This channel is not monetized. I created it just for the fun of it. I live in the Mojave Desert of Southern California USA. The content varies from hunting with my metal detector to one of my many camping trips. Sometimes I'll visit a historic location in the Sierra Mountains or some interesting location out here in the Mojave Desert. I have a small Viking Popup camper that serves me well when camping off-grid.
I use a variety of metal detectors. Currently, I'm using a Garrett AT-Pro and a Garrett Pro Pin-pointer. I'm nearly 80 years old now. I'm not able to get out as much as I like. Getting up and down to check on a signal is starting to hurt more and more each year. I'll do my best to make interesting videos. I hope you will take the time to watch them. Also, please subscribe, hit the "Thumbs-Up" button, and make a comment to say Hello. Tell me what part of the world you live in.

Camping in a snow storm
มุมมอง 10Kวันที่ผ่านมา
This was our last camping trip of the 2024 season. It was November, and we got caught in a snowstorm. Snowflakes as big as Marshmallows fell from the sky, but it was a great trip.
I met Big Foot and his brother.
มุมมอง 122หลายเดือนก่อน
I just had to take a ride up in the mountains to have a look at some of my old campsites. I had to miss two camping trips this last summer due to unforeseen circumstances. I hope to make one more trip in November before the snow starts. There is a little surprise at the end of this video.

Our Devil's Fork camping trip
มุมมอง 1.7K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is our first camping trip of 2024. After uploading this video I noticed that there was a misspelled word in one of the captions near the end. I meant to say "Pavement", but typed "Payment" instead. I can't fix it now without losing views and comments. Sorry about that!
Old Gash Family home place
มุมมอง 946 หลายเดือนก่อน
A couple of my subscribers asked me to tell some stories in my videos. So this is the first one. It is about my family history. Perhaps it won't be too interesting to all. But, I want to document this family location and history for future family generations to remember. We all should document our personal family history so that it won't be forgotten when we are gone.
Goodale Creek Camp Out

This is just a short overnight camping trip to my old favorite campground at Goodale Creek. I also had a chance encounter with a herd of wild Donkeys.
Visiting Freeman S. Raymond's 1872 stage stop.
มุมมอง 2919 หลายเดือนก่อน
Freeman S. Raymond built this stagecoach station in 1872. It was the first homestead in the Indian Wells Valley. In 1889 or 1890 a post office was added. In 1909, the Native Americans who were defending their homes and families killed the homesteaders and burned the station to the ground. Very little is left at the site today. But you can still find rusted metal, square nails, broken pottery, a...
Bad Day at Black Rock movie location
มุมมอง 12K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is the site where the outdoor scenes were filmed for the 1955 movie "BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK". There were many great famous stars in the movie, but my favorite is Ernest Borgnine. There is a short clip from the movie on TH-cam showing him getting his butt kicked by a one-armed Spencer Tracy. This was one of the very first movies to show Martial Arts tactics.
Exploring Biledo Meadow and the Biledo Cabins
มุมมอง 81ปีที่แล้ว
The main cabin was built by Joseph Biledo in 1890. Some writings have his first name as "Thomas". The spelling of his last name has been shortened. It is actually spelled "Billedeaux". But that is also somewhat questionable. It is a French name that is pronounced: "Biledo". That spelling is as it appears on modern maps.
Star Lake trail
มุมมอง 201ปีที่แล้ว
This video is mostly for the folks who are interested in going up to the Star Lake overlook and hiking down to the lake. It shows most of the trail up to the top of Mt. Raymond above Star Lake in the California Sierra mountains. The trail is fairly rough in spots and is definitely a four-wheel-drive trail. I'm riding a two-wheel drive Quad which did not have any trouble until I tried to come ba...
"The Lost Spatula" Part 3.
มุมมอง 74ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I live up to my reputation of being able to find things others have lost. In this case, Mark lost a Spatula over 10 years ago at one of his old campsites. I found it! We also explore an old Native American campsite that is probably more than several hundred years old.
"Biscuits and gravy". Part 2
มุมมอง 90ปีที่แล้ว
This video is the continuation story of our last camping trip at Devil's Fork. Part 1 was "On Our Way" and was basically preparation and traveling to the campsite. Part 2 is mostly activities in and around our camp. We also take a Quad ride down to some old abandoned cabins at Biledo Meadows. Part 1: th-cam.com/video/F_bbQSbwTWY/w-d-xo.html
"On our way". Part 1
มุมมอง 136ปีที่แล้ว
This is the first part of our camping trip at Devil's Fork. My son and I often go camping together. I shot over one hour of video. This first part shows the route I took and our arrival at camp. Other videos will show some of the rough Quad trails we explored and a trip up a very rough trail to the top of Mt. Raymond. That trail goes up to the Star Lake overlook at 8,694 feet. We camp in the Sierras in Central California also…nice this time of year, deer season is done and people are afraid of the snow. We tent camp and we love it!!!
