Canary Movie Star

A canary from the Savoy Singers Aviary was a MOVIE STAR! It was a small 'bit part', but fun for me to have a bird as an extra on the popular Yellowstone series filmed in Montana. Fall 2020, I was contacted by the movie's prop director for a couple of canaries that were to play in one scene. The episode is Season Four, Episode One "Half The Money". • @SavoySingersAviary
      @SavoySingersAviary 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, she will do well. Many breeders use one male to mate with several hens.. the male travels from cage to cage as the hens begin to lay eggs.. then the hens are left to incubate and raise their chicks. They do fine. :)

      @@123bridel this is a common question. I don't know if you live in US or where, but I'd say : is it Spring or early to mid summer where you live? Canaries breed based on daylength... and naturally breed most successfully when the hours of daylight are increasing ... and 'fall out' of proper condition as the days shorten in fall. The hen may still be thinking about nesting, but will probably not be successful. If you have her where her days are the same length all year, such as in a living room where people turn lights on in morning, and off at night, canaries can be stuck in nesting mood most of the year.

    • @SavoySingersAviary
      @SavoySingersAviary 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not familiar with parrots. So, I suggest finding a parrot owner, who will have more experience and knowledge. If I had to give advice, I'd say he would need to have his cage covered, to stop any draft from the AC air that moves around the room away from the vent. I am not sure of the temperature he would need. I would guess above 70 ? I have not owned a parrot so I cannot help you. Sorry.

    • @SavoySingersAviary
      @SavoySingersAviary 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Before breeding, I will begin with a soft food, made with the same recipe I feed while the parents have chicks. I feed the soft food every day while feeding chicks, but only once a week before breeding begins. The recipe is at 1:47 in the video or on the bottom of one page of my Diet Nutrition Research on my website. www.sscanaries.com/p/diet-research_16.html In this video: th-cam.com/video/OBhl6FRgbxA/w-d-xo.html

      @@SavoySingersAviary oh i see. Me i feed my birds eggfood/softfood everyday now till they lay the first egg, isn't this are bad idea for feeding them everyday?

    • @SavoySingersAviary
      @SavoySingersAviary 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First, remember: every one can have different ways of breeding canaries.... and many different ways will work well. :) For Me: I want my canaries to have a REST and PLAY time, after the have finished the molt and before they begin to think about nesting again. In this REST time, they have a simple diet, with mostly seed and a few raw veggies. About one to two months before breeding, I will feed them soft food a few times. I also add a little song treat seed mix, which has the dark, oil seeds... just a little. I also feed a good vitamin/mineral supplement in the water. I also shut the heat vent in the bird room, so the temperature is cooler than normal. And the daylight hours are getting shorter as the days outside are shorter in the fall and winter. One month before breeding time in approx. March, I will give more baths, the temperatures will be warming, and the days will be getting longer. I will also feed a little pinch of softfood several times a week. I very much believe canaries should have SEASONS... including a rest season. Here is an article: ladygouldian.com/Cycle-Of-The-Seasons-for-Birds My way works for me. You may have success with your way! :)

    • @SavoySingersAviary
      @SavoySingersAviary 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Sometimes, birds new to my bird room will just 'hang out' the first year... not interested in being a parent. A few years ago, I had a hen that called for a mate, but wasn't happy with any males I put in with her. She built a nest and laid eggs, but wouldn't let a male get close. I found she was a good mama, so I kept her as a Foster Mama. She would nest, and I could give her little chicks from other hens, and she was such a good mama! :)
