This album was done by my uncle John Mustian, back in 1973 and then rereleased in 2023 for the 50th anniversary of it's release. I've always liked it, for a variety of reasons, chief among them, is that he is my favorite uncle, and largely responsible for my spiritual growth as a young man. He has served as a traveling evangelist, pastor, gospel singer, missionary, just to name a few, and while...

I do hope you know (and i believe you do) that this entire song (Number of the Beast) is a direct reference/allegory/parody of the 80's US ignorant Satanic-Panic era...

And over thousands of years of astronomical records and billions of miles of hurling through space and no changes in constellations whatsoever. If there’d been any fair Christian evaluation of this music in the early 80s when it came out, Iron Maiden would probably be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Brexit doesn’t likely happen. Instead they got labeled devil worshippers by people who never bothered to listen to the music to push an agenda and essentially shadow banned in America creating a chain reaction that had Dickenson stumping hard for Brexit just to make them mad.

    I think you're making an unkind take on the song. For a start we don't know if the prisoner has had a fair trial, he could be a political prisoner, a martyr or an enemy of the state for example.....it's happened plenty of times in history. It it was such a case wouldn't it be natural to question what the heck is going on? I think it's pretty clear from the lyrics that the prisoner believes in the afterlife and that that is where he will be judged "Mark my words, believe my soul lives on, Don't worry now that I have gone, I've gone beyond to seek the truth" but the songwriter Steve Harris has chosen not to be as literal as you seem to want him to be. Also the prisoner is not the only one to question god as they anticipate their execution is he? “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”.....

    • @GlenMustian
      @GlenMustian 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@GlenMustian I don't think that's necessarily an admission of guilt. If he was a political prisoner or a POW for instance why would he be sorry? You seem to be determined to take the least kind view of it. How about Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath.

      @@locusmortis ...and you seem determined to paint me as being unkind, when I'm only trying to highlight the fact that have have a strange aversion to being repentant and contrite about their moral failings. Yes, I suppose there is a remote possibility that he is an innocent man wrongly accused, but its hypothetical right, and my view its much more likely, don't you think? Give me a line from the song that proves his innocence or implies he is a POW or political prisoner. Yes, I've been wanting to do a Black Sabbath song, and I've considered, "Heaven and Hell", but the lyrics don't really lend themselves to a biblical narrative, as much as I'm looking for in this series. I'll look at it again though, thanks for the input. There are several songs on Master of Reality that I would like to look at, especially "Lord of this World" and "After Forever". We'll see, but I haven't even had time to respond to comments, much less make a new video in the last few months.

    You don´t need a book (of blatant human influence, once you track down its origins) to tell you to get a perspective of life, because spirituality also exists outside religion. It is part of the human condition. A Creator might exist(ed) but it has nothing to do with human religions. I see you as a nice guy, not as a Pastor, but you need to trace religion back (since you bring it to the subject). It is a win/win situation: either you prove your convictions are right or... you move along. I am not afraid of being wrong. I am afraid of not being right.Take care.

      Interesting comment, also I have a son named Josiah. I think you are making a huge assumption that people of faith, myself included, have not done any research regarding the veracity of what they believe. In my own life, I was born into the Christian faith, my dad was a pastor and I had to go to church 3 or 4 times a week, receiving a full dose of religious indoctrination. I was also brainwashed in the secular humanist ideology of the public education system as well; so I've received a balanced view of both sides of the ideological abyss. I rejected my Christian roots in my teens and went about as deep into the underbelly of sin and so-called spirituality as anyone would dare to go. It brought me nothing but emptiness and brokenness, but also back to the realization that there is no truth in this universe outside of the truth found in the Christian Bible. It is a supernatural work of divine origins and, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." ( 2 Tim 3:16-17). I have traced religion back as far as you can take it, and what you find is an ever-increasing departure from the true faith in the one, true and living God of the Bible, and an embracing of the base-instincts of corruptible man. So, I believe that yes, I have proven my convictions to be right, and I'm very comfortable with that. I wouldn't embarrass myself on TH-cam every week if I wasn't. BTW... Spirituality without the involvement of the Holy Spirit of God is demon worship my friend, and you are opening yourself to possession.

