Why so damn much the one for newer jeeps is half the price.....it can't cost that much more for the blocks?????
Hello, Our JK Pak Rax for both the kit and the single side are less than the JL Pak Rax. You may have mistaken the single side for a kit hence the price difference.
Seems like without the padding (which should be installed at the factory IMHO), vibrations will cause the metal edge of the rack to cut up the ax handle
For those of you thinking about buying one of these racks they are super high quality and they look amazing but I did lose about 3 mpg with it I went from averaging 22-23 mpg to 19 mpg
Hey! Thanks for your comment, awesome to hear what you have to say about our Rack. It is odd to hear you lost 3MPG with it. In many situations and testing that we have done, we have seen no decrease in gas milage and in some cases increases in gas milage. MPG has many different factors that play into your vehicle as well. What items do you have mounted on our roof rack?
What brand of amber lights do you have mounted on the back rail?
Hey, KD.Overland runs Diode Dynamics for his lighting system. The chase lights that are shown in the video are part of Diode Dynamics' Stage Series lights. If you would like to confirm the model, you can message kd.overland via Instagram.
is it safe to spray paint these?
Hey, We have seen others paint TrailRax products before. Check out @arcticjku on Instagram, she has painted her JK PakRax with a grey paint. If you do want to paint your PakRax please be sure to tape over any threads or hardware otherwise the paint will become an interference and will effect installation.
Same question as Davey… I have the same rooftop tent and am trying to get an idea of how to install the tent onto the rack since there is little to no room to get your hands under there.
Hey Thomas, When it comes to mounting most tents on the TRMR Rack we like to recommend getting our HD Tent Mount Kit. If you have the same exact tent shown in the video then you can get away with our 4 Pack of HD Tent Mounts, due to the tent being lightweight. If you plan to have an awning mounted as well look into getting the 1.5" rise as that will help give you the clearance to mount the awning brackets. Both the 1" rise and 1.5" rise will help installation as that will give you more room to install. Also, when installing the tent our installers found that removing the hardtop panels above the driver and passengers will make it easier accessing those tight spots to tighten bolts and nuts.
You guys skip some of the hardest steps in this video. How on earth do you get the little nuts on the bolts that are part of the bronco above the windshield? It's absolutely impossible. There's zero space in there.
Hello! Thanks for your comment, We usually get the washers and nuts over the factory studs in the front via some needle nose pliers or some smaller hands, then tighten down with a 10mm ratcheting wrench. Some have found loosening the deflector or removing it entirely helps with access to those nuts so you can tighten them down. Hope this helps!
Agreed, every install video seems to struggle with that part.
@@trailraxright. Just seems like you out things together and then loosen them to tighten again. That whole process should be reviewed to be simplified. Also, you can see the places where you remove the protectors above the windshield with the rack on. It would be nice if they were covered somehow for a nicer look - kinda like the stock rack.
So in the process os installing my trail pax raxk and was wondering why the 3 washers for the Raptor? Would it not make the top sit higher?
great question! For the additional washers on the Raptor, it is to clear some additional hardware that normal broncos do not have, with that said, it still does not effect or change the height of the hardtop on where it sits, in fact it still sits in the factory location because we do not use the same mounting location as the hardtop. This way it completely isolates the lower Pak Rax mount on its own. If you have any more questions, let us know!
@trailrax Well, i got it installed, and during the installation, I noticed why the need for the additional washers is needed. The installation was a breeze, and the fit and finish were amazing. I posted a quick sneek peek of the trailrax half rax and pax rax installed, and I am super happy. You guys really nailed it. 👏 Thanks for the reply, and thanks for the support during the whole ordering process.
Your guy mixes up the windshield brackets BTW. FB-UP-4 is Driver Side. FB-UP-5 is Passenger Side. Unless you reverse them for the Raptor.
1.93 inches? lol. seriously? why not provide a template of the expected distance? with the amount you guys are charging for the racks, I'm sure you guys can at least do that.
Hello! Thanks for your comment. 1.93 inches is typically the measurement we get but due to manufacturing tolerances of Ford Broncos, it can range more or less than 1.93 inches. We inform customers here in the video and on our written instructions that 1.93 inches is a good starting point. Ultimately the measurement between driver and passenger side needs to be the same, to ensure the rack is centered on the vehicle.
