This rocket is equipped with the VOS2 Vertical Orientation System. For this flight, the sustainer tilted to 15° after stage separation. Then, the rocket performed a 120° change in bearing (the "curl") while at the 15° tilt. The objective of the flight was to acheieve as smooth of a turn as possible. This was just a fun flight of the Test Rocket with the VOS Vertical Orientation System. The rocket was flown at a 10° tilt. The objective of this flight was to fly close to a predicted apogee position and then land near a predicted landing location. I did pretty well.

This flight of the test rocket demonstrates the capabilities of the VOS2 Vertical Orientation System. For this flight, the rocket flew at an 18° tilt to achieve a more favorable landing location. The system is designed and built by Jim Jarvis, Dr. Bill Premerlani, and Dr. Bryan Marshall, and it works quite well.

This is Gordon Bain's first VOS2 flight. VOS is an orientation control system that controls yaw/pitch and roll for high power rockets. This flight was to investigate the effectivevess of fixed fins for controlling roll without experiencing control reversal.

This is my ground video of the fantastic flight by Kip Daugirdas with Project MESOS. The rocket reached 293,488 feet. One of the best amateur rocket flights ever performed.

The rocket and the vertical orientation system shown in the video are the result of a collaboration betweein Jim Jarvis and Bill Premerlani. The flight program includes 38 changes in tilt and/or bearing to create the serpentine flight path.
