marriage between cousins was perfectly normal

    • @chaching1281
      @chaching1281 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @emilybarclay8831 I was always taught and read they were lovers. The cousins part came from the movie Troy in order to make the movie more palatable to the public. Yes I am aware of incest in ancient Greece, been studying ancient history since college.

    • @emilybarclay8831
      @emilybarclay8831 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chaching1281 then you should be aware that Patroclus’s father was Achilles’s father’s first cousin, making Achilles and Patroclus first cousins once removed.

      @@ris.2000 multiple ancient sources such as the Ancient Greek poet and playwright Aeschylus described them as taking part in the standard Ancient Greek form of sexual and romantic relationship between a man and a younger boy. It was expected for male soldiers ar the time to sleep with younger male comrades in order to teach them how to be men. Hercules also participated in this tradition. Plato himself described their relationship as a model of romantic love, and there were temples dedicated to the two where male lovers would worship together.

    The fact that a "hero" of Islam offered an alternative to mass murder victims to buy their way out of mass murder instead of being murdered proves that Islam is an antiquated belief system if you ask me. That's their definition of mercy? "Give us your beaten rich and we will leave you some survivors?" That would look amazing on the Statue of Liberty.

    Rommel is depicted as a terrible man. And yes, he was a nazi general. But he was also one of the few that didn't like having to persecute the jewish people. Erwin E. Rommel is still one of the best tank generals that had ever lived. This man is generally spoken of for his smart tactics and his devotion to win. He most likely just did it because he wanted to do something he was good at. This man took his own life rather than letting his family live in shame

    They didn’t use crosses in worship and clothing back then. That came later after more false religion invaded. There was no clergy originally and no distinctive garments for older men (elders). They were only Brother as title just like anyone else who was not an elder. Nothing else. Elder was not a title but a role. At first the Scriptures read that Jesus died on a torture stake or pale or tree. Basically a single long post. Only later when connection to a false triune God was concocted was cross incorporated.

    Actually it spread easily because the Greco-Roman gods acted like children, having the worst characters of the human condition. So they might curse you for being to pretty or sleep with your wife, etc, according to their mythology. On top of that no matter how good of a believer you were, you always ended up in hades(hell) land of the dead. Good person & bad alike. Heaven only belonging to the gods & their demigod children. Then Christianity showed up, & the average person learned all you had to do was accept Christ & follow his teachings then you could go to heaven & have eternal joy. Rather than the eternal torment of hades. That’s why Christianity spread. Be the Gods of Rome & Greece sucked. They mean, cruel, & petty, trampled on their followers.
