Hello everyone, I'm Nic the DM. I travel the multiverse of Dungeons & Dragons to bring you the best and most detailed lore videos I can, as well as occasionally converting old statblocks into 5th Edition D&D. If you enjoy deep delves into the lore of the D&D worlds, planes, monsters etc. Why not check out some of the videos I have for you to enjoy?
D&D's Elemental Dragon of Air and Water
A shorter video to teach my players not to tempt my when it comes to monsters. Today we take a look at the Dragon Eel, a race of planar dragons from the Elemental Chaos. The little animated portion is something I have wanted to do for quite a while, though it was a long process. I may do more like it in the future but probably shorter and (hopefully) better quality. Anyways, enjoy!

It's time for more Celestials! In this video I bring you a complete coverage of the Asuras, one of the 5 major groupings of celestial, known as "True Celestials". These chaotic good beings from the Upper Planes are fierce, loyal, and pretty interesting all around! Dungeons & Dragons: Celestials (A Complete Guide)
มุมมอง 5K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
WOW! This video took way too long! Not just because of the research but life has been hectic recently. Anyways, the fiends of Dungeons and Dragons get a LOT of focus, mostly because many players are trying to be "heroes", but the consequence of this is is that the Celestials of the Upper Planes are left out of the spotlight. WELL NO LONGER! Today I present to you a complete guide to all things ...
The Dungeons & Dragons CANON is confusing
มุมมอง 1.3K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome to a video I've had in the back of my mind for months now and I finally had a chance to work on. Presenting, the convoluted D&D canon! We're looking at all the angles, from Wizards of The Coast official Blog posts to the minds of the biggest creators and authors of Dungeons and Dragons! From the generic multiverse, to the Forgotten Realms, Eberron, and... honestly, that's it. Not much i...

THANK YOU ALL FOR 1000 SUBSCRIBERS!! To celebrate I've made this special video in which I make Elminster's Snail and Slug paste sandwiches from the novel "Elminster in Hell" by Ed Greenwood. This video was awkward for me as I don't have much experience in filming and I didn't have much equipment, but I hope you enjoy! #dungeonsanddragons #dnd #dnd5e #books #fantasy #food #cooking