Hello. We just stumbled across your channel tonight. Hubby and I are enjoying this video. Hello from Ontario Canada.
Well "Hello" right back to you. And thanks for watching.
When you have the hat on and you’re sitting in the chair, you look exactly like my ex father-in-law. Sounds like him and he even had a camper just like yours he didn’t go up to the high sierra, areas. He went up to Bishop which I don’t think it’s in the high sierras, but I’m not sure. You brought back some good memories for me for a minute, but it brought a smile to me. He’s passed away. He was a great man. Enjoy enjoy. Enjoy
Sir, I stumbled upon your video and I greatly enjoyed it! You got a new subscriber and thank you for service!
Thank you.
You remind me of Ernest Borgnine, he was a camper also
The first time I ever seen that movie bad day at Black Rock was probably back in 82 I've watched that movie so many times I probably 30 times in the last 40 years but you answered my question cuz every time I watch it I wonder if that railroad track was still there cuz that engine pulling is one of l those streamline engines from the 50s seem like it had Union Pacific or Southern Pacific
New 65 year old subscriber, I enjoyed it. 💯👍🇺🇲
Thanks for the sub!
Where is this at thank you
In the Sierra Mountains about 10 miles east of Oakhurst California USA.
You should get a cap for the back of your truck and camp in the bed of your truck and then trailer the ATV. It might be a little bit easier on the truck.
So far, the truck does very well pulling my camper and having my Quad in the pick-up bed. I have the 4.0 engine with plenty of power. I might be installing air bags on the rear to added support though.
Good for you I built a cargo camper conversion but I have not been able to go anywhere . I look forward to see what you get 🇺🇸👍
The new camper is a Sunray 149 Sport. I will be picking it up as soon as this awful California weather lets up.
Excellent
Thank you for your service 🙏 🇺🇲
Oh gosh, this reminds me of when my son and his wife used to join my hubby and I in the high country of Oregon. So beautiful, we had a pop up and they slept in their tent. Thank you for your service, my hubby did 3 tours in Vietnam. God bless and safe travels!
When I stop laughing at you two camping idiots I'll tell you what I liked about this video....😂😂😂😂😂 Beautiful campground! All to yourselves, too! BUT...who the h*ll goes camping in the snow?? You two are addicted!!😅
Great to see Mark with you Don!
Hi, the area is about 8 miles east of Oakhurst California at about the 5,600-foot level. I think you had other questions, but I can't find them now. Do you have my email address?
I believe the reason you slept so good is that you had heat during the night. I leave the heat on during the night when I camp. The days of roughing it are long gone...lol
I agree. I generally sleep very well on these trips. But that particular night the temperature got down into the teens. My feet got a little cold. So at about 1 a.m. I got up and put 2 pairs of sock on. That helped.
@booniebuster4193 I have a diesel heater that I use. It's very miserly on both fuel and my battery. Best money ever spent. I've heard many a camper say that their sleeping bag keeps them warm during the night. It's getting out of the bag and everything in the camper is very cold that gets to me. Ay my age, I want heat..lol. Can't wait to see your and Mark's new campers. We pay for comfort as we age.
I didn't have any place in the Viking to add a diesel heater. And I didn't really want to have to haul a can of diesel up the hill. Just one more thing to pack. You are correct about needing more comfort as we age. I'll be 79 in December.
nice when nobody else is around .nice set up don
Love that movie! Very interesting trip, thanks for taking us along 👍
This is a classic 'knife-edge' film. The tension never stops. Thank you.🫣
ernest borgnine best performance is in THE WILD BUNCH 1969
Yes, I found it very interesting,,,,,, Thankyou very much. Especially how you can get to everything through the "Service Door", instead of drilling holes :)
Great ideas
Thanks for taking us along with you. Good memories for me as I get up the Calvin Crest Christian camp at least once a year.
I think you mean old gas?
Yes those are carbons for a hi intensity light and they did need a generator to power them. The crater formed when it was burned
Thanks!
The white X- The real burial spot for Jimmy Hoffa....
Great video quality, thankyou.
'Staring' Spencer Tracy? You meant 'starring', right? Nice vlog, cool camera work..Intro is too long, but nice research, too!
Darn! I'll correct that spelling if I can find where it is. Where is it?