@@trailraxyour instructions say 1.92.
I would like to get one of these racks for my Bronco but I’d really like to see them or someone else come out with a bracket that will work with this rack and the 50” KC Titan Light bar. And I’m thinking of it sitting in front of the wind deflector or the same spot, sitting on top would be way to high to fit into my garage…
Luckily for you! We have that exact bracket in production now and will launch soon!
How difficult is this rack to install?
The rack is fully bolt on and does not require you to drop the headliner. Check out our other videos on the Bronco Sport product line for more info or reach out to us at info@trailrax.com
I just ordered the half rack with pax rax but didn't know I had to specify its a Raptor Bronco.
For $500 a set, you’d think that you guys would include black hardware to make it look better.
I'd love to have this kit on my JKU, but I already have the Rhinorack Platform with backbone installed.
Hey! Our Pak Rax will work with the Rhino Rack Platform, it will change the drilling locations but it is compatible for your situation!
@@trailrax seriously? Now, I'm super excited. lol Who can I reach out to chat with about this?
@@trailrax I have your website, I'll reach out.
@@thetrailaheadofus reach out to Info@trailrax.com!
I have had one on my 2 door and one on our 4 door for almost a year and a half. We still love them. I carry a ikamper Sky Camp on one and tons of gear on the other.
I bought a TrailRax TRMR rack (With Pak Rax) and this kit for our Bronco and Alu-Cab 3-R tent. I assembled the rack, HD tent mounts and Alu-Cab load bars on the floor before installation, which made that part of the job much less of a PITA than it would have been. I can confirm that the crossbar spacing on the rack is 12" inside (NOT 14" as stated in this video) and 16" outside; however, if you're using the TrailRax rack, no measuring is required since the predrilled holes in the rack automatically provide the correct spacing. Also, one of the crossbars is not needed for the tent mounts so you can leave it off if you want to save a couple pounds. I added a set of their billet reinforcement braces which were easy to install and appear to add significant strength for a tiny weight penalty and modest cost. Installing the tent and mounting brackets was pretty tedious! It was helpful to have a comprehensive set of tools, including ratcheting box wrenches. If I had it to do over again, I would NOT get the full set of GP factor offset mounts, but only get the two little front ones, which I believe are called "Lopro Alucab Mounts". Instead I would just use the four stainless steel mounts that come with the tent. There are two reasons for this: First, to save a few $$$. Second, and more importantly, the offset of the rear-most GP mounts do not allow you to install the bracket for the Alu-Cab rain fly in the proper position. Yes, you can still mount it, but functionality is compromised. It was frustrating to have to remove one of those GP mounts from my completed assembly and replace it with the Alu-Cab part. Really, the only "secret sauce" in this kit is the set of HD tent mounts, which are very high quality. The Alu-Cab load bars are available elsewhere, but the price for the set of 3 from TrailRax was reasonable. I just completed this installation yesterday and, after getting past the aforementioned hiccups, I'm extremely satisfied with the result. The tent is rock-solid. We'll be taking it on a short trip this weekend and are very much looking forward to trying it out!
NO DROP INS... And there are no accessories on your page for bolts/tiedowns for the rails... what do we use?
New orders from Early August forward get drop in cut outs on the crossmembers! It is a recent update, for past customers, there will be an upgrade program that is optional. We also have tie down point accessories, the Smiley. If not, you can use the side panels of the rack in the slots to tie down your gear! it is designed for it. Slots are also used as a mounting point for hardware should you need to use them. Then of course our crossmembers offer a great solution to mount even more hardware.
Which storage system/box do you have installed on the roofrack?
This Bronco is using ROAM adventure co cases with their Quick release system. Works great with our rack!
I have the same setup, how did you mount the roof rack and awning very curious as it seems hard to clamp the tent to the rail since it’s so low profile
can't wait to get and install mine!
getting a headache
$450.00…,And drilling the hard top…that’s a big pass for me
I'm sorry but this system, though it appears functional is ridiculously overpriced. Get serious people! Buying stuff at these prices is what keeps us all in the hole. Don't buy and they will have to lower the prices or go out of business.
Hey! Thanks for your comment. Sorry that the price is what it is. We are having a big sale right now for 4th of July that ends on the 10th. Feel free to hop on that! Also feel free to reach out to us at info@trailrax.com or call in and we can tell you more about our products and maybe you will start to see the value that others see in our products and how it supports their hobbies of Offroading and recreational activities. Hope you had a great 4th of July weekend!