More than halfway through the Demon series, we are finally covering what the Fiendish Codex 1: Hordes of the Abyss considers the ultimate demon weapon, Demonic Possession. With December nearing, how would video on Island Giant sound for December ( The release month of Ray Harryhausen's *The 7th Voyage of Sinbad* )?
I honestly forgot about these giants. And I didn't even know they were based on The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. I'll take a look and see what I can do!
Rule #1 in dnd :" don't give the frustrated DM ideas on how to deal with the inevitable shenanigans that you will eventually cause"
Am a fan of the lower planes, but i appreciate a nice well done educational celestials video...please keep going my good sage...this knowledge well be used wisely by my fellow fiendish friends 😈
The 4e backstory for the Prince of Demons was.... convuluted. I prefer the underdog story, simple, concise, can actually explain it to my players without needing to info dump for 20 mins. Also shard of evil sounds so juvenile, it was clearly written with edgy teens in mind.
love the 3.xe version. want to make a model of one at some pt.
that black box and the immortals rules, etc are not 1st edition. those are what we generally call basic.
Ok im messing w this channel thanks i had to keep rewinding it to get a more clear understanding
Your work should be allowed in Candlekeep. Well done sir.
Such high praise! Thank you!
@11:22 did he say “Zolit”?
Went back to check, it was the Zovvut.
Where is the abyssal chicken
Strangely enough I didn't hear anything about them in the generic demon lore.
@nicthedm7650 probably because there was no survivors to tell about it
tats literally gods
❤ your videos
I dunno, aesthetic is subjective of course, but I always liked the idea of the low-ranking ones starting out simple, silly & steampunky looking, & then they get more complex/intelligent/scary/cool as you go up the ranks. So I would definitely expect the hierarchs to be sleek & futuristic but the monodrones probably shouldn't be this cool. It can only do 1 task at the time, after all (the higher ranked, smarter ones break down the orders & give them to the unerlings in simpler terms, so the low-ranked workers don't fully understand what they're doing or why, they just carry out their orders) So if playing them as adorably literal-minded isn't your thing, you could still have them be simple but play it for horror - playing up the unrelenting, automatic, mindlessly obedient aspect. In the end I think they should be at least a bit magical rather than 'sufficienctly advanced tech' because they're something a little bit like angels or devils but embodying logic & order rather than good or evil.
I don't vibe with these beings being the same beings after promotion, since they forget all their memories and stuff, they're more of a growth medium for a higher Fiendish lifeform, which feels like it goes against the self centered ideals of Fiends. In my universe, the lower planes are relatively the same, but Fiendish species are normal lifeforms in a way, who produce their same kind, with a few being able to metamorphose into an adult form, like imps turning into spined Devils over time, and eventually losing their wings and becoming barbed Devils, while Lemures and Nupperibos are essentially the same things, Larvae grown large enough to develop a fertile presence for Baatezu, the more larvae and such promordial Fiendish creatures, the more power a realm and Fiendish species can hold. Despite being relatively natural in their lifecycles, fiends undergo reincarnation as their first evolutions in a Fiendish strain following death, with all beginning as a larvae born from the plane itself, though there's particular larvae for each species. It's hard to tell if these were all mortal sould before they showed up in their planes, but they are definitely powered by harvested souls. Some Fiends aren't as bad as others, they have actual cultures, just brutal and alien ones. Fiends' appearances are generally all very different due to magical and cosmic mutation, but they're usually able to tell what species a particular Fiendish individual is. Due to their cosmic natures, Fiends can reproduce with mortal species, and these half Fiends are likely to be even stronger following their mortal deaths, so they are seen as powerful prospects for soul warping, they're like an extra espresso shot. Fiendish species do have different origins though, only being unified in that they're extraplanar cosmic alien soul mutants, otherwise some are artificial, some are natural, some aren't even really alive at all.
15:12 This artwork always makes me wonder whatever that poor Monodrone did to earn that glare xD Did it place some bricks in a slightly asymmetrical way, maybe?
I’ve always wondered how demons (or devils, for that matter) actually manage to replenish their numbers. I mean from petitioners, from which the Tanari’i and Baatezu get the lion’s share of their forces. Not the mechanics, but the petitioners themselves. While there will always be creatures that just don’t care - or believe they can climb the hierarchy - about what happens to them in the afterlife, surely most creatures do care. Unlike our reality, they can know exactly what awaits them if they are chaotic and evil. Torture, suffering, endless strife, etc. The good planes should be overflowing with petitioners, if for no other reason than to avoid the Abyss, Hades, etc. Only the most evilly insane creatures would strive to go to the Abyss. It isn’t even like the demons hide their activities or try to dupe creatures into joining them, unlike the devils. Asmodeus even intended Avernus to be a lush, green, pleasant place to deceive mortal creatures into believing Baator was a paradise, until the Blood War wrecked it. Imagine you can see the various afterlives by looking through a portal. You see Hell and are told this is where you will go if you are dishonest and evil, then you see Heaven, and you are told you will go there if you are honest and good. Which are you going to be? 99% of people would probably pick Heaven and try to be as honest and good as they could be.
I totally get what you mean! I may not know a whole lot about the day to day life about every Material Plane world but for the most part people don't have that portal to see the other planes. We get the big picture because of the books and DM insight, but people born in the D&D worlds just have access to what they learn from their own experiences, and because there are so many religions, they get a lot of mixed messages. And more than that, I think many people don't see beyond their own material (literally) lives. Plus, whenever the souls are waiting on the Fugue or in the Shadowfell demons sometimes just run in there to collect. Lol. But again, I see what you mean!
thank you so much for hearing my request😭
You're very welcome! It took a while because of the backlog of videos I wanted to do first, but they were a very interesting creature once I started researching.

Find it funny pathfinder Asuras are the opposite interpolation: fiends born from gods committing cosmic mistakes and desire to destroy them and undue all things they touch. They were one of the original inhabitants of hell before Geryon, also an Asura in PF setting, betrayed them to the invading Devils.
That's really interesting! I haven't looked at Pathfinder too much, but it seems really unique whenever I hear something about it.
Awesome! I was just thinking I’d love to hear more about asura. They are my favorite looking celestias along side lilend. Looking forward to this!
My first dnd campaign is kind of insane as i plan for the Demogorgon to be the final boss, im not using the proper dnd worlds im making my own and years ago a group of heroes trapped all demons and devils back where they came from, so a dude made by vecna ( i cany fit the whole lore in so it sounds weird) got the last stone of darkness and called the demon lords and archdevils and the Demogorgon answered it so vecnas kid stabbed himself with the stone and became vessel of the Demogorgon. Yep its wacky
Great Vid!! I'm running Storm Kings and a PC had Gnawbone in their background. This helps so much to make them more formidable!!
Happy to be of service! Apologize to the PCs on my behalf. LOL
obyrith are so damn horrifying that chat gpt refused to generate an image of one, saying it violates the content policy 😂😂😂

You'll be excited tomorrow!
I would like to talk to you if you have the time. I am the Ambassador for the upcoming film/documentary "50 Years of Fantasy" the 50th anniversary of D&D and looking for Creators and Influencers in our community.
Loumara's are so cool. I wish we had more lore about them.
Sometimes I miss the huge numbers 3.5 could give you. "I rolled a 16, so after all my modifiers, that's a 79. Is that high enough?" Then the DM takes another drink of his Moscow mule and says, "nope, the DC was 80." So much fun.
Despite having read so much about 3.5e, I've yet to actually play it. But I'm excited to actually experience it one day, it sounds fun!
@@nicthedm7650 It's a great edition! So much customization.