      @@GlenMustian The concept of "satan" comes from the zoroastrian religion, not christianity. I don´t believe in none, so I am not subject to "possession" something that does not exist. Also "jesus" (one of a few who was born from a virgin, who pretended to save us and who ascended to heaven) was jew, not christian. I also had dark times in my life when my family participated on human cults. I guess we know both places but look at it with different "eyes". And, may I ask rhetorically, if, without involvement of the holy spirit spiritaulity becomes demon worship, why did "god" created it? Why did "god" created "satan" so his creation might be subject of evil influence from HIS criation? Cheers.

    What does Daniel 2 teach us? The overall theme of the Book of Daniel is God's sovereignty over history, and the theme of the tales in chapters 1-6 is that God is sovereign over all earthly kings. In Daniel 2 these two merge, and the claim of God's sovereignty extends beyond the immediate story to take in all of history. What is the most important message of Daniel's story? Daniel is a story of a person being faithful to God. More importantly, the life of Daniel recorded in the Old Testament gives evidence of God's faithfulness. God knew Daniel - He knew Daniel's needs and what Daniel was struggling with - and it's clear that God cared for Daniel.

You need to listen to Close to the Edge by Yes and Supper’s Ready by Genesis. Listen to the words. Yes! And do you know why? It's because... "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight..." GOD's Word is the Only Absolute Truth in this world. NOT Hinduism Not Buddhism NOT Ancestor Worship or Pantheism or any other than JESUS. ONLY JESUS saves us from Our own sins whether you have few sins or a multitude of Sins over decades. If you HUMBLE yourselves and ACCEPT JESUS sacrifice for our sins HE is Willing and Able to Forgive our sins and make us acceptable to GOD the Father. TL;DR This song is not about preparing yourself for the life after, it's very much about time in general and how it makes us feel at various intervals of our life. It's also about making the most of the time you're given and to live right now, in the moment. Not explicitly. It's wrapped in colourful language speaking to the rational and irrational mind. It's even in the structure of the song itself. Turning it into something to preach over only diminishes what the song itself is actually about. Nothing objective to be found here, only subjective feelings. -- We experience time relative to how old we are. One year feels like eternity to an 4-year old, but limited to a 58-year old. That's what the verse with the line _tired of lying in the sunshine_ is about. When you're young, you can get away with feeling tired of doing nothing. This is then magnified in the next verse. The sun sets. That's one day for you _and_ for the sun. But the sun is so old, it might as well have existed forever compared to the length of your life. And it sure as hell will come up in the morning, but you might not. That's why _the sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older_. It's supposed to invoke a sense of urgency, futility, existential dread and a sense of wonder. A weird mix of feelings supported by a single piece of trivial knowledge. _Relative_ is the key word to analyse, but that's not at all what get's any attention from you. I'm pretty sure this song was not written from a religious perspective. The last verse even mocks religion by suggesting the faithful are coping with their mortality by praying while listening to _softly spoken magic spells_ during the _tolling of the iron bell_. But that's one part you leave out all together. Like, what?!? Here are the omitted lyrics, by the way: [Outro: David Gilmour] _Home, home again I like to be here when I can When I come home cold and tired It's good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells_ What I don't get about this whole video is the following: you somehow mark song lyrics as _truth claims_ but nowhere do you isolate these claims so we know what it is you're giving your perspective on. You just start talking a bit and when it's convenient for you it turns into proselytizing. To a person who's not inclined to presuppose a deity this feels terribly weird. And then you end it off with a bible verse that somehow has to be linked to the lyrics, but you don't explain that part, like _at all_. The writers of this marvellous piece of art are not out to claim any specific truth, they want to evoke emotion from you. They want to make you feel euphoric, saddened, confused and confident. Sometimes all at the same time. Like in the example I gave. They let _you_ decide what you want to make of it, how it resonates with you. In the end that's all music really does anyway. And that's exactly what you're doing in this video. Why do you feel the need to wrap it under false pretences of theological evaluation and absolute biblical truth? I really think you should reconsider rehashing dogma's and stale truths over any song lyric, for that matter. In what way is that you adhering to what you set out to do? It's cherry-picking and a shame, that's what it is.

