    Thank you! I couldn't finish it - I was so frustrated with the characters because they were all so shallow. I think the one genuine thing they all said was how people reveal their true selves during the war, and I didn't appreciate or sympathize for anyone. I'm so grateful for you telling me the end. I'm glad I gave up - that storyline sounds ridiculous. You get a Like and Subscribe 😊

    The plot underwhelmed. That's the beauty of novels, though, because half the battle is already won with great delivery. Nice and lean, kept me riveted. I read slow if I can help it, but just couldn't with this. The mark of effective writing. Finished in three days, couldn't put it down. I'll consider adding him to my rotation. 3 out 5

    1:25 Believe it or not, Brothers Grimm DID work on a variant of Beauty and the Beast from part of their collection called "The Winter and Summer Garden" where the youngest daughter asks for a rose in the middle of winter and finds one in a garden that's half eternal winter and half eternal summer. After making the deal with the Beast, he doesn't tell his daughters about anything that happened. 8 days later, the Beast appears and takes the youngest daughter away. When she returns home, her father is ill as she can't save him, and he eventually dies. She stays longer for her dad's funeral and when she returns to see Beast, he's buried beneath a heap of cabbages. (Sounds familiar?) This tale was in the Brothers Grimm collection's first addition in 1812. But because the story was too similar to it's original French story, they omitted it from later editions.

    I liked this video, but feel like the show merits revisiting now that it has ended. I never read the book but have watched a few comparison videos. The biggest thematic difference (to me) seems to be that they (Kate/Tully) seem more like true friends in the show. Kate's occasional jealousy of Tully is there, but it doesn't seem to be like what the book portrays it to be. Also, Johnny seems to always be into Kate in the show, and his fling with Tully is a drunken one-night stand after he realizes Kate is with someone else. The show definitely ripped off This Is Us with it's time-shifting narrative, but it's still a fun ride. I do feel like it ended abruptly. The last few episodes had flash-forward scenes to 10 years after Kate's [spoiler], but didn't come back to it at the end. That was kind of wierd. I'm curious to investigate if the book goes further into this.

    • @bookclubbullies3011
      @bookclubbullies3011 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're right, I should definitely finish the series and see how the finished series compares to the book. There is kind of a sequel book called 'Fly Away' that follows Tully four years after Firefly Lane ends. Maybe that has more answers!

I know a lot of people who grew up reading the “classics” in high school are not a fan of them now for a myriad or reasons (don’t know if that is your case or not lol) but I think that the book has gotten a lot of hate and some overarching bits a alot the book have been beaten to a pulp in our social sphere. Like the term big brother or saying this is Orwellian/ like 1984, which all diminishes the importance and meaning behind the book.