Nice done
Hello! Very nice presentation! I just saw this posting. I spent two years at NAVWEAPCEN China Lake from '70 -'72 and many days in and around the Lone Pine/Owenyo/Laws/Keeler/Kearsarge areas hunting for railroad artifacts. Most of which I later turned into paperweights and display stands for model railroader friends of mine-"Foamers," if you will. In the opening scene, there are Southern Pacific F-7 A and B units, respectively, in the "Black Widow" paint scheme with some fluted "Daylight" passenger cars. That scene is just to the Northwest of downtown Lone Pine at the river crossing over the remnants of the Owens River South of Owenyo, which is where the old movie set was located. That station may have been Since the standard gauge rail was still in place (even in 1972) up to and including Owenyo, the diesel units would have been "turned" on the wye at Ownenyo as backing the entire train to Mojave was impractical and unsafe. The "tail" of that wye was too short in length to permit anything longer than the locomotive set. In the day, there were some large steam locomotives turned on that wye. The turntable at Owenyo was for narrow gauge locomotives/cars, only. The SP "Mikado" 2-8-2 locomotives frequented the Jawbone Branch. These besties had an overall length of about 80 feet. The F-7 A & B units combined totaled about 100 feet. My late wife and I spent a weekend hiking in and around Red Rocks....and overnight in Tehachapi, where I spent many off-duty hours watching trains at the Loop and enjoying Dutch Crunch rolls with ham, cheese, mayo, mustard, and a "couple" of beers! The Spring Flower Excursion via the SP was a nice trip from Mojave to Bakersfield and back...fun memories! Thanks, again for the fine presentation. The Old Squid
What a great video ........ Bad Day At Black Rock is one of the classics from the 1950s ........ Question .... why and when was the railway tracks removed ?
I don't know when they were taken out. I researched the history of the railroads when I was making this video. But I can't remember the details now.
the wood and remnants almost has to be from the set....
you should set up a screen and watch the movie in this exact spot.... at night
Get some of that wood from the set... make a frame and put a poster from the movie in it.
im with you thisfilm makes my day at black rock a good day. seriously there are such profound issues underlying the story of BAd DAY. when tracy lays the medal down for his fallen japanese buddy i could cry.
What was it? 😂
We never did find out. It seemed to be some kind of water pipe. We have not been back to that location in 10 years now. We didn't have the proper tools to finish the dig.
Don - what is the best way to contact you about all your research re: Earhart? I’m interested in speaking with you. Thank you kindly.
@andrewgold8313 (donrjordan@Yahoo.com) This is my temporary email address. I rarely use it, but it still works. Send me an email to this address and then I will switch you over to my regular address. I don't want to publish the regular address here. I'll keep checking for your message. I can talk Earhart all day!
I have not yet received an email from you for contact purposes. 09/15/2024
They are rods to keep the tent up
My favorites of him emporer of the north. Wild bunch bad day black rock.
What a great film that was. like others on here, watched it on TV back in the day, now have wathed it with my son - he gets it too. Thanks for this video.
I have owned my 3500 for about three plus years. I use it for boondocking instead of the Onan 7500. And it kept outside year round, and it's parked for weeks at a time without starting. I have found that Non-ethonal gas with fuel stabilizer has worked for me. When ever I get to my unit and hit the starter button it starts ever time. In a 5 gal container of non-ethonol I put 2 oz. of stabilizer and it works for me 😊. (1 oz. of stabilizer is the normal but I put 2 , because I may not get to my unit for weeks) ps: My original battery (died) just got replaced with a PN# YTX7LBS.
who wants to have a beer with this amazing person thank you so much !! forgot a young lee marvin anne francis and walter brennan
Outstanding video Don, I've been by that campground many times. Going to have to stop by for a weekend campout, great spot as well. Would also like to hear service stories they never get old for me 👍. Thank you for your service, and welcome home sir.
I'm trying to think of the best way to tell my stories.
Really like watching your off road travels. Keep them coming, and your family camping trips. 👍
We might not be able to go back up there this month. It's deer season. Too many hunters with guns.
Nice ride Don. Keep the videos coming
Thanks 👍
Great video! Looks like a ton of fun and exhausting lol
Yep!
Hey Don,nice vid. I liked the story of flying your plane over Mammoth, just barely. Ha ha. Pismo Paul
It wasn't the smartest thing I ever did in that plane!
It is absolutely wonderful seeing you out and about enjoying your retirement Don! I look forward to your next video! 👍🏼
There won't be any camping trips this month. It's deer season up there. On my one and only deer hunting trip back in 1972 two people in our part were shot by a careless hunter. I can still smell the sickening sweet smell of blood. They both recovered, but just barely.
He said Hawk Tuah right away. 😅
Great video! To bad the critter cam was off!
