Believe the nain actress Na Cilento ..was at the time married to a BIGGER star than Newman .007 that is ...Mr Connery
Anyone have this film digitized, want to share?
What the hell is this 🤬🤬🤬
You lost me within 15 seconds
The greatest
Growing up Hombre was my top 3 western movie with Butch Cassidy and The Good Bad Ugly movie. As a kid I've always found Russell's logic just right. Loved it then and stood the test of time for me. Newman is superb, different, stoic and always seems to be having a good grasp of the situation.
Richardson 23 gr.. ...good choices. .I woul throw in 2 comedies .. Cat Vallou ....Villain ..With kirk Douglas.nonsense but fun
Cat Ballou that is
Hombre is a brutally honest film, both in its condemnation of the treatment of Native Americans and in its dealing with deadly threats in the the old west. It's a real shame this has to be considered "revisionist" because all the westerns before it (and most after it) failed to portray the issues in such a thoughtful way. Hombre won't appeal to younger generations who enjoy fast-paced action that requires little reflection. Pity. You can learn a lot about bravery, justice, and caring by watching it.
I was lucky enough to see this movie at the theater in 1995. Heard about it from a promotional CD-ROM included with a copy of Rolling Stone magazine. The reason the movie flopped is because most people in 1995 still didn't have computers with Internet access and didn't understand the movie.
Today is Paul Newman's birthday. I will watch this, my favorite of all his roles. I still feel it's power after watching it first at 10 years old. Martin Ritt directed him 5 times before. This remains a top ten Western on my list and a cinematic work of art.
To the unseen commentator: Please improve your vocabulary to avoid run along sentences. Even though you made valid and interesting observations, it was unbearable and droned on. The best solution for this (other than reading) is to watch the old Password gameshow. Believe me! ... It works.
Thanks for your constructive criticism
You’re right that Newman turns off the charismatic side of his persona in this movie. But we are still drawn to him scene after scene, looking for some encouragement that he’s a level guy, but never really knowing for sure until the end.
The basic pervasive sense of life on the edge, with violence likely to happen at any time, is superbly depicted in this series. The feeling that this was how America's current state has evolved is potent. The series and the final film had good writing and acting in abundance within supeb production creativity throughout.
I thought this was pretty poor. Save for Newman's performance.
that is a shame, what didn't you like about it, Newman is always great alright
I used to absolutely hate westerns.....and my dad and Pawpaw watched then constantly on cartoon day when l was younger. Im 42 now and my Pawpaw has passed and my dad just passed away o` new years 23. Now lm binging on every western l can find. Ive never loved westerns like l do now. I cant get enough. God Bless You all
There is honestly so many great ones, unforgiven, outlaw Jose wales, hombre which I did a review off, the man from Laramie. It’s great you had that experience with your dad, that is how I got into westerns too
Profane raw sexy and scary in how terrible violence could occur in a flash. Booth and Macshane werr brilliant.
They could have easily done 3 more epic seasons ....the movie was way too rushed for such a brilliant show!
Yeah, it’s amazing to think it’s problem wasn’t that it ran out of material, instead it was the fact that it rushes through so many. But maybe they ran out of money or the actors wanted to do other things
Such an incredible movie q
yeah definitely a gem
I am still so overwhelmed by the series and the loss of my fav characters by the end of season 5 that it will take me some time to gather energy to watch the film. You need lots of energy to watch Uthred's journey and whatever 😊
Yeah the TV series was a perfect arc in away and resolved everything. Uthred always suffers alot an the actor plays who so vulnerable and emotional that hits you harder. The movie isn't as emotional but still worth watching and it does hit you at times too.
Lame review. Shane is one of the best westerns ever. Alan Ladd’s portrayal of Shane is perfect. Doesn’t overact like Brando.
Best two lines in the movie...in a strong field of contenders...is a simple one. "Hey, I've got a question. How you going to get back down that hill?" Mayhem...ensues.
I completely agree! That line is a classic and sets the stage for the chaos that follows. It's amazing how such a simple question can lead to so much mayhem and excitement. This movie is definitely full of memorable moments, but that line is one that always sticks with me. It's a testament to the power of great writing and delivery. Thanks for bringing up that great scene!
@@Cinemacallback Later on...Boone has one I never heard before.... 'your friend has a lot of bark on him' ... a tip of the hat to his toughness.
Hack Jesus But if he had not said " how you gonna get down that hill ...".Boone .who reacted to the question...would not have reacted and Newman would have hit him more directly with the shot ..and likely killed him.If Boone had died then. Newman would have lived until the end of the movie. Most probably
Woo: c*s*er
Swearengen's the most attractive mustachioed man I've ever seen.
Get another job. This review is terrible!
Shane is the best movie ever
The film's themes of loyalty, redemption, and the struggle between good and evil have resonated with audiences for decades. It's great to hear that you enjoyed the movie and found it to be the best ever.
The Paul Newman character is a very reluctant hero for reasons conveyed in the film. Diane Cilento puts in a terrific performance as the woman who understands him - at least bothers to. Barbara Rush is good also. They all are. Yes it's a good film. Thanks for your commentary.
I can not understand how Hombre is overlooked in "best western" lists.
Pathetic ending to what could have been a great movie. Did he really think the dumb white kid could make the shot? Did he really think the white survivors were going to give the money to the tribe? And what happened t the guy on the horse who was circling behind? Also, he was way to articulate in English for his upbringing.