Can other 40” light bars be mounted to the roof rack other than heretic?
Great question! There are plenty more out there. We currently have Baja Designs S8 which is most comparable to size in the Heretic. We will say the S8 pushes more light intensity as well, basically brighter. Baja S8s are in stock at our site.
With these work with the rhinorack pioneer platform? so instead of drilling more holes to the hard top. I can attached the upper bracket to the platform?
Please show how you are mounting the Roam quick release mounts to the rack…The lip is giving me issues since it is not flush.
You will want to either use drop in Tnuts or drop the crossbar you want to use to slide hardware in, then remount the crossbar.
This would probably look great on my 2 door especially since I need to carry more fuel than everyone due to our fuel tanks shrinking.
What’s the dimensions of the rack? Blows my mind that information isn’t on your website
Im getting one. Just need 1500 bucks
I'm confused. Aren't your crossbars 2" wide? If so, the 14" and 16" measurements are impossible - it would have to be a 4" difference to allow for the size of 2 crossbars. Do the tent mounts work with the cross bars mounted using the standard "fixed" holes in the side rails, or do some of them need to be moved? If I used this setup, could I simply unbolt the tent mounts (yes, I know it's a total of 36 bolts) from the rack's crossbars and lift the whole assembly off when the tent isn't needed? It looks like those bolts would be relatively easily accessible with a ratcheting box wrench, or hopefully a low-profile battery powered ratchet wrench. (Maybe use the 1.5" tent mounts to give more clearance for a power tool?)
Yes the Crossbars are 2" wide. The measurements are not impossible. They work in TrailRax's "fixed" holes, Other brands may differ, hence us giving you the dimensions needed for space between each crossbar. You could unbolt the tent mounts but we recommend unbolting from the Alucab load bar off our tent mounts and leaving the tent mounts on. It is less bolts and nuts to loosen and remove.
@@trailrax Thanks for the prompt reply. I see your point about fewer bolts, but the bolts you mention seem like they would be difficult, if not impossible, to reach once the whole thing is assembled, or am I missing something? Regarding the impossibility of the measurements, if you did not misspeak when you said '14" from inside edge to inside edge and 16" From outside edge to outside edge' then those measurements are, in fact, impossible. Think of it this way: If the two crossbars were against each other (i.e., 0" between inside edges), the outside edges would be 4" apart (2 x 2" crossbars). If you increase the inside measurement to 14" as stated in the video, the outside edge distance would increase by the same amount and be 18" apart, NOT 16"
Just installed mine. Y'all should probably update the video with a slide that points the viewer to the new part numbers. Other than that, it was easy in install and looks fantastic!
Thanks for your comment! Our team is aware of this hiccup, we are working on filming this and putting a video up that reflects the recent switch to part numbers instead of arrows which in turn has been easier for customers and that is most important to us.
One day...
I was following the video but the parts identifiers have changed. I had to download the instructions from the website to finish. No arrows on my parts
Hey! Thanks for letting us know, we apologize for this! We have recently made a change (as you can tell) to best benefit our customers. We are actually in the process of refilming this install video to reflect that recent change in part IDs.
Can you take all roof panels off including the back without having to remove the rack?
You can take the front 2 and the middle panel off with the Rack on. You cannot run the rack with the rear most, main portion of the hardtop.
1st Time Users, BEWARE: The rubber shock pads actually scratched my hard top roof ! I mounted the PakRax correctly and after my first time off roading with the PakRax mounted to my Jeep, I came home, unmounted the rax from my Jeep, ... and noticed the rubber disc pads had rubbed the side of my hard-top roof , leaving permanant circular wear marks ! Now, I use some auto protection tape to protect my newly damged roof to prevent further damage.....BEWARE !
Hey Steve, we would like to dive into this situation more with you. Would you email info@trailrax.com and we can dig into finding out how and why this occurred to your vehicle?
Wait, when i put the foam on the bracket like you did, it kept sliding. Why dont you take the wax paper off so it can stick?
We did not apply the foam to the clamp for filming reasons. But you are supposed to remove the wax paper so that you as the end user can stick it to the clamp and install it for your Bronco.
Nice, does this work with a rhino rack?
