I have to disagree on the container taxes. Getting 5 cents back (10 in Washington? WOW) is great. All you have to do is save the cans and turn them in. Sure it’s your money, but it’s like a tax refund. It’s really nice to get that money back every few months when you take your empties in. Might even pay for a six pack!

Absolutely agree about expanding your vocabulary and keeping a dictionary handy. Started reading my grandma's Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes stories in 8th grade. Took a creative writing course in 9th. Teacher was impressed and my guidance counselor called me in and told me my vocabulary was at sophomore college level. We have to remember, there was no tv or radio at the time these works were written.

HPL's old stuff is completely fine. Nothing at all wrong with it. The Hound people say is a self-parody. But so what? It's a fun story. That's what matters. Well written. What I like about the old stuff is that almost each story is self contained. When you read the later stories you're vaguely aware that it's all somewhat interconnected... not a bad thing at all. I got a few Del Reys. Good editions.

I gotta get on more Howard, man. My Kobo offers what are called 'megapacks' of multiple works by writers (usually public domain), hours and hours of reading, for .99 cents. Thats how i discovered HPL infact. Theres a Howard one too, im going to nab that soon.

The Del Rey editions are really great. University of Nebraska has put out some cool collections, especially The Black Stranger, which are stories set in America. Cthulhu is on the cover.😂