@@lelandsmith2320 John Russell was killed because, A , he didn't want Jessie to sacrifice herself for Mrs. Favour and B, Mrs.Favour, the woman he set free, got in the way and prevented the boy from sighting the Mexican. The irony is, Mrs Favour, who stole the money and was therefore the cause of their problems, was also responsible for his death. Yes, I believe they would have returned the money to the reservation - out of respect for what John Russell did.As for the other bandit. He was hiding in the hills, covering a back door escape.
I completely agree with you. "Hombre" is a classic western film that deserves more recognition. It has a great cast, a compelling storyline, and it tackles important themes such as race and identity. It's unfortunate that it's often overlooked in "best western" lists, but hopefully more people will discover and appreciate this gem of a film.
They were making amazing guitars out in California in 1953-and movies like this
It's fascinating to think about the creativity and innovation happening in different industries during the same time period. While musicians were perfecting their craft in California, filmmakers were producing classic movies that are still watched and appreciated today. It's always interesting to discover the connections and intersections between different art forms and cultural movements.
I have got this movie DVD of Alan Ladd Van Heflin Brandon Dr Wilde Ben Johnson and Jack Palance in Shane I am dedicating this movie DVD to my old school friends who are both sisters and I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxx
It's great to hear that you have such fond memories associated with the movie Shane and that you are dedicating the DVD to your old school friends. It's always nice to be able to share something special with friends, especially something that holds a lot of personal meaning. I hope that you get to see Chris and Hester soon and enjoy watching the movie together.
I completely disagree with your assessment. What's up with the "vanilla" comment anyway. Do you need a dysfunctional hero model or something? Your generation is so far removed from men like Shane you're incapable of understanding a real mfr like Shane . In your world, your generation, Shane would've fcked the wife, killed the husband, sold the kid and went into town and got drunk with the idiots.
One of my top ten movies!!! I watch at least twice a year. And the cast?? SUPERB!!
I disagree with everything you have said You come from a stand island of less integrity whilst referring to comic strips Shane is practically floor less I haven't the will to put you right in question of everthing you've said One of many great assets is the Victor Young score Yes score I said not one theme but so many I couldn't bear watching and listening to your personal opinions from the opening two minutes . The lack of heart and depth straightaway was a turn I wish you well in life always Michael Ball

The “h” is silent.
Любимият ми актьор любимият ми филм . Пол Нюмън в уестърна " Хомбре " . За пръв път го гледах, като младеж през лятото на 1974 год. и бях силно впечатлен. От тогава го гледам по няколко пъти в годината ..!!!
It's a great one!
This take on a classic is retardation of a narrow mind 😄
Fuck is this about you or the movie
Good. Muito bom mesmo...gde move.. .
This movie is epic to me. As a Paul Newman fan and western film fan. As so much i took Hombre as my gamer tag and nick name.
It's great to hear that you enjoyed the movie so much that you even took the name "Hombre" as your gamer tag and nickname! It's always a sign of a good film when it leaves a lasting impression on its viewers. Paul Newman was truly a remarkable actor and it's always a treat to see him in action. As a fellow western film fan, I can definitely appreciate the appeal of this movie. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Hombre has smirk on face at the end of movie. Similar to Cool Hand Luke ending. Hombre, HUD, etc. his H movies.
Hombre is a half breed raised by the Indians becomes the captain of Police for the reservation. He knows about starving and has been so hungry he could eat a dog. One politician stealing thousands belonging to the people of the reservation. Some died not having or receiving their funding until it’s returned. Being a half - breed sometimes you aren’t given the attention or love by either race. It’s by the things you do at the end which really matter.
As usual a western with a lot of potential is ruined by a loud mouth women...westerns are made for men but liberal Hollywood as usual panders to the women...irritating ...
You are a idiot my blimey friend. This movie was one of the best if not the best western ever.
Hombre was the most hardcore and cynical anti-hero I've ever seen in a Western. He was even harder than Clint Eastwood's characters in Unforgiven and the Dollars Trilogy. Hombre was willing to let the crooked Indian agent's nasty wife be cruelly killed because she had shown no sympathy for starving Apaches. In fact, he only tried to save the nasty woman because another woman who he DID like and respect was going to sacrifice herself to save the nasty woman. He did the right thing in the end, but only reluctantly.
In the beginning, he is forced out of stagecoach to ride with the driver. The stagecoach robbed he kills one man which previously was mistreating Indians in a bar was part of the police for the Indians.
Don’t know the nationality of our narrator, but “Hombre” has a silent H.
His nationally is uncultured Irish lol
Good review. Hombre is my favourite Newman movie. It is very verbal and reflective. Addy Adderson's point 3 years ago is absolutely right. John Russell's (Hombre/Newman) ethics are very clear. He hates the white persecution of his adopted Apache kinfolk. He does not trust the white people at all. He is shown to be right. The irony is that he dies protecting white people. It is up there with Kirk Douglas "Lonely Are The Brave" made in 1962. Based on Edward Abbey's novel "The Brave Cowboy" 1958. My favourite Hombre scene is in Delgados bar, when he smashes a bad white outlaw for bullying his Apache brothers. In Spanish the "H" in Hombre is silent. It means a Man, a real man. The lady playing Jesse is brilliant also.
Thanks for the insight and continuing the conversation in a productive way, that is a good point regarding who he died saving
Excellent !
The letter 'h' is silent in Spanish. Hombre means 'man'.
si. Like the D in Django.
The Last Wagon with Richard Widmark was a similarly good movie. Currently free on TH-cam.
His films are beautifully crafted without being at all pretentious. If you like this you'll love his film un flic , its also brilliant.
