What helps when working on an old two stroke ski like this is to have a small bottle full of two cycle gas with a hole in it to spray into the carbs rather than starter fluid. Also being that these old skis run off of a mechanical fuel pump, if it hasn’t been run in a while and there is no fuel in the lines it will take a very long time for the ski to prime on its own and suck gas through the lines from holding the starter, so what’s best is to keep it running for long enough by squirting gas into the carbs for the ski to prime itself without having to put constant strain on the starter

Before you attack another boat. I would suggest you go down to any boat place. And get the inboard outboard wire diagram book from clymer. The 66 to 89 book is really good.

No don't restore if you don't want lots of attention! I restored a finned boat from the 50s. I can't go out in it that I don't get smiles and thumbs up from every other boat I pass!

By mixing those two together you are canceling there chemical reaction,just use lysol and it will work...

Should have just blocked the back corners of the trailer and jacked up the tongue… both tires come off the ground at the same time and trailer stays level.

That was ur pulse line from engine to fuel pump on first carb only.the very first line u tugged!!dam that is one clean engine n bay ur lucky most are oily messes.keep going and get rid of gray lines they break down over time.owner vxr-650 snooky pa.

I'm pretty sure I would have left that in the barn.

Also, you can bench test the gauges by hooking up the red and green wires on the 4 pin connector to 12v + and black to - to power up the display without having to plug into the ski.

The fuel does not get pushed it gets sucked by the fuel pump on the motor. Your checking it wrong you have to check it after the pump going to the carburetors

I had a 1978 800 looks like yours. Every wire in the motor was completely eaten up and green. The wire to the solinoid you asked about was 18 ga but 16 waould be fine.

FYI. On the bottom of the coupler there is a bolt that goes to the latch that attaches to your trailer ball. You can adjust the with from 1 7/8 to 2 inches. I wouldn’t recommend doing it all the time , but in a pinch it works

I personally hate those fuel/water separators, they’re just junk. You can just put a regular fuel filter for like a lawn mower to replace it. I would also recommend adding in a fuel primer ball just after the filter. You just give it a couple pumps and It’ll make the cold starts 10x easier.

Just some word of advice, you want to start the engine first and then hook up the water to it. Never run water through it without it running because I could back up from the exhaust and run into the engine.

Just came across your Wave Raider project. It is tough watching your videos, especially trying to get the carbs out because it brought back memories of my first sea doo. I didn't know anything about jet skis, had no help, and youtube videos and message boards didn't always answer my questions or deal with my particular issue. I had the same concern of opening up the carbs and engine for fear I would really mess things up. So, it is encouraging to see you keep going and figure things out on your own, many just quit and give up. I'll move on to episode 4 and 5.

Great video, love your determination! I’m changing our cable out this Friday. Same scenario, the tilt tube doesn’t line up with the hole below the deck. I cut the old one off as u did, got the part # and ordered the new one. I have a loader on my tractor that will probably assist with my lift. I have a merc 115 4 stroke

You need to have shorty 12mm bx wrench to fit in the carb bolts
