Crash Bash Boss Rush TAS [Crash v Cortex]
New Memory Manipulation code exclusive to the PAL version of Crash Bash.

The new Memory Manipulation code disables the boss requirements, allowing you to skip straight to the boss of each warp, beat it, and proceed to the next warp room.
This TAS showcases a battle between Crash and Cortex while they tackle the 4 bosses of Crash Bash. Crash, obviously comes out on top everytime. But in a turn of bravery in the final boss, Cortex takes a red ball to save not only Crash, but a few frames too. Please enjoy.
Sadly, the current code crashes on all crate levels outside of Papu Papu. So no battle to the death to finish. No final victor. No one wins. Just like when you play Crash Bash. You never win.
Improvements from my previous 2 player TAS:
Papu Papu:
Throwing/Kicking boxes so that the Crash clones land on them, causing them to have their hitbox active slightly earlier. Hard to execute, RNG reliant but makes it less of an autoscroller. Could still slightly be improved with more of these.
Bearminator:
Better bear landing positions. All RNG dependent, certainly could be improved with more manipulation attempts.
Big Bad Fox:
Obvious improvement with using the mines in the second phase. RNG manipulation to get mines to spawn is mostly dependent on how many bombs you shoot. Also destroying the beginning middle gun first to avoid lag from a third projectile.
Oxide Ride:
The ride section on Oxide takes longer on PAL unfortunately. Aside from this, with much luck and manipulation, you can score on Oxide deathless with one ball. Don't try this at home. As there is no taunt manipulation possible, it's all dependent on managing your kicks as they the RNG the most, but the penalty for missing consecutive kicks makes it tricky, with a little emphasis on player placement. Also dying to red ball causes the last ball to spawn slightly sooner. I think. Otherwise it's just poetic.

New MM code with new timer glitch which makes Pogos extremely fast. Sadly this specific code caused the game to crash starting Bearminator. Still really proud of some of the stuff I did in this, such as the Pogo a Gogo gem in 20 seconds, and a showcase of Panic levels being completed before instawin becomes available. Stupidly good. Mansion and robot were best I've done each level. Bad jumps in Volcano, unclean Carnival. Otherwise, amazing. I'd like better, and I want to grind more. But it's very difficult. @@Little_Yu-Gi it was made by me, but using slowdown and rewind and frame advance. That way I could make a god tier run. The reason I knew exactly where the powerups were on Drain Bash is because I played the game, saw where they spawned, and then went back and recorded the inputs to go there.

Okay so quick observation. I have something that skips certain parts of video, like sponsors, self promotion, things like that. This thing considers the loading screens of crash bash as content that should be skipped. You wanna know how much the software skips? 1 hour, 24 minutes, and 5 seconds. Meaning that, in this tas, about 1/5th of it's runtime is just loading screens. Runners could save around an hour at the least if they could skip loading screens. Insane.
@abyssalcast3107 you’re not the first to mention this haha, someone else uses the same thing and commented. I’d love to see a video of this excluding all loads. There are a LOT of loads, and since this is on emulator loads are from 1.5x to 2x as long as PS2. There’s a load before and after every collectible/boss, and switching between warp rooms. 140 collectibles, 4 bosses, like 12 warp swaps, totalling 300 loads. Adds up..
I have a few questions for the Crate levels. Is the jump to avoid taking damage frame-perfect or do you have a time window of a few frames? When do you have to jump? When the crate is 'about' to hit you or exactly when the hit would be detected?
@@PinkP0nyPr0ducti0n5 honestly I can’t entirely remember but I believe it was case dependent. I don’t believe it was frame perfect? Can you timestamp where you’re referring to and I can have a look.
@@craigelbagel0012 Snow Bash for example. Dingo shoving the stone box to you at 1:02.54, the moment the splash damage from the box would hit you, you kick another box back, jump and don't get any damage. Was that a dodge? In my experience this for example would be a hit

Props to you my friend, I played this game so much as a kid by myself and with my brother. Fond memories as a Crash fan, so watching someone just absolutely obliterate this game was both satisfying and remarkable! 👌🏼
I remember playing this game without a memory card and trying to start early in the day to complete it before bed time on repeat, getting close but not quite finishing it. Then one day I did finished it. Good memories playing this! I did get a memory card after this experience. 😅
This randomly showed up in my recommended and watched it on 2x speed. I saw that in the discription that you will run this game to iron out the mistakes. What game is next once done? DC Super Villians?
@@spouwnerring I got another PB of this a couple of months ago, 6 hours 55 minutes, but it loses a lot of time in the Planets section so I’d like to go back and beat it again and then upload to YT. What’s next? I’m struggling with finding time to do 100% runs, and I haven’t completed Super Villians (no nostalgia for it either so not much motivation) In an ideal world where I had more time, I’d be keen in doing Lego Marvel Suoerheroes 1 100%. But I really don’t have much idea otherwise, at least in terms of Lego games.
@@craigelbagel0012 Lego Mavel 1 is also good. TBH, I thought that you were only intrested in running DC LEGO games, hence why I asked if you were gonna do Super Villians next.
@@spouwnerring yeah the Marvels 1 is just an option but might not go through with it. The Batman games just have a charm to it I love. But I did play marvel superheroes more than LB3 as a kid funnily enough. The skips in DC Supervillians just doesn’t interest me at this stage but maybe I need to 100% it first to decide.

How can you access extras in story mode?
@@The_Null_Element if it’s on your first play through of the level following the campaign. You don’t have access to extras when entering via the replay story mode, which is part of the reason why we don’t do the any% skip in 100%

@@PuffyOne1898 no Memory Manipulation. There’s a way in this game to change memory values which cause weird glitches that help with the speedrun, like instant wins. I have two other videos on my channel that use it.

Can someone explain what happened in Dot Dash? Why does Cortex win by doing absolutely nothing?
@@PrincessLunaBrite If you scroll through the comments I’m sure I’ve explained it before. But in short it’s getting lap skips by barely bumping Cortex back and forth every frame across the finish line. There’s some jank in how the game reads how you’ve completed a lap and this abuses it. If you watch speedruns of 200%, you’ll often see the AIs getting one or two at the start in the relics.
@@craigelbagel0012 Thanks for the explanation. Do the AIs get lap skips during normal playthroughs? That would be unfair, but I wouldn't be surprised considering it's Crash Bash.
@@PrincessLunaBrite Its another reason why this game is a bit bull yes, relic AI can accidentally get lap skips themselves, usually in 1 player.

Is there a reason you don’t use 2 player to save time?
@@djskillx7008 fair question, I’m just honestly not good at focussing on both players at once to the point where it will often lose me time instead. If someone else wants to run it and do that then I’ll be impressed, but personally I like to route and focus on making 1 player go very fast.
Watching this now (and reading the comments) - I actually have fond memories of this game, even though I'd just consider it a cash grab today. God I hated the pogo minigame though. On that note - seeing that perfect 64 points at 1:38:59 was a thing of beauty.

Your point stands however I believe its the AI that they really made sure you would suffer.

Now that I know as an adult what a nightmare completing this game is, I'm glad I just settled for beating the final boss as a kid. This is such a nightmare that even speedrunners hate it and even the TAS has issues, that's saying something.
Posting this for next time, turns out you dont have to ride the roller coaster, if you hop out after it's started, it should finish the route by itself and still spawn the gold brick.

@@2honey2meme95 according to some commenters, around 4 and a half hours. Makes sense as there are 300 load screens in this run (if my calculations are correct, 2 for each collectible, 2 for each boss, 1 for every time I change warp rooms) and load times on emulator are around 8-10 seconds each. You’ll probably be able to find the comments.