More about the obyrith plz.
I'll be getting back to demons soon. Then I can start covering individual Obyriths/ Obyrith Types!
13:19 it says that it rarely resorts to physical altercation, does this necessarily always mean violence? Could it be more of an angelic arm wrestling match or something of a similar vein?
I suppose physical altercations could be tests of strength like wrestling or other such contests.
Seems like all celestials are lawful good. Lazy writing for the CG celestials honestly.
I can see what you mean. With all the celestials gathering for the tribunal and such. I haven't gotten too far into researching the Chaotic Good Celestials but hopefully they show a bit more chaos.
The Time dragon does not appear in the Epic Level Handbook. Only the Force dragon and the Prismatic dragon. I’m pretty sure that the epic Time dragon appeared in an issue of Dragon Magazine.
Yes, you are right! My reference to the Epic Level Handbook was just for the "General" information that applied to all Epic dragons. I think I mentioned the Dragon Magazine Issue but it has been a while since I checked the video.

There's a bunch of quotes from Ed Greenwood in the 'So Saith Ed' archives on Candlekeep (can't link it, but the Candlekeep page with the pdf archives are easily found via google; I'd recommend using a 'combine pdf' site to smoosh them together for far easier ctrl-F 'ing). I personally view dnd canon as an 'ala carte' thing, but find the archives to be interesting to read. Here's one of the earlier quotes of his on canon: May 12, 2004: And, as promised, Ed's words to kuje31 re. canon (Athenon/Will, I promise I'll tell some Ed as DM stories, to go with the ones in the early single-digit pages of this thread, the moment life spares me the time to do more than snatch and toss Ed's words to waiting scribes... which may be five or six days from now): Although many licensed Realms products have given some designers fits over the years (and yes, the elf queen who appeared in the Wealdath in the BG II game was one such matter), the Volo's Guide to BG II is indeed canon. I can't personally speak for the BG novels being canon. What I can say is that, although gamers and fans hold many different personal positions on what is and what is not canon, the original Realms agreement is pretty clear on this: anything I write or say about the Realms IS official canon (hmm, sounds almost papal, doesn't it?), although future in-print products can "fix" things I write or say and then the revision becomes canon, AS LONG AS it's an in-the-Realms explanation. (To make up a hypothetical but entirely fictitious example, if a BATTLESYSTEM --remember that? -- product came out that changed the class and stats of an established Realms character, that alteration would NOT be a canon change, because it's a rules sytem detail that can be ascribed as being unique to BATTLESYSTEM: "Well, in your AD&D game King Thog is still a 7th level barbarian, but in BATTLESYSTEM terms, he's a YY" UNLESS the BATTLESYSTEM product stated that King Thog was transformed by a god into a YY.) So, yes, my sourcebook is canon, and I'd assume the novels and "the stats for the characters in those novels that are in Dragon" are canon, too. However, that last bit IS an assumption on my part. But yes, like it or not, if I say it, it's canon. Which is why, of course, I say so little, and in such guarded terms. :} So saith Ed, grinning cheesily as he types that last sentence, no doubt.
As if fights with this monster type didn't DRAG ON enough! Badum Tss!
Edgy dragons lol
All those old d&d supplements, really brought me back to my early days as a player. In the late 90's, early 2000's.
I believe that angels are one of the few things that really need to be changed (homebrew), and not just use old editions. Due to the obvious reason that they were never intended to be the main antagonists, they have very sparse lore and... Good or Evil, they need more gameplay options.
A lot of people believe there few reasons for celestials to attack mortals because of their good alignment. However it's easy to see lawful celestials doing things like inquisitions or purges against mortals who do not fit their views and justify them to be "evil" against their precived "good" I think games like Elden Ring are a perfect example because it shows that even the lawful good factions are flawed in some way.
@@MrToothpicksAhaha, well, this is not the best example, in the From games there is too much demonization of religion (real religion is already evil, it doesn’t need to be demonized🥶) Rather, I wrote that in the books there are very few celestial beings who would really be !interested! in beating someone... Considering that the lore contains such interesting things as “concentration camps for evil creatures,” this is reflected very poorly in the gameplay.🤔
@@whydidiwatchthis5174Were any celestials involved in that? From what I recall, that was the Harmonium performing a Lawful rather than Good project.
@@whydidiwatchthis5174also real religion does have sex with children like Islam and yes it happened with the church too. But you shouldn't blame the church for the acts of gay pedophiles that lied there way into the church. For a straight person would never screw a little boy. Unfortunately the straight sickos go for girls obviously. Either way sickos ate not religion. The church give sanctuary to anyone in need, that sounds nice and loving to me???
I cannot put into works how excited I was to see this on my feed. I’ve been waiting for someone to cover celestial eladrin for a long time, finding them a fascinating and fun faction. Looking forward to these deep dives with bated breath!
I love your coverage brother. I hope you can get to covering Devils and Yugoloths. I absolutely love Obyrith lore. I love the planar and lesser known deep lore. The longer and more data the better. The older authors for all this capture a lot of mystery to all this is setup
Keep up with the great work 👏