    • @GlenMustian
      @GlenMustian 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @dakrisis, Thank you for the great response. It was well-thought out and I appreciate your honesty and constructive criticisms. As for the, [Outro: David Gilmour], I've always viewed that as two separate songs smashed together, having nothing to do with each other. Sometimes, I've even seen it listed like, "Time/Home Again". Anyway, it doesn't have anything to do with "Time", that's why I left it out, not "cherry-picking". I know that my analysis is choppy, incomplete, and lacking in many areas, and your comments are valid. I'm trying to keep these under 30 minutes and I just can't seem to cover everything as much as I'd like to. However, I strongly disagree with your assertion that there is, "Nothing objective to be found here, only subjective feelings." It's not subjective to say that our lives are short and fragile (relatively to the sun and eternity), and that our time here is fleeting, at best. That is an absolute truth that this song beautifully expresses, I agree with it, and so does Scripture, which is why it is a subject worthy of analysis. I'm sorry you couldn't understand relevance of my analysis and the verses that I subtlety inserted. I thought the connections were clearer, but perhaps not. While researching this song though, I found this reaction from @Beatleman65 who said: "I had a religion professor last year at college who LOVED Pink Floyd, we even went over Floyd lyrics in class. But he had this deathly fear of the song Time because of how true it is. I thought to myself "well ok, it's probably just because you're a wacked out philosopher" but after a few listens myself, he is right." So, you see, it's not just me that sees the truth of what is being said here. I think you've mistaken me for not agreeing with the song, but I said in the beginning, I believe the song is true and is cohesive with biblical truth. Now, you mentioned that my analysis, "...feels terribly weird..." to "...a person who's not inclined to presuppose a deity..." (interesting description of yourself BTW), but I would argue that, truth hurts and it feels awkward to a world that has tried so hard to insulate themselves from it, pretending that there is no absolute truth, so that they can live wicked lives with no remorse. Also, It's interesting that in one sentence you defend the right of everyone to interpret song lyrics according to, "...what you want to make of it..." and how it resonates with you..." but then you get offended because my interpretation differs from yours so drastically. Look, it's not uncommon for secular people get upset when the works of their favorite artists and philosophers are viewed critically with a "theological evaluation and absolute biblical truth". But again, I'm coming from the perspective that all truth emanates from God Himself, and even those who do not, "...presuppose a deity...", stumble on to this truth from time to time. You seem like a very intelligent person, and I can tell you've thought these concepts through, but I would challenge you to "...reconsider rehashing [your own] dogma's and stale truths." You so eloquently wrote about this song invoking, "...a sense of urgency, futility, existential dread and a sense of wonder..." but where did you get those concepts from? Certainly not from a random chance explosion of matter and silly fairy tales that reject an intelligent creator! These words and ideas express cognitive intelligence, design, and complexity, and demand far more consideration than what you have given them. BTW, the faithful aren't just "...coping with their mortality by praying..." it's because God "...has put eternity in their hearts..." (Ecc 3:11) and they are merely being thankful for that calling. A calling that you too may answer, and I pray that you do.

    Talk about words having two meanings, 10 people can read the same Bible, & each interpret it different. Tell us why one Christian preacher, preaches hate, while another preaches love everyone. Robert wanted each person to interpret this song for themselves, you decided to take it on a bad path. To be honest, those like you, make me not want to go to heaven if there is one.

I do tho disagree with your end times view. I believe the "last hour" happened in the first century & culminated in the destruction of Jerusalem/ The temple. Jesus repeatedly told the disciples that "the time was at hand" & that meant soon. Anyways, thought I'd share a little about preterism.

