Elise needs to start doing songs with more emotion in them. All the songs that she does sound the same in tempo, dynamics, etc. Her singing emotions are so blase ( lacking enthusiasm).

The songs are X Marks the Spot and Awake. Both are originals drawn from her debut album Unraveling.

Trouw handles all the instruments with understated professional skill and finesse, but I love her voice as much as anything she does. She sings with maturity beyond her years and with great control, subtlety, and even a kind of cleverness that makes me smile. Some might denigrate her style because what she sings doesn't require the vocal pyrotechnics so often gratuitously plastered across the aural landscape that performers from places like The Voice, American Idol or "Fill in the Blank's" Got Talent are elbowing each other to occupy. Knowing what and especially what NOT to sing and delivering those decisions impeccably and at a volume that invites you to listen more carefully instead of having to peel yourself from the back of the chair where you're sitting makes for engaging Elise Trouw's music in a deliciously satisfying way.
