zabutom & dubmood - track tracking (2024)
Going online only for a moment each night with our 56k modems, sending chiptunes via DCC transfer was an ideal way to collaborate because of the small filesize and elite speed composing skillz..
Now we're still at it, just for the sheer fun and style of it!
This tune started it's journey one cold winter day riding the trams of Gothenburg city. I had a sudden flash of inspiration and just had to pull up the trusty old laptop with Fast Tracker 2 from my backpack to quickly write this banger of an idea down, in the middle of the crowded tram.. I got home and sent it to dubmood who immediately started adding his magic to it, and during the next few days we had a blast sending it back and forth.
It ended up getting 2nd place in the Revision 2024 "tracked music competition", and now we are proud to present the single, available on all streaming platforms.. !

Nice! Very similar to the version we had on the Mac Performa 550 that was the families first computer back in '93. I remember players we had, Soundtrekker and PlayerPro, and how wild it was to us that the files were small enough to acquire over dial-up in a reasonable amount of time.

A long time ago, I wanted to make a video game, but I wasn't sure what I wanted it to be about / be like for the longest time. The very first time I listened to this album though, literally almost the entire game just like, built itself in my head. I always imagine the credits of said game rolling over this song. Such a fantastic album, and this song is definitely one of my favourites.
It took me back in time to when I would spend sleepless nights sharing warez, cracking and hacking knowledge, using IRC, FTP, reading the NEWS... Every night was an adventure. Great tune! 👌

If you refer to better for collaboration or no, then yea, at least at a distance. Dumping and flashing a save was a hassle with different obscure hardwares, different versions of LSDJ are not compatible, and emulators were not good enough for LSDJ yet. FT2 has the XM format which just works..
