First Autumn Cold Front, Vermont, 9/1/2024
The first real autumn cold front of the season swept into Vermont on Sept 1, 2024. On a day that reached summer-like mid 80s, the front battled against sunshine of summer, eventually overtaking St. Albans Bay, and dropping temperatures into the 60s. Beautiful sun and dark clouds marked the transition.

Now that summer is winding down, here's a peaceful, pretty journey through my St. Albans, Vermont perennial gardens through this summer. Lots of humidity, heat, and rain punished the gardens, but I still got a lot of them to thrive, as you can see here.
Another Canadian Wildfire Vermont Smoke Attack

Wildfires in Alberta, Canada, took a long route across northern parts of that nation, then southward into New England on August 15-16, 2024. The result was another round of haze and smog that partly obscured the Green Mountains of Vermont and prompted air quality alerts. The smoke was sometimes oddly scenic, especially around Fairfield Swamp in northwest Vermont.

A cluster of thunderstorms drifted south from Quebec into northwestern Vermont on the evening of August 14, 2024. While a couple spots reported quarter sized hail and winds over 40 mph, at my place in St. Albans, Vermont, it was an oddly relaxing summer storm. I slo-mo'd some of the quick lightning bolts so you can see the details of them.
Debby Blasts Vermont With Damaging Winds/Heavy Rain 8/9/24

The remnants of Tropical Storm Debby swept over northwestern Vermont on Aug. 9, 2024. It started as a drenching rain. Then in the evening, the wind increased and increased, and as you see in the video, things go from bad to worse. The end of the vid is the immediate aftermath of a metal roof blowing off a St. Albans, Vermont house.

In Vermont, on the last day of a long spell of Florida-like heat and humidity in Vermont, thunderstorms quickly bubbled and faded and kept repeating the process, as you see in this video. I missed the severe storms that popped up in parts of the state. But get the Florida feel of the day in this vid.

The distribution of rainfall in Vermont lately has been extremely weird. In northeastern Vermont, more than eight inches of rain on 7/30/24 caused catastrophic flooding. Where I am in St. Albans, Vermont storms kept breaking apart as they approached, yielding a whopping 0.20 inches. Thunderstorms in northwest Vermont on July 17, 2024 had some classic SLC features - SLC standing for Scary Looking Clouds. At least one of the storms looked sort of tornadic, but the storm was harmless, not rotating. Just rich in moisture and downpours. Still fun to watch, then I drove through one of the storms, then watched as a new storm tried to form, but failed.

For the second July 11 in a row, Vermonters were picking up the pieces after a devastating flood. These are scenes around the towns of Richmond, Hinesburg and Huntington on the morning after the nighttime flash flood that killed two people in the state.
Dramatic Clouds Mark Storms At Beginning Of Vermont Flood

The first couple of thunderstorms to roll into Vermont on July 10, 2024 had some pretty dramatic clouds. Cloud motion is especially interesting around 1:10-1:20 into video. We were under a tornado watch at the time. A couple of very fast lightning bolt captures, too. Storms continued well into the night, resulting in lots of flash flooding, results of which will be in video to be uploaded soon.

Amid Florida-like summer humidity, tropical showers and storms bloomed in Vermont in the afternoon and evening of July 6, 2024. First storm in video viewed from Colchester, sharp line between sunshine and downpours. Second storm viewed over Lake Champlain from South Hero. Not seen a town centre like this before. More like Europd than America. Shops, usual in malls, not on roads. Street rather wide so would be inconvenient to cross to visit different shops.

When it snows like this, is there someone you can pay to plow your driveway?
my honest estimate AS A SOUTH FLORIDIAN WHO HAS DEALT WITH GUSTS OF UP TO 160 MPH (very experienced), 50 mph. This is above 40 but not quite 60, i think this is 50 mph in this video. Dont get me wrong, it could have been stronger off camera, but i think the video shows maximum wind gusts of 50 mph through those big ass pine trees. Maybe 60.

TH-cam makes current videos like this one hard to find and promotes videos from 5+ years ago instead. Hey YT ^^. When I search 'gravity waves' I want the most current content listed first I.e any videos uploaded today, sorted by popularity, then any videos uploaded this week, sorted by popularity, then any videos uploaded this month, etc. Current videos and events should take precedence and we shouldn't have to jump through filter hoops just to sort things in mostly chronological order :) For instance this video is almost two weeks old and it has only one like, mine - why? Because you cannot even find this video without doing date filter. Old news takes precedence over new - which makes literally no sense ^^. Thx Matt for posting this - just this morning we had massive gravity waves over Tacoma, WA.
