It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing Duke Ellington Drum Cover Arranged by D Berger
Performing yet another Essentially Ellington Composition Drum Cover. The tune was composed originally in 1931 by Duke Ellington with Lyrics by Irving Mills and is accepted as a Jazz Standard. Jazz historian Gunther Schuller characterized it as "now legendary" and "a prophetic piece and a prophetic title".In 2008, Ellington's 1932 recording of the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.. The song was first recorded by Ellington and his orchestra for Brunswick Records on February 2, 1932. Ivie Anderson sang the vocal and trombonist Joe Nanton and alto saxophonist Johnny Hodges played the solos. In later performances, trumpeter Ray Nance often sang the vocal. The song became famous, Ellington wrote, "as the expression of a sentiment which prevailed among jazz musicians at the time". It contains one of the earliest uses in popular music of the term "swing". Later down in the line in Ellingtons Career in 1961 Ellington recorded the tune with Jazz Trumpeter Louis Armstrong On the Album "The Great Reunion" and in 1967 Duke Recorded the Standard with Ella Fitzgerald on the album "Ella and Duke At The Cote D'Azur". The Tune was also recorded by many other greats including Dianne Schurr with Stan Getz, Tony Bennett with Lady Gaga, The Mills Brothers, Sidney Bechet and Martial Solal and many more. Here is the original 1932 Arrangement of the Duke Ellington Classic Supposed to be arranged for jazz singer Ivie Anderson and in this recording there is no Female Vocalist. The Members in the Brass and Sax Section Sing The Vocal Parts. The tune was yet again Arranged and Transcribed by David Berger For The 2002 Annual Essentially Ellington Competition at Lincoln Center in NYC and also played many times by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. Here is "It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing" the Original Ellington Arrangement recorded by the Conchali Big Band back in 2013. "Performing the 1943 Myles Collins Arrangement for The Glenn Miller Orchestra Back in the WWII Era." Erm....this was a Bill Finegan arrangement penned in 1942 for the Miller band. It was recorded on Glenn's last recording session with his civilian outfit in late July 1942. The recording is, of course, only an excerpt of Rhapsody in Blue, not the whole Gershwin piece (which, BTW was orchestrated by Ferde Grofé)
@@joostkiefte7683 So was from 1942 I'm assuming
Nice playing, very controlled and smooth!!!

I once said that if anybody wants to teach their children the quintessential marching song, this is the song to teach. What upset me about the story the first time I saw the film was that the main character was a con artist and liar once I caught on, because I was only about 12 or 13 when I first watched the film (as part of my music class at school), and I genuinely believed every word Harold Hill said about how pool tables lead to sin and vice, and every word about his "think system."
This rendition was great
That was awesome!!! Tony Bennett was such a great guy, you play his music very well. I can't wait until the next video from one of his songs is uploaded. Alexandra Toscano :)
