Thanks, a great track that still sounds as good today as it did in 77, back in that summer I had my first summer job aged 14 working at a fairground on the dodgems, The Crunch was always getting played, and the song obviously reminds me of that summer, my pay per day, £3 and tax free, those were the days!!!!!

That's right the "album" was recorded in 1979, however, The Groove was not released until April 1980 and charted throughout May and June, the list relates to when the songs were released and charted, hence 1980 for The Groove, I have The Groove 7inch single, and Rodney's album You'll Never Know. infact the 7inch single lists as (c) 1980, only the album states 1979......

Yes, though in this 1977 TOTP clip appearance, it is not the real band, they were put together by the Record label.

@cashmerefunk-sm5gv I've been buying music since I was 12 (1974), helped by the fact my dad worked in a music shop throughout most of my childhood, in the mid 80s or so, the 12inch mix was always a vinyl thing anyway, it took until the late 90s going into the 00s before some of these versions ended up on CD and the into the 00 teens before becoming available as either a streaming service or download, unfortunately sometimes those services are not the quality of the original 12inch vinyl, Level 42 12 inch original pressings vs CD or downloads is a perfect example...and what's more, look after a vinyl and it will always sound as it did new, as long as it was a good pressing to start with.....

Thanks Chris, a great track, the recording and this 7inch pressing has a really good dynamic range and punch along with that brass section carrying the clarity very well, simply a joy to listen to, especially through headphones, I too listen (later at night) to my TV using headphones, both Sony, though this is just using the default BlueTooth set. I have more singles to post when I get some more free time to record, edit etc......

@@The70s80scollection Yes it's like you describe, I use the Headphone Exit to connect with Chinch to the Pre Amplifier, it's older and has no DAC, my CD Player has no Toslink in so I cannot use this DAC, one Day when I am a rich Man I can exchange the Amplifikation but anyhow I am still Happy with the Sound but as it is the Life there'll always be a better or Improvement available. Hope you find Time for some beautiful Uploads and reach the 1K Suscribers so the Cleaning Video can be produced. Have a good time Stewart 👌🏾

Good evening Chris, yes this pressing lacks any sort of detailed clarity or punch normally on 12inch vinyl singles, though this is likely down to the master gen copy used to cut as the B side has Urgent and sounds as it should. Just one of those things that happen on vinyl pressings. All good here thanks, been a bit busy with things around the house that I need to get done before winter sets in and a few other ongoing things that have taken up much of my time over the last year or so. I hope all is well with you and your summer break relaxing and listening to those classic tunes on that faithful HiFi you have is no more than a distant happy memory.

Thanks, a golden age and so much greatness. I'm a big fan of what is now labeled Yacht Rock, though I called it West Coast soft rock, and have more of that than any other genre from the mid to late 70s through to mid 80s, this style had the best musicians, producers etc, I have been wanting to post more Yacht but not had much time to dig them out from the boxes I have in my loft.

Those mid 70s Wings songs, was for me, Wings at their very best, I have a downloaded version of Venus and Mars (or I did have) and was not that impressed with that, though this was some time ago, I'll have to look it out about, it was one of the early hires downloads and as I said from a good few years ago now.... but a great time for wings, Venus and Mars, Band on the Run, just a golden time when recording studios were moving more and more into a true multi track technics, 12 into 24 and so on, 10cc I'm not in love would be a good example but retaining the quality that could not have been done previously. And only a few years later, Steely Dan's Aja, possibly the pinnacle of that full analog quality sound and the purest music at its best. A golden time we'll never see the likes of again.

The one that was always the closest to me even at my young age, a large part because of my parents exposing the music of their youth to me in childhood. 100% on "I'm Not In Love" and Aja. Paul was as musically productive as ever. He was an absolute beast. I think that time with Linda personally, spiritually and creatively elevated him. Band on the Run and RAM have a special place in my heart, both lovingly composed and performed and sounding HUGE on a good stereo.

Very much the summer sound, in fact for me the summer of 82, I had passed my driving test in February, got my first car, a 1974 Ford Capri, so that summer was Cars, girls and plenty mix tapes, that would have had Level 42, Shakatak, on just about all of them!. Music videos back then, attention to detail was not a thing, so Bill playing keyboards over a piano would have been the norm, as for the 12inch cut that was a bit of a lucky dip, as you say in this case 12inch was the album and the 7inch single was edited, to my knowledge most if not all of the early Level 42 12inch singles differed from the album releases, and I'm so glad I still have all of my copies, Shakatak was just about the same, most of their 12inch releases are remixed, extended, etc but it seems not all of them.

@@The70s80scollection I wasn't really into buying singles at that stage in my life (just albums) so I would have been unaware of any differences in the 12" singles. I had a very brief period in the late 80s early 90s when I bought the 12" extended versions of Transvision Vamp singles as they were different to the album version. But that was a blip.

Pleasure is mine, yeah bit of a shocker, The album he did with Bob James "Double Vision" was on of the first CD's I'd bought not long after buying a CD player even though I had the vinyl, it was just one of those albums I played over and over, recorded it onto cassette and played it in the car over and over, any time I hear any of those tracks remind me of that time in 88/89 just after getting married and driving around in my car or at home.

Hello, It's surprising how people thought the Madness version was the original, Madness had Labi appear in their music video. Very different versions, for me, the original is by far the best....

i am always finding originals i never knew existed. This week, Eric Carmen's All by myself is actually a piece by Rachmaninoff and In The Army Now by The Quo was by Bolland & Bolland

Same here, only just getting into the UK top 10, let alone not being a UK number 1.

One of my all time favs, a track I still play almost every day, have this very wav file playing in my car, my phone around the various speaker systems at home. As you say "absolutely brilliant"