The rack looks great and works well, but you guys have to get more competitive on price. You've bought off every TH-cam overland influencer with a free rack, and then are passing the cost off on your real consumer base.
Hey! Thank you for your comment and thank you for your interest in our products! We are proud to say that our Rack is actually one of the lower priced racks on the market. Our rack starting at $1449.99 (4 Door Rack) / $1199.99 (2 Door Rack) sits actually in the lower 1/3 of major brands on the market making roof racks for the Ford Bronco. (Comparing 4 Door Racks) Currently starting costs sit as low as $1209.99 and as high as a $2499.99. While yes we offer an optional add on of our Pak Rax, at a price of $500 additional on top of the cost of the Bronco TRMR Rack, it would be unfair to factor in an accessory to your cost analysis vs other options on the market. We feel like we have definitely accomplished this competitive price. While you may think we have "bought off" every youtuber, they understand they need the best product for their content creation and we offer exactly that. We work closely with influencers and content creators but by no means just "bought off" every youtuber. We would love to talk to you more on this and go into detail if you would like, feel free to give us a call or email.
The mounting plate are screwed on the inner holes of the base plate, however in the video at 5min 20sec, this appears to be bolted to the outside holes (like the JK). Question, does it matter, can the mounting plate be installed on the outside on JL ?
Hey! Great question, You can mount the vertical arms in the JK position if you would like, we have found it is best to mount to the inner holes but either one works because of the adjustability the JL offers with the rain gutters. Let us know if you have anymore questions!
@@trailrax does it rattle if the arms are on the outside holes due to the lack of support?
It should not rattle. @@eilshgo

Just installed on my Jeep JL. Once you watch the video they're very easy to install. They came packed to withstand a nuclear bomb. Once installed they are very strong.
I just received mine and missing 8 washers, but that's if i have to add the washers to the lower rubber washers as stated in the video. So do i have to add the 8 washers? I also noticed at the end of the video that you installed the plates further away with the rotopax

@trailrax thanks for the quick response 👍 but I don't think I will need to add the washers as I have no clearance issues and noticed if I add the washers, I will barely have any thread to bite But if it's required, I have a lot of the same size washers, but I just wanted to confirm if it's actually required.
@@khalilismyname If you have no clearance issues, you are totally fine then! the additional washers would essentially be there for customers who do need them to fill gaps.

Hello, what size are the hex nuts that are used to bolt the rack on to the roof in the accessory ready mount on top of the windshield? Are those 10mm?
The nuts that are used to bolt the rack to the accessory ready points on the bronco are factory spec 10mm metric nuts. The rest of the rack uses 1/4-20 imperial hardware.
Can I use this with Adventure Lo-Pro Mod Rack System? I have the back-to-front truss and I just want to make sure that the mounting points of this product is accessible. Thanks.
The mounting brackets DON'T HAVE THE ARROWS as of 1/21/24. No updated instructions... If you're going to change a crucial part why not update the instructions??
Hey! Thanks for bringing this to our attention! We had made a slight change in part identifiers and we are actually in the process of making a new install video now. For now, please refer to the written instructions located on our site under instructions. This will give you the most up to date version of our instructions for your install. Thanks!
How are the Roam cargo boxes mounted on the rack? I have a Trailrax on my bronco and am looking to add some cargo boxes. I like the Roam but not sure how to mount it. Do you have any information on that? I don’t see any cargo boxes on the Trailrax accessory page
Found the Trailrax accessory page and looks like Roam + rugged mount is listed there so I assume the carriage bolts can slide into the cross bars.
@@TIMPORTER100 That is exactly right. The Rugged mounts or their new cheaper mounts will work on our rack with their carriage bolts provided. The provided carriage bolts should be 1/4-20 carriage bolts, if not, that is the spec of hardware needed to mount the rugged case mount to our TRMR Rack line up.
How much weight can these support? Can I do multiple gas/ water jugs?
All that information can be found on our website, TrailRax.com!
I really want to buy this rack but I'm not a fan of the curved wind deflector in the front. PLEASE make a straight one!
We did make a straight wind deflector in our early designs of prototyping and testing and we came to the conclusion that it created too much wind noise although it looked good. We decided in our design that we would rather give a customer a functional focused product over something that just looked good. Reach out to info@trailrax.com if you have anymore questions!