    Almost don't know where to start here goes -i also agree infamous is wholly inapproriate description especially at the outset, talk about prejudging. If you are going to use so many quotes other than the biblical references a bare minimum for credibility is to attribute them which you haven't. The main themes of the song are indeed about materialism and spirtuality hope and redemption all compatible with Cristianity but Mr Plant is not so arrogant as to be prescriptive , compatible with many other faiths as well or if you don't believe in an afterlife about contentment and true hapiness is this life. Up to the listener to decide. and of course you you can decide for yourself but please don't try to lecture other people with so little research. i find your arguments very ill founded. You need to be aware they a British band to understand the references in this song . Plant lived with his family in Wales when not touring and famously it is his happy place, a place of of tranquility where he is connected to the countryside ( hedgerows forrests brooks may queen etc) He was in love with Welsh countryside language , poetry history and traditions. Wales is the west side of the uk . When he is looking to the west and his spirit is crying for leaving he is homesick for wales. It is a pre-chistian tradition to venerate the Hawthorn tree known as May because it blossoms in may and there has alsways been a celebration of the return of spring. The bustle in the hedgerow is the coming back to life in spring RP has explained this in interviews and has also written a solo song on the subject .The May Queen . They did do the hippy movement travelling to experience other cultures and those are reflected in other songs achilles last stand , Kashmir thanks goodness they did because that broadmindedness is what gave the breadth and variety to their music and lyrics so that is to be celebrated. Regarding the satanism foolery what would be the purpose of backward recorded message even if they were possible to do , are we suggesting our immortal souls are so fragile we would lose them if we inadvertantly hear some nonsense without even being aware of it? I think it is very revealing that one of the main pushers of that theory was one of those thoroughly corrupt American televangelists who was seeking noteriety for himself because he makes himself rich by claiming he saves souls if people send him money- literally buying a stairway to Heaven. This is really the territory of the lunatic fringe . You are hammering your own views into this song . If you don't like it or think it is dangerous don't listen to it.

      Sue, thank you for your well-thought out reply. I appreciate the passion you communicated for your country and heritage, and I don't dispute what you are saying about it. I'm not sure you watched the whole video though, because I did speak about the song having two meanings; one on the surface, and one with a deeper spiritual meaning. I believe you to be adequately referring to the surface meaning but you are failing to account for the obvious spiritual meaning, which is definitely not, "compatible with Christianity". (You should check out the "Queen of Heaven mythologies that have been around for thousands of years, and I think you'll find that it has crept into the cultures of every society.) References? What, am I writing a term paper here? Didn't know that was a requirement... Ok, you got me there, but I was only quoting from other random people on the internet who are commenting on the "truth claims" of the song. But hey, people have been bashing Christianity for 2,000 years, questioning biblical authority on the subjects of salvation, materialism, spirituality, hope, and redemption; so since the "Mighty Led Zeppelin" wrote a song called, "Stairway To Heaven", and used quasi-Christian imagery to write the lyrics for it... guess what? I have every right to analyze and react to its truths claims, comparing them to the Biblical Truth that inspired them. At the end of the video, I did address the backmasking issue, and I agreed with you that it was a fringe-worthy accusation, made by a disreputable source, and I don't believe it either. I did find your instructions to me at the end to be interesting though, "You are hammering your own views... If you don't like it or think it is dangerous don't listen to it." In "hammering your own views..." about the song and my critique of it, are you not doing what you are accusing me of? In telling me, "don't listen to it", "If you do not like something and think its dangerous", Shouldn't you just take your own advice and not watch the video? Why did you reply with such passion to this post? Look, you obviously love the song, and you love Led Zeppelin! There is no sin in that, and I'm not judging people for it. Heck I love their music as well! But I also think it is dangerous, and I have the right and even obligation to express that concern in order to warn people to beware of it. Isn't that what you do when you love them enough to protect them? I hope you can understand that. Robert Plant said it himself in the song, and I think he is absolutely right in doing so; that "There are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there is still time to change the road you're on." All I am doing, is advocating for one of those paths, and I pray you will choose the right one, as I described at the end of the video. God bless you.

    “Infamous song?!” It’s not infamous, it’s famous and for good reason, it rocks! “Truth claims?” It’s art. Even Robert Plant, who wrote the lyrics, doesn’t profess some absolute truth to the lyrics, outside a lady that thinks she can buy her way into heaven. The folks that always touch on the “demonic element” are the ones that are often threatened by great art because of their religious beliefs somehow. Even though this song should have more in common with such folks then not. Personally, if you are the one that has to interpret the meaning of a song to me, then what use is my own free will? To quote another great band, Rush, “ I will choose free will.” Plus, your “interpretation” is obviously clouded by your faith. Enjoy the song or not but trying to ridicule a great song because of your own religious insecurities is quite silly. You know that Zeppelin also has a biblical song called In My Time of Dying? Obviously you’ll find demons in that too. It’s a very tenuous perch you’re on. Enjoy casting stones.
